A Study on Children's Searching Behavior Using Internet Search Engines (인터넷 검색엔진을 이용한 어린이들의 정보탐색행태에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, children's internet search engines are becoming the main method to access information. For those engines to function properly, search behavior of children as their searchers should be studied and the findings be applied to design and improve the systems. So an experiment was conducted and 22 3rd-grade elementary school students performed 3 searching tasks through 'Junior Naver' and 'Yahoo!꾸러기' which are representative children's search engines in Korea. Children's searching behavior was analyzed thoroughly through which the problems of children's search engines were diagnosed and recommendations were suggested to improve them.

A Study on Effectiveness of Safety Barriers Restraining Illegal Pedestrian Crossing on Exclusive Median Bus Corridor - Case Study at Sookmyung Women's University Bus Station - (중앙버스전용차로 분리형 횡단보도 무단횡단 억제시설 효과평가 - 숙명여대 입구 중앙버스정류소 횡단보도부를 중심으로 -)

  • It has reported that a median bus-stop island on an exclusive median bus lane (EMBL) has shortened a crossing distance unit, encouraged a pedestrian's illegal crossing, and increased the number of accidents in the area. This study presents (1) the analysis of inappropriate pedestrian crossing patterns collected on exclusive median bus corridors and (2) the estimated performance of safety barriers restraining the occurrence of those. Total 19,649 pedestrian crossing data collected at the 'Sookmyung-university' median bus-stop, and the inappropriate pedestrian crossing patterns among those were grouped in terms of time and space violations. Physical safety barriers restraining illegal pedestrian crossings were considered as an alternative, and its performance in safety was quantified through microscopic simulation with conflict analyses by using surrogate safety assessment model. The findings suggest the number of conflicts reduced be 24.9 percentages compared to the one of the present condition when the physical safety barriers are placed at each of the eight ends of the EMBL pedestrian crossing.

  • In the last decade, various situations were simulated through virtual environment due to rapid improvement of computer capability and technology. Transportation engineering also has adopted the virtual environment facility in order to identify drivers behaviour under various circumstances. This study aims to evaluate driver reactions to the introduction of new ITS interventions at railway crossings (RLX) in driving simulator. Three ITS safety devices were used to figure out how drivers reacted to them. In addition, a survey was conducted to find participants' work load and acceptance of the technology. The ultimate purpose of this paper is to evaluate ITS safety devices in various aspects. Each participant made 3 runs (2 baselines, 1 ITS randomly) for approximately 20 minutes each. The participants answered that current railway crossings did not look safe prior to experiment. They responded that the use of ITS technologies were easy and the technologies were more effective on passive railway crossings.

Searching Behavior of OPAC Users in Children's Libraries (어린이도서관 온라인목록의 탐색행태에 관한 연구)

  • The primary questions addressed by this research are the followings: Have the OPAC interfaces of children's libraries been designed user-friendly; What difficulties have OPAC searchers experienced in using OPACs; How do they perceive the system after searching it; Through the answers of those questions the problems of OPACs for children as searching tools have been grasped and recommendations have been suggested in order to improve the OPAC interfaces. An experiment was conducted and 28 children of grades 4 to 6 performed 5 searching tasks. The searching behavior of OPAC searchers has been analyzed thoroughly. The data of their perceptions about the system was collected through a questionnaire after completing the tasks.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the characteristics of user interface that affect the searching behavior of OPAC users. and then to propose how to design user-friendly interfaces of OPACS. An experiment was conducted on two systems with different interfaces to grasp the effect of user interface to search process and search outcome. A $2\times2$ cross-over design was used for the experiment. Sixty five searchers participated in the experiment. Several statistical techniques such as carry-over effect and system effect of a $2\times2$ cross-over design, $\chi^2$ test, t- test, McNemar test, test of marginal homogeneity through maximum likelihood method, factor analysis, regression analysis, and analysis of variance were applied according to the hypotheses tested and the data analyzed.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of professional tooth cleaning and dental health education on dental clearances and dental health behaviors. This study was designed into two groups, 80 persons of control group for dental health education and 80 persons of experimental group for dental health education and professional tooth cleaning. In order to compare education effects, the researcher applied different educational methods. The parameters were the toothbrushing frequency, the average tooth brushing time, the action rate of toothbrushing after lunch, and the rate of using oral hygiene product. The data were analyzed and the following was the conclusion. The frequency of toothbrushing in two groups increased. Toothbrushing frequency of the experimental group was significantly higher than that of preliminary group and control group. The action rate of toothbrushing after lunch in two groups increased. But the experimental group was significantly higher. The score for dental clearances of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group. The data showed statistically significant difference.

