  • We propose a modified learning process for generalized neural network using a learning algorithm by Liu et al. (2001). We consider the effect of initial weights, training results and learning errors using a modified learning process. We employ an incremental training procedure where training patterns are learned systematically. Our algorithm starts with a single training pattern and a single hidden layer neuron. During the course of neural network training, we try to escape from the local minimum by using a weight scaling technique. We allow the network to grow by adding a hidden layer neuron only after several consecutive failed attempts to escape from a local minimum. Our optimization procedure tends to make the network reach the error tolerance with no or little training after the addition of a hidden layer neuron. Simulation results with suitable initial weights indicate that the present constructive algorithm can obtain neural networks very close to minimal structures and that convergence to a solution in neural network training can be guaranteed. We tested these algorithms extensively with small training sets.

  • Reliability analysis with response surface method (RSM) was peformed for a offshore wind turbine (OWT) monopile, which is one of mostly used foundations under 25m seawater depth in the world. The behaviors of a real OWT monopile installed into sandy soils subjected to offshore environmental loads such as wind and wave were analysed using reliability design program (HSRBD) developed in KIOST. Sensitivity analysis of design variables for a OWT monopile with 6m diameter showed that the larger in pile diameter the smaller in probability of failure ($P_f$) of a horizontal deflection and a rotational angle at a pile top, but at a greater than 7m of pile diameter, the reduction rate of $P_f$ was almost constant. It is a necessary that appropriate local design criteria should be designated as soon as possible because there were significant differences on horizontal deflections; $P_f$ was 60% at a minimum criteria 15mm deflection, however, 1.5% $P_f$ when 60mm deflection using 1% of pile diameter from local design criterion standard. Finally, friction angle of sand among many design variables was found most influential design factor in OWT monopile design, and a sensitivity analysis is found an important process to understand which design variables can mostly reduce $P_f$ with a optimum design for maintaining OWT stability.

  • In this study, the effects of the inelastic shear behavior of beam-column joint on the response of RC OMRF are evaluated in the inelastic time history analysis. For an example, a 5-story structure for site class SB and seismic design category C was designed in accordance with KBC2009. Bending moment-curvature relationship for beam and column was evaluated using fiber model and bending moment-rotation relationship for beam-column joint was calculated using simple and unified joint shear behavior model and moment equilibrium relationship. The hysteretic behavior was simulated using three-parameter model suggested in IDARC program. The inelastic time history analysis with PGA for return period of 2400 years showed that the model with inelastic beam-column joint yielded smaller maximum base shear force but nearly equivalent maximum roof displacement and maximum story drift as those obtained from analysis using rigid joint. The maximum story drift satisfied the criteria of KBC2009. Therefore, the inelastic shear behavior of beam-column joint could be neglected in the structural design.

  • FAB CAD MS/MS(Fast Atom Bombardment Collision Activated Dissociation Mass Spectrometry/Mass Spectrometry) was used to study different degree of bond stability according to the linkage positions of alkali cationized $(Na^+, Li^+, K^+, NH_4^+)$ stereoisomeric and synthetic oligosaccharides. The alkali metal cations were much more stable, requiring over -40 eV of collision energy vs. only -10 eV for the protonated forms. Of the cations, the potassium cationized trisaccharides were more stable than the others. They would not yield fragment ions under the conditions of collision available in triple quadrupole. Other cationized species exhibited decreasing stability in the series $Nap^+>Li^+>NH_4^+$ using 0.8 mTorr argon pressure in the collision cell. Metal cations of the oligosaccharides maintained charge principally on the amino sugar as shown by shift of all the fragment ions containing the amino sugar. The reason for the higher stability of the metal cationized form is the formation of crown ether-like bond around metal cations, N-acetyl group on GlcNAc and oxygens on fucose moiety. Depending on the metal sizes and the conformation of linkage-isomeric region, cationized species gave linkage dependent fragment patterns and exhibited stability in the series 1-6 > 1-4 > 1-3 linkage.

  • This study aim is occur in brain CT cause of beam hardening effect and reducing method, We will scan Bone opaque bead phantom on variation of image on the influence factor with equipment called 'Samatom Senation 16' with following listed herein : tube voltage, tube current, slice thickness, gantry angle, base line which affect beam-hardening effect. After that we are going to start Quantitative Analysis resulted in previous scanning and Qualitative Assessment with CT image sheet evaluation. result of quantitative analysis 140kVp $31.56{\pm}2.89HU$ on tube voltage, 150mA $-3.87{\pm}0.12HU$ on tube current, 3mm on slice thickness, and $13.31{\pm}1.03HU$ IOML on gantry angle which was the least beam-hardening effect. Like Qualitative Analysis, we went through Qualitative Assessment and most of valuers got a result of 140kVp on tube voltage, 150mA on tube current, 3mm on slice thickness. As before valuers evaluated gantry angle that scanned image from IOML or OML was the least beam-hardening effect occured. There are meaningful differences when we compare all theses factors statistically(P<0.05). therefore We consider that Minimizing artifact that caused by beam-hardening effect can provide better quality of image to deciphers and patients. if we rise tube voltage in permissible dose limit, set tube current in a limit that does not effect to image quality, use slice thickness too thin enough to harm resolution, use IOML or OML on gantry angle.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the antioxidant activities of 70% ethanol extracts from different parts (root, stem, and leaf) of Epimedium koreanum Nakai. Ethanol extracts from the three parts of Epimedium koreanum Nakai were assessed for total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity, 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) radical scavenging activity, myoglobin protective ratio, and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP). Root part showed the highest total phenolic content ($2.468{\pm}0.017mg$ chlorogenic acid equivalent/g) and total flavonoid content ($2.071{\pm}0.002mg$ quercetin equivalent/g). Leaf part showed the strongest radical scavenging activities (DPPH radical; 80%, myoglobin protective ratio; 90% and FRAP; 98.7% at 20 mg/mL). Root part showed the highest ABTS radical scavenging at 1 mg/mL. Therefore, the results of the antioxidant activity test were correlated with total phenolic and flavonoid content values. Thus, Epimedium koreanum Nakai has great potential as a natural source for human health.

