Fabrication of Nanodot Arrays Via Pulsed Laser Deposition Technique Using (PS-b-PMMA) Diblock Copolymer and Anodic Aluminum Oxide Templates (고분자 공중합체와 알루미늄 양극 산화막 템플레이트를 이용한 나노점 배열 형성)

  • We have fabricated nanodot arrays by using phase separated (PS- b- PMMA) diblock copolymer film and anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membrane as templates with hexagonal arrays of cylindrical microdomains perpendicular to the substrate. Pulsed laser deposition technique was used to deposit various kinds of materials including Ag, Ni, ZnO, Si:Er, and Co/Pt onto Si substrates. The size and separation of nanodots correspond to those of the templates used, The density of nanodots was estimated to be $6{\times}10^{11}/cm^2$ and $1{\times}10^{10}/cm^2$ when the diblock copolymer and AAO were used, respectively. In particular, the optical properties of ZnO and Si: Er nanodot arrays were investigated and the strong photoluminescence at 380 nm and $1.54{\mu}m$ was observed from ZnO and Si:Er nanodot arrays, respectively.

Synthesis of Poly(styrene-co-alkyl methacylate)s for Pour Point Depressants of Diesel containing Biodiesel (바이오디젤을 함유한 경유용 저온유동성 향상제의 합성: 폴리(스티렌-co-알킬 메타크릴레이트))

  • A variety of techniques has been employed in order to reduce problems caused by the crystallization of paraffin and saturated fatty acid esters in diesel fuel containing biodiesels. Methacrylate copolymers are known as additives which reduce the pour point and cold filtering plugging point (CFPP) of diesel fuels. This paper describes the synthesis, characterization and low temperature properties, having as an initial step the synthesis of the alkyl methacrylate monomers by esterification of methacrylic acid with C12, C18, and C22 fatty alcohols. The copolymerization of these monomers with styrene was then performed, with molar ratios of 30:70, 50:50 and 70:30 for styrene:alkyl methacrylate. All copolymers were characterized by $^1H-NMR$, FT-IR, and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The poly(styrene-co-alkyl methacrylate)s (PStmSMAn) leads to a large reduction in the pour point and CFPP of poly(styrene-co-alkyl methacrylate) in ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD) and BD5 with treated 100~5000 ppm of poly(styrene-co-alkyl methacrylate). BD5 fuel containing 5000 ppm of the copolymer (PSt82SMA18) showed a $25^{\circ}C$ and $9^{\circ}C$ reduction in their pour points and CFPP, respectively.

  • Increasing harmful effects of climate change, such as its effect on water scarcity, has led to a focus on developing effective water purification methods to obtain pure water. Additionally, rising levels of water pollution is increasing levels of environmental degradation, calling for sources of water treatment to remove contaminants. To purify water, osmotic processes across a semipermeable membrane can take place, and recent studies are showing that incorporating nanoparticles, including carbon quantum dots (CQDs), graphene carbon dots (GQDs), and graphene oxide quantum dots (GOQDs) are making thin film composite (TFC) membranes more effective by increasing water flux while maintaining similar levels of salt rejection, increasing the hydrophilicity of the membrane surface, showing bactericidal properties, exhibiting antifouling properties to prevent accumulation of bacteria or other microorganisms from reducing the effectiveness of the membrane, and more. In the review, the synthesis process, applications, functionality, properties, and the role of several types of quantum dots are discussed in the composite membrane for water purification.

  • Polyolefin is one of the most important commodity polymers having excellent physical properties and cost competitiveness, which has continuously broadened their market in response to a heavy demand from industry. However, the lack of polarity in polyolefin has limited its applications, especially where interactions with other materials are important. In view of the above, the incorporation of polar functional groups in polyolefin has been widely attempted. Especially, the preparations of segmented modified polyolefin copolymers, such as block and graft copolymers have been extensively investigated, since the loss of the original properties of polyolefin can be minimized while the polar segments can endow interactions with other materials. Living radical polymerization (LRP) method can be one of the most attractive synthetic tools for the preparation of the modified polyolefin block or graft copolymers. In this review, progress on the preparation of the polyolefin based block or graft copolymers through LRP technique is briefly summarized.

