Prediction of Ship Travel Time in Harbour using 1D-Convolutional Neural Network (1D-CNN을 이용한 항만내 선박 이동시간 예측)

  • VTS operators instruct ships to wait for entry and departure to sail in one-way to prevent ship collision accidents in ports with narrow routes. Currently, the instructions are not based on scientific and statistical data. As a result, there is a significant deviation depending on the individual capability of the VTS operators. Accordingly, this study built a 1d-convolutional neural network model by collecting ship and weather data to predict the exact travel time for ship entry/departure waiting for instructions in the port. It was confirmed that the proposed model was improved by more than 4.5% compared to other ensemble machine learning models. Through this study, it is possible to predict the time required to enter and depart a vessel in various situations, so it is expected that the VTS operators will help provide accurate information to the vessel and determine the waiting order.

  • Decrease in crew performance is frequently cited as a major causal factor in maritime accidents. Although considerable researches on working hours undertaken by seafarers have been conducted through interviews and record analyses, experimental studies on the effects of factors, such as high workload, shift patterns, stress, sleep deprivation, and disturbance on the cognitive performance of mariners have been limited. Other safety-critical transport industries, such as aviation and rail, have developed fatigue management tools to help managements in the work patterns of their operators. Such tools for mariners would assist shipboard crews, marine pilots, and shore managers for planning and improving work schedules. The overall aim of this paper is to determine a fatigue factor that can be applied to human performance data as a part of a software program that calculates total cognitive performance. This program enables us to establish the levels of cognitive performance in a group of marine pilots in order to test a decision-making task based on radar information. This paper addresses one of the factors that may contribute to the determination of various fatigue factors: the effects of different work patterns on the cognitive performance of a marine pilot.

A Study on Navigational Support Services for Improving Navigational Safety of Non-SOLAS Ships (비협약선박의 항해안전 향상을 위한 항해지원서비스에 관한 연구)

  • This study identified necessary navigational support services to prevent accidents through an examination and a survey on the navigation and communication systems of non-SOLAS ships. The functional and operational requirements for the identified navigational support services were discussed accordingly. Among the navigational support services proposed are an Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC) service, a route planning service, an operation monitoring service, and collision prevention support services for ships in coastal areas. To facilitate the identified navigational support services, ship navigation system, shore supporting centre and maritime communication network were discussed as a digital infrastructure. The operational methode for the digital infrastructure were discussed in the service scenarios for ships carrying dangerous cargo, large ships over 200 meters in length and high speed passenger ships over 15 knots in speed. This study will facilitate the development of policies for the improvement of ship operation management in Korean coastal waters and will contribute to improving the navigational safety of non-SOLAS ships.

  • Aids to Navigation (AtoN) is one of the marine traffic safety facilities that promotes the safety of maritime traffic and enhance ship's operational efficiency. However, functional failure of AtoN due to ship's collision or bad weather conditions leads to inconvenience or navigational risk to various users such as the ship operators. For insstance, the largest container port in Korea, Busan Port has experienced a total of 400 AtoN accidents in the past 12 years (2006-2017).Therefore, an average of 20.6 days of recovery time is required, which increases the maritime safety anxiety for AtoN users. is the objective of this study was to present the quantitative support of the users for the prevention of AtoN accidents and the improvement of the feasibility of implementing more efficient management in Korea. A survey was conducted on the users of Busan port areas to investigate general perception of AtoN in general and the accidents that have happened, and to estimate the economic value of navigational risk reduction by implementing effective AtoN management measure. Using the representative non-market valuation method for environmental or public goods known as contingent valuation method (CVM), the economic value granted to users for the AtoN services in Busan port was estimated to at least 16 billion won. Therefore, these finding could be used by AtoN managers and/or policy makers as a valuable data to identify the users' need of various AtoN services including Busan Port and to establish and implement more efficient management plan.

  • 해상에서 선박을 운항하는 항해사의 피로도 (Fatigue) 는 안전항해와 매우 밀접한 관계를 가지고 있으며 당직근무 중에 피로가 누적되어 업무수행능력이 저하되면 선박의 충돌 및 좌초 둥과 같은 매우 위험하고 중대한 해양사고를 유발할 가능성이 높아지게 된다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 항해사의 근무환경, 피로유발요인 및 피로증세 등에 대하여 조사하였고, 항해경험자를 대상으로 정신적 육체적인 작업부하도에 대한 피로도 평가관련 설문조사를 실시하고 그 결과를 분석하였다. 그리고 이와 같은 피로도 조사 및 설문조사 분석결과를 바탕으로 항해사의 피로도 평가항목을 선정하고 이를 토대로 항해사의 업무수행능력을 평가하기 위한 피로도 평가모델을 제시하였다.