  • This study was performed to compare the fatigue limit of stainless steel wires and Fiber-reinforced composites (FRC) under conditions of permitting physiologic tooth movement. and to evaluate the clinical value of FRCs which was used to reinforce the anchorage unit. The stainless steel wire groups were divided into round and rectangular wire groups. The FRC groups were divided into uni-directional and woven groups, with resin coating and without resin coating in the Proximal area After the number of cycles to failure of each of the 6 groups were measured within the $5{\times}10^5\;cycle$ fatigue limit simulating the orthodontic treatment period. the fatigue limit of each group was compared with each other The findings of this study were as follows. In stainless steel wires, the fatigue limit of rectangular wires were higher than that of round wires. But there was no statistically significant difference (p>0.05). In FRCs with resin coating and without resin coating in the interproximal area, the fatigue limit of uni-directional type was higher than that of the woven type (p<0.05). In uni-directional and woven type FRCs, the fatigue limit of FRC with resin coating in the interproximal area was higher thar that of FRC without resin coating (P<0.05) As the FRCs and stainless steel wires did not fracture until the $5{\times}10^5\;cycle$ fatigue limit which clinically is useful. it is sufficient to use FRC and stainless steel wire for reinforcing anchorage. When esthetics is important and the attachment of additional devices are necessary. it seems sufficient to use FRC as anchorage reinforcement.

  • In this study the risk integrated erosion and seepage failure factor and combined risk of the levee embankment were assessed. For the research of the reliability, the risk assessment of erosion, seepage and both of them combined for the levee embankment were conducted using discharge curve and stage hydrograph generated by stochastic rainfall variation method during typhoon and monsoon season. The risk of erosion was evaluated using tractive force and the seepage analysis was performed by selecting representative cross sections for SEEP/W model analysis. And the probability of seepage failure was assessed with MFOSM analysis using critical hydraulic gradient method. Unlike deterministic analysis method, quantitative risk could be obtained and the characteristics of realistic rainfall variation patterns as well as a variety of factors contributing to levee failure could be reflected in this research. The results of this study show significantly enhanced applicability for the combined risk. As this model can be employed to determine dangerous spots for levee failure and to establish flood insurance linked with flood risk map, it will dramatically contribute to the establishment of both efficient and systematic measures for integrated flood management on a watershed.

  • The Zienkiewicz-Zhu(Z/Z) error estimate is slightly modified for the hierarchical p-refinement, and is then applied to L-shaped plates subjected to bending to demonstrate its effectiveness. An adaptive procedure in finite element analysis is presented by p-refinement of meshes in conjunction with a posteriori error estimator that is based on the superconvergent patch recovery(SPR) technique. The modified Z/Z error estimate p-refinement is different from the conventional approach because the high order shape functions based on integrals of Legendre polynomials are used to interpolate displacements within an element, on the other hand, the same order of basis function based on Pascal's triangle tree is also used to interpolate recovered stresses. The least-square method is used to fit a polynomial to the stresses computed at the sampling points. The strategy of finding a nearly optimal distribution of polynomial degrees on a fixed finite element mesh is discussed such that a particular element has to be refined automatically to obtain an acceptable level of accuracy by increasing p-levels non-uniformly or selectively. It is noted that the error decreases rapidly with an increase in the number of degrees of freedom and the sequences of p-distributions obtained by the proposed error indicator closely follow the optimal trajectory.

  • This study deals with the water qualities of Dalgi mineral spring in Cheongsong district.Water samples which were taken from upper, middle and bottorn spring sites were tested for twenty eight important water quality items including minerals, essential and/or toxic trace elements, and the analytical items to affect the taste of mineral water, seasonally from May 1999 to February 2000 The results obtained wereas follows:Each spring site showed much difference in major items. Bottom spring water showed higher value of Mg and Na than others. Middle spring water showed the highest value in all of the items except Mg and Na. The concentration of Hardness, Fe and Mn in mineral water were over than the normal standard for drinking water, but these items are not specified for the mineral water. As, Cd, $Cr^{6+}$ and Hg were not found and Pb was found ln trace level. All of the items proved nearly constant during the four seasons except water temperature. The contribution of mineral water to the nutrition of human was calculated in order to investigate the health effect of drinking water on the bases of Required Daily Allowance, one liter of water drinking and the mineral concentration of the bottom spring. The percentage of consumable minerals of Ca, Mg, Na, K, Mn,Zn and Fe were 35.05,36.43,5.88∼10.63,0.19∼0.57,21.86∼43.72,0.65, and 95.l respectively. This means Dalgl mineral water is pIenty of iron mineral. The K and O indexes of mineraI water appeared to be good for healthy and delicious water.
