  • This paper describes the results of an experimental study on the new type of encased composite beams that use deep deck plates, which could reduce the story height of buildings by controlling the bottom flange of steel beams. The profiled steel beam was thus developed. It was advantageous to the long span of the buildings. Seven full-scale specimens were constructed, and simply supported bending tests were conducted on the encased composite beams with different steel plate thicknesses, with and without shear studs, reinforcing bars, and web openings. The test results showed that the encased composite beams that were developed in this study had sufficient composite action without additional shear connectors due to their inherent shear-bond effects between the steel beams and concrete.

  • To take advantage of reduced on-site construction periods and minimize traffic impacts various types of steel grid composite deck have been developed since 1930's. Modular prefabricated unfilled grid decks permit a long-distance transportation and construction under unfavorable condition, for example, in mountainous regions due to its comparatively light-weighter structure than fully filled grid deck. In this study bending tests of unfilled grid decks for the deck member of various kinds of infrastructure are carried out, bending strength and behaviour of composite action are experimentally evaluated. In this bending test, design variables are considered, such as type of shear connection between steel grid and concrete slab, spacing between cross bars and thickness of concrete slab. Through test results bending strength and behaviour of composite action are evaluated, reference data for proper type of shear connection and other details of the deck, such as spacing between cross bars, are obtained.

  • This paper provides the results of a study on the structural behavior of the composite slabs using the metal form deck plate. Cold-formed steel deck sections are used in many composite floor slab applications wherein the steel deck serves not only as the form for the concrete during construction but also as the principal tensile reinforcement for the bottom fiber of the composite slab. A total of 16 specimens are tested to clarify the composite action between the concrete and metal deck plate and to find the method to increase the composite effect, whether or not non-slip bars are used. The test results are summarized for the shear-bond capacities, deformation capacities, and failure modes for the specimens.

  • The application of metal deck floor system is increasing gradually and especially for office buildings. In the cases of large parking structures and storage structures, the construction period and the cost can be reduced. Also the steel deck system can prevent the crack of a floor and reduce the retrofit expenses. However, the floor should stand for the repeated truck load which is relatively heavier repeated loading. The mechanical behavior of a slab under repeated load is also different from the static loading state. An evaluation of a structural capacity was performed in this study through the dynamic capacity evaluation experiment for an application of a composite deck floor system as a parking structure slab. The period of repeated loadings were set up as 25years and 960,000 times monotone cyclic loads were applied at the center of the specimens. The tension crack propagation and patterns at the center of specimens were examined.

  • In a composite beam, a shear connector is installed to resist the horizontal shear on an interface between steel beams and reinforced concrete slabs. The steel-wire-integrated deck plate slab is commonly used at the wide section beam. Then vertical bars are installed at the upper wire of the ends of the steel truss girder to ensure safety during the construction. The new type of shear connector is made of deformed bar and steel plates, and must function as vertical bars but must have higher shear capacity. This paper examines the ways to develop and utilize this new shear connector. From the push-out experiments, a shear connector made of a continuous deformed bar and steel plate showed a higher shear capacity and ductility than a ${\phi}16$ stud connector, and functioned as a vertical bar.

  • H-shaped beams, which are constructed between columns, are used widely as slaves in steel structures. The bending moments that occur on both ends of an H-shaped beam, however, are about twice the bending moment that occurs at the center of the H-shaped beam. Because such beam is designed with maximum bending moment, it is deeper and has smaller spaces. To improve these features, if both ends of an H-shaped beam that have maximum bending moments are merely reinforced, the beams could be designed by the bending moment at the center of the H-shaped beam. To analyze the structural performance of the proposed end-reinforced beams (eco-girders). Four specimens were prepared with the following parameters: end-reinforced steel plate, reinforced bars, and reinforced studs and experimental tests of the specimens were performed.

  • The TEC-Beam system is a composite beam consisting of structural tee, precast concrete, and cast-in-site reinforced concrete slab. The preliminary test of the proposed system was performed for simple beams, showing good behavior. However, for the field application of the system. TEC-Beam - RC column connection was required to produce a mechanism that transfers the force occurring in the lower part of the TEC-Beam. Thus, this study developed a connection mechanism that transfers the force occurring in the lower part of the TEC-Beam. Thus, this study developed a connection wherein the section of the TEC-Beam was enlarged and the lower part reinforced. Two setups of the proposed system were experimentally investigated. using the anchorage length of reinforcement., i.e., length of the increased section, as test parameter. It could be concluded from the result that the proposed system shows good structural behavior, with potential applicability in the field.

  • With the current rapid changes in population and technology, the long-lastig housing certification system is a means of prolonging the physical and functional lifespan of a building. The certification requires differentiation between the structure and infill elements to allow for variability and ease of repairs. This works well with prefabricated houses so this study investigated the possibility of applying the long-lastig housing certification requirements to apartment construction using off-site construction (OSC) methods focused on the installation of bathrooms (plumbing and toilet) that differ from the traditional wet method. This study examined three different sized floor plans at 22 m2, 46 m2, and a combined one resulting in 69 m2. The larger 69 m2 plan utilized a removeable non-load bearing wall to increase flexibility in the layout of the floorplan. The apartments are constructed of steel reinforced concrete composite columns on a 9 m × 10.5 m grid with integrated slabs. The exterior and interior infill walls are all non-load bearing with some containing plumbing. This separation of the structure and infill walls can help meet some of the criteria in the long-lastig housing certification, particularly with the ease of repairs. Technologies that facilitate the replacement of infill elements that contain plumbing and other building services can benefit the nation by reducing carbon emissions and therefore tax incentives should be introduced to increase the adoption of the proposed construction methods.