  • 지금까지 우리는 환상 단량체(cyclic monomer)를 이용한 macromonomer의 다양한 합성 방법론에 대해 고찰해 왔다. 리빙 개환 중합(iving ring-opening polymerization)이 좁은 분자량 분포 및 예견할 수 있는 well-defined 구조를 갖는 macromonomer들을 합성할 수 있는 최상의 방법임은 주지의 사실이다. 또한 이렇게 합성된 macromonomer들을 이용한 graft 공중합체의 합성은 이미 언급한 바와 같이 다방면에 사용되고 있다. 다음으로 중요한 점은 많은 과학자들이 과학적 용어(scientific term)의 사용에 있어서 사용자들에게 많은 혼돈을 주고 있다는 사실이다. 예를들면 macromonomer는 Macromer$^{(R)}$ 혹은 macromolecular monomer등과 같은 의미이지만 어느 한가지로 통일되지 못하고 사용되고 있는 실정이다. 덧붙이자면 macromonomer는 기능화된 고분자(functionalized polymer) 혹은 넓은 의미의 'telechelic polymer'의 범주에 속한다. 본래 telechelic polymer란 분자 말단에 두개의 반응성기를 갖는 고분자나 oligomer를 일컫는 말로서 기능성 고분자(functionalized polymer)의 범주에 속한다. 이러한 사실들을 고려해 볼때 macromonomer는 중합이 일어날 수 있는 반응성 기를 가진 기능성 고분자 혹은 telechelic 고분자이다. 또한 많은 사람들이 macroinitiator와의 상이점을 구별치 못하는 경우가 있다. 물론 macroinitiator는 보통 block 공중합체를 제조하는데 이용되고 있는 반면 macromonomer는 graft 공중합체 합성에 사용되는 고분자 또는 oligomer이다.

Experimental Investigation of Two Parallel Plane Jets (두 개의 평행한 평면 제트의 실험적 연구)

  • The characteristics of flow on two parallel plane jets was experimentally investigated. The two nozzles each with an aspect ratio of 20 were separated by 6 nozzle widths. Reynolds number based on nozzle width was set to 5,000 by nozzle exit velocity. The particle image velocimetry and pressure transducer were employed to measure turbulent velocity components and mean static pressure, respectively. In case of unventilated parallel plane jets, it was shown that a recirculation zone with sub-atmospheric static pressure was bounded by the inner shear layers of the individual jets and the nozzles plated. There was no recirculation zone in the ventilated parallel plane jets. It was found that the spanwise turbulent intensities of unventilated jets were higher than those of ventilated jets because of the interaction of jets, and the streamwise turbulent intensities of ventilated jets were higher than those of unventilated jets because of the effect of entrainment.

  • 스펙트럼천이 신형전환로 (이하 신형전환로)는 표준 가압수형원자로의 로심과 로심주변을 변형한 원자로이다. 신형전환로와 기존 가압수형원자로와의 다른 점은 핵연료집합체설계와 원자로내부구조인데, 신형전환로 로심은 기존의 가압수형원자로와 유사한 구조의 핵연료집합체로 구성되어 있으나 주요한 차이는 사각형이 아니라 육각형으로 되어 있다는 점이다.

  • Miscibility of poly(4-vinylpyridine) (P4VP) blends with poly(vinyl acetate-co-vinyl alcohol) (VAc-VAL copolymers) was investigated as a function of comonomer composition of VAc-VAL copolymers. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermo-optical microscopic (TOM) analysis confirmed that P4VP is miscible with VAc-VAL copolymers containing more than 30 mole% VAL. Fourier transform inflated (FT-IR) spectroscopic analysis revealed that the strong intermolecular hydrongen bonding interaction between the vinylpyridine and VAL hydroxyl group was formed. Theoretical phase diagram was constructed by the calculation using the Association model, a thermodynamic model for hydrogen-bonded polymer blend systems developed by Coleman et al. The calculated theoretical binodal phase diagrams were in good agreement with the experimentally determined cloud point curves.

Thermoresponsive Graft Copolymers of Hyaluronic Acid (히알루론산의 온도감응성 그래프트 공중합체)

  • Stimuli-responsive polymers have been investigated as the materials playing the critical roles in various applications. Thermoresponsive graft copolymers, poly (N-isopropylacrylamide)-g-hyaluronic acid (PNIPAAm-g-HA) and elastin-like peptide-g-hyaluronic acid (ELP-g-HA), were synthesized by coupling carboxylic polymers (PNIPAAm-COOH or ELP) to biocompatible HA through amide linkages. Thermoresponsive behavior was observed in both the copolymers, and the results of turbidity measurement were consistent with the results of rheological examination. Among the two copolymers, the ELP graft copolymer shows less cooperative LCST transition than the PNIPAAm case. As the content of graft chains of PNIPAAm and ELP increases, viscosity increases, and the increase was larger in PNIPAAm case at a graft content. These results shows us that the introduction of grafts provides thermosensitivity to biocompatible HA, whose characteristics can be engineered.
