A Study of a Semantic Web Driven Architecture in Information Retrieval: Developing an Exploratory Discovery Model Using Ontology and Social Tagging (정보검색의 시맨틱웹 지향 설계에 관한 연구 - 온톨로지와 소셜태깅을 활용한 탐험적 발견행위 모델개발을 중심으로 -)

  • It is necessary, due to changes in the information environment, to investigate problems in existing information retrieval systems. Ontologies and social tagging, which are a relatively new means of information organization, enable exploratory discovery of information. These two connect a thought of a user with the thoughts of numerous other people on the Internet. With these connection chains through the interactions, users are foraging information actively and exploratively. Thus, the purpose of this study is, through qualitative research methods, to identify numerous discovery facilitators provided by ontologies and social tagging, and to create an exploratory discovery model based on them. The results show that there are three uppermost categories in which 5, 4 and 4 subcategories are enumerated respectively. The first category, 'Browsing and Monitoring,' has 5 sub categories: Noticing the Needs, Being Aware, Perceiving, Stopping, and Examining a Resource. The second category, Actively Participating, has 4 categories: Constructing Meaning, Social Bookmarking and Tagging, Sharing on Social Networking, Specifying the Original Needs. The third category, Actively Extends Thinking, also has 4 categories: Social Learning, Emerging Fortuitous Discovery, Creative Thinking, Enhancing Problem Solving Abilities. This model could contribute to the design of information systems, which enhance the ability of exploratory discovery.

  • R&D 기획은 연구 개발 전주기에 있어 수행, 평가에 앞서 필수적으로 선행되어야 하는 행위이다. 그렇지만, 아직까지 R&D 기획에서 무엇을 다루어야 하는지에 대한 원칙, 사례만 존재하고 이를 통합 시스템화하지 못하고 있어, 대부분의 연구자들은 논문, 특허, 웹을 포함한 다양한 자원들로부터 정보를 수집, 취합, 분석하는 데 많은 시간을 뺏기고 있는 형편이다. 이 문제를 해결하기 위해서 본 연구 이전에 시맨틱 기술과 텍스트 마이닝 기술을 이용하여 R&D 전략 수립을 지원하고자 InSciTe, InSciTe Advanced 등이 개발되었지만, R&D 기획이라는 궁극적 목적 내에서도 사용자마다 다양한 시나리오들을 분별하여 지원하기에는 어려움이 많았다. 이에 본 연구는 사용자 적응적 가이드 방식을 통합적으로 적용하여 실시간으로 변화하는 사용자 관심을 파악하고, 대표적 시나리오들에 맞추어 사용자가 목적을 효과적으로 달성할 수 있도록 지원하는 데 초점을 맞추고자 한다. 먼저 사용자 적응적 가이드 방식의 R&D 기획 시스템 구축을 위해 필요한 요구 사항들과 이들을 효과적으로 시스템에 반영하기 위한 온톨로지, 웹 서비스 중심의 설계 원칙들을 제시함으로써 R&D 기획뿐만 아니라 타 분야에서도 유연하게 적용할 수 있는 기반을 제공한다.

Development of a Design Ontology and Design Process Visualization Environment for the Analysis and Leaning of Conceptual Design (개념 설계과정의 설계정보가시화를 위한 온톨로지 개발과 환경구현)

  • A prototype design process visualization and guidance system, is being developed. Its purpose is to visualize the design process in more intuitive manner so that one can get an insight to the complicated aspects of the design process. By providing a tangible utility to the design process performed by the expert designers or guided by the system, novice designers will be greatly helped to learn how to approach a certain class of design. Not only as an analysis tool to represent the characteristics of the design process, the system will be useful also for learning design process. A design ontology is being developed to provide the system with a knowledge-base, representing designer's activities associated with various design information during the conceptual design process, and then to be utilized for a computer environment for design analysis and guidance. To develop the design ontology, a conceptual framework of design activity model is proposed, and then the model has been tested and elaborated through investigating the nature of the early conceptual design. A design process representation model is conceptualized based on the ontology, and reflected into the development of the system. This paper presents the development process of the visualization system, modeling of design process ontology, and how the system could be utilized for the analysis and learning of conceptual design methods using computer mediated design support environment.