  • 해상에서의 선박충돌사고 예방에 대한 연구가 IMO를 중심으로 꾸준히 지속되어 왔다. 이러한 항해장비 중에서 AIS는 중요한 역할을 수행하여 왔다. AIS 장비를 통하여 전송되는 정보에는 정적 정보와 동적 정보 및 항해 관련 정보로 구분할 수 있다. 정적 정보에는 MMSI, 선명, 호출부호, IMO번호, 선박길이 및 선폭, 선종 등 선박이 이동해도 변하지 않는 정보로 구성되고, 동적 정보에는 선박의 위치, 시간, 대지침로, 대지속력, 선수방위, 항행상태, ROT(Rate of Turn) 등 선박이 이동함에 따라 변화하는 정보로 구성된다. 그리고 항해 관련 정보에는 흘수, 위험화물, 목적지, ETA 등이 해당된다. 하지만, 이러한 정보들에 대한 활용도의 우선순위 및 정보의 적정성 등에 대해서는 아직까지 조사된 것이 없는 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 AIS 장비의 실 사용자를 대상으로 한 설문조사 및 분석을 통하여 AIS 송수신 정보들에 대한 활용도의 우선순위 및 정보의 적정성 등에 대해 검토해보고 필요시 개선 필요성을 제시하며 아울러 AIS 장비의 개선점도 검토해 보고자 한다.

  • This paper deals with the development of an expert system modeling by constructing a knowledge-based system of the dive recovery for anticrash on the ground or sea during the task of fighter aircraft. In an IBM PC / XT computer, a prototype dive recovery expert system is constructed using mu LISP-86 programming language, and is interconnected to the SAM SUNG RM-501 robot arm to test and simulate this model. The knowledge base of this model is composed of the dive recovery charts and the V-N envelope charts of F-4 D Phantom fighter aircraft. It is shown that the prototype expert system woks well and the feasibility of practical realization is valid.

  • 해상에서의 선박충돌사고 예방에 대한 연구가 IMO를 중심으로 꾸준히 지속되어 왔다. 이러한 항해장비 중에서 AIS는 중요한 역할을 수행하여 왔다. AIS 장비를 통하여 전송되는 정보에는 정적 정보와 동적 정보 및 항해 관련 정보로 구분할 수 있다. 정적 정보에는 MMSI, 선명, 호출부호, IMO번호, 선박길이 및 선폭, 선종 등 선박이 이동해도 변하지 않는 정보로 구성되고, 동적 정보에는 선박의 위치, 시간, 대지침로, 대지속력, 선수방위, 항행상태, ROT(Rate of Turn) 등 선박이 이동함에 따라 변화하는 정보로 구성된다. 그리고 항해 관련 정보에는 흘수, 위험화물, 목적지, ETA 등이 해당된다. 하지만, 이러한 정보들에 대한 활용도의 우선순위 및 정보의 적정성 등에 대해서는 아직까지 조사된 것이 없는 실정이다. 따라서 AIS 송수신 정보 상황을 분석해 관련 사항을 검토 할 수 있는 방안을 제시 및 향후 연구 수행 사항을 언급하고자 한다

A Study on the Development of the Position Detection System of Small Vessels for Collision Avoidance (충돌 회피를 위한 소형 선박의 위치 검출 시스템 개발에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, a developed device for detecting target's location and avoiding collision is proposed. Velocity and acceleration model of target are derived to estimate target's information, i.e. position, velocity and acceleration considering process and measurement noise. Kalman filtering method applied to the estimation process and its results was confirmed by simulation. The distance measurements system using laser sensor for moving target system is also developed to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. Experiments to get information of moving target with velocity and acceleration model was executed. The data with filtering and without filtering was compared by experiments. Discontinuous measured data was changed to smooth and continuous data by Kalman filtering. It is confirmed that desired data was obtained by applying proposed scheme. UI for measuring and monitoring the target data is developed and visual and auditory alarm function is attached on the system Finally, position estimation system of moving target with good performance is achieved by low price equipments.