An Investigation for Driving Behavior on the Exit-ramp Terminal in Urban Underground Roads Using a Driving Simulator (주행 시뮬레이터를 활용한 도심 지하도로 유출연결로 접속부 주행행태 분석)

  • Even though driving behaviors in underground roads can be significantly different from ground roads, existing underground roads follow the design guidelines of ground roads. In this context, this study investigates the driving behaviors of the exit-ramp terminal of urban underground roads using a driving simulator. Virtual driving experiments were performed by analyzing scenarios between the underground and ground road environments. The experiments' driving behavior data for each geometry section are compared and validated through a statistical significance test. This test showed that the speed in the underground road environment is relatively low, and the LPM tends to move away from the adjacent tunnel wall. Based on these findings, this study suggests implications and feasible solutions for improving driver's safety in the exit-ramp terminal of the underground roads.

  • 소셜 네트워크 서비스의 하나인 트위터는 팔로우를 통하여 사용자 간의 관계를 맺을 수 있다. 트위터 사용자들은 다양한 팔로워들이 존재한다. 이 팔로워들은 사용자에 대한 호감을 가지고 팔로우 하거나, 맹목적으로 추종하거나, 부정적인 의견을 지니고 사용자의 행동과 글을 관찰하기 위해 팔로우할 수도 있다. 본 논문에서 사용자에게 팔로워들이 어떠한 목적으로 그 사용자를 팔로워의 행태를 분석하는 모델을 제안한다. 대상사용자의 영향력 있는 팔로워를 추출하고, 팔로워의 리트윗 정보, 프로파일, 최신 트윗의 감정분석을 통해 지지자, 중립, 비지지자로 분류한다. 제안 방법의 유효성을 검증하기 위해 트윗 데이터에서 정치인과 언론인 5 명의 팔로워들 중 무작위로 3 만명을 추출하여 실험하였다. 실험 결과 영향력 있는 사용자 추출을 통한 지지 팔로워 추출이 효과적임을 알 수 있다.

  • 2004년 2월~5월까지 대구시 달서구 00동 소재에서 연쇄방화가 발생 되어 수사를 하여 오던 중 우리경찰서에서 다방면으로 수사하여 차량화재 방화범 000를 검거 후 기소한 상태에서 공판이 진행되던 과정에서 변호인 측에서 일회용 라이터로는 차량을 착화 또는 발화의 가능성이 현저히 어렵다는 이유로 피고인의 무혐의를 주장하는 변론이 제기되어 00지방검찰청 000 담당검사의 요청에 의하여 혐의를 입증하고 검증할 수 있는 자료를 제출하고 검증자료가 없으면 본 건의 조건에 따르는 실험을 실시하고 감정결과를 제출하라는 지휘에 의거 우리경찰서 과학수사팀에서는 차량(프라이드)을 1대 구입하여 지방경찰청 과학수사팀, 국립과학수사구소 남부분소 이공학실 화재 연구실과 연계하여 차량화재 실험을 실시하고 실험과정 및 발화 행태와 양상을 구체적으로 증명할 수 있는 자료를 조사연구 분석하고 국립과학수사 연구소에서는 00지방검찰청에 촬영 데이터 원본영상과 촬영물, 그리고 감정서를 작성, 실험 결과를 문서화하여 제출하여 혐의를 입증한 사례 연구로 피의자에 대한 혐의 입증시 상황이나 정황 증거보다 실체적 진실증거의 중요성을 재인식 하고자 한다.