A Study on the Expansion of Fundamental Categories Based on Thesaurus International Standards (시소러스 국제표준 기반 기본 범주의 확장에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to extend fundamental categories from Clause 11, "facet analysis" in International Standards for thesaurus(ISO 25964-1) by analyzing fundamental categories of Clause 11 and concept and their scope in a thesaurus of Clause 5. For to do this, the fundamental categories were established by adjusting partially and adding mental entities explicitly referencing the highest concepts(YAMATO which is the upper ontology of Mizoguchi, and ISO 2788) and existing fundamental categories(PMEST, FRBR group 3 entities, 13 categories in CRG). Also, established fundamental categories were reorganized and structured based on concreteness/abstraction of PMEST in Ranganathan and independence/dependence of YAMATO in Mizoguchi. And the upper categories were divided into independent and dependent entities. Under these entities 28 criteria are included in the independent ones and 2 criteria in the dependent ones. In the further study, the result of this study can be expected to reuse and refer as controlled vocabulary in the field like classification, taxonomies and thesauri where expected to utilize fundamental categories and as the high-level concept when constructing an ontology for information retrieval.

An Implementation of Lighting Control System using Interpretation of Context Conflict based on Priority (우선순위 기반의 상황충돌 해석 조명제어시스템 구현)

  • The current smart lighting is shaped to offer the lighting environment suitable for current context, after identifying user's action and location through a sensor. The sensor-based context awareness technology just considers a single user, and the studies to interpret many users' various context occurrences and conflicts lack. In existing studies, a fuzzy theory and algorithm including ReBa have been used as the methodology to solve context conflict. The fuzzy theory and algorithm including ReBa just avoid an opportunity of context conflict that may occur by providing services by each area, after the spaces where users are located are classified into many areas. Therefore, they actually cannot be regarded as customized service type that can offer personal preference-based context conflict. This paper proposes a priority-based LED lighting control system interpreting multiple context conflicts, which decides services, based on the granted priority according to context type, when service conflict is faced with, due to simultaneous occurrence of various contexts to many users. This study classifies the residential environment into such five areas as living room, 'bed room, study room, kitchen and bath room, and the contexts that may occur within each area are defined as 20 contexts such as exercising, doing makeup, reading, dining and entering, targeting several users. The proposed system defines various contexts of users using an ontology-based model and gives service of user oriented lighting environment through rule based on standard and context reasoning engine. To solve the issue of various context conflicts among users in the same space and at the same time point, the context in which user concentration is required is set in the highest priority. Also, visual comfort is offered as the best alternative priority in the case of the same priority. In this manner, they are utilized as the criteria for service selection upon conflict occurrence.

Improving Archival Descriptive Standard Based on the Analysis of the Reviews by Archival Communities on RiC-CM Draft (RiC에 대한 기록공동체의 리뷰를 통해 본 기록물 기술표준 개선을 위한 제안)

  • This study suggests an analysis of the reviews provided by international archival professionals on the RiC-CM draft published by ICA EGAD. Some implications for the Korean archival management environment were also suggested. Some professional reviews were accessible through the internet. Italian archival professionals held workshops at various levels for the analysis and discussion of the draft. Duranti, the project director of InterPARES, also gave opinions about the draft in cluding the perspective of digital preservation. In the review of Artefactual, the draft was discussed in terms of system implementation. Reed, the director of Recordkeeping Innovation, also gave a feedback based on the record management experiences in Australia. Some implications can be suggested based on these professional opinions. First, we should try to build a test bed for the adoption of RiC to archival description in the Korean environment. Second, a minimum level of data elements that can secure authenticity and integrity will also be needed. Third and lastly, rich authority data for agents and functions related to archival records and records groups are essential to take full advantage of the standard.
