Current limit state design method for encased composite columns contains irrational and uncertain design equations in defining section and material properties of composite members. Through investigating previous research used in formulating the design equation, this paper explores the irrationality and uncertainty such as 1) transformation of yield stress and elastic modulus for composite section, 2) an equation influencing buckling strength in terms of area rather than moment of inertia, and 3) selection of larger radius of gyration between steel and concrete sections. Improving the design equations this paper proposes two design methods which can be directly used in practical design.

By producing pre-engineered modular system in the factory, It is enable to expedite construction and can be distinguished from two types by the method resisting load. One is the open-sided modular system composed of beams and columns. The other is enclosed modular system composed of panels and studs. Of the modular systems, the open-sided modular system buildings the connection between modules are difficult due to closed member sections, and the overall strength is reduced as a result of local buckling. In this study, in order to solve these problems, a modular system with folded steel members filled with concrete are proposed. The capacity spectrum method presented in ATC 40 is used for seismic performance assessment of the proposed model structure and the structure with conventional steel members. The analysis results show that at the performance point of each model the number and rotation of plastic hinge formed in the proposed modular system are smaller than those in the conventional system. Based on this observation it is concluded that the proposed system with composite sections has superior seismic capacity compared with conventional system.

This study investigates the optimum section properties of newly developed steel-concrete composite beam. For that purpose we developed computer program calculating section properties. The suggested new beam section highly contribute to save inter-story height and reduce construction duration and cost compared with conventional steel works such as H-beam and column + RC slab system. But the section shape have different section modulus with upper and lower fiber because of the unsymmetric cross section. Therefore the parametric study on thickness-ratio of top and bottom flange plate is needed. In this paper the change of neutral axis and section modulus for thickness-ratio of up and down flage plate is analysed and discussed.
The purpose of this study were evaluated to flexural and bond performance by sectional area and geometry change through bond and flexural test of a structural synthetic fiber. Six deformed structural synthetic fibers were investigated and pullout and flexural test was conducted. Included parameters is three different geometries of fiber and two of fiber sectional area. The test result shows that the cycles and amplitude of structural synthetic fiber increased, pullout load and pullout fracture energy decreased and flexural strength increased, if sectional area is same. The sectional area increased, pullout load and pullout fracture energy increased and flexural strength decreased, if cycles and amplitude of structural synthetic fiber is same. Based on test results, structural performance of the concrete could know that is influence by pullout performance of fiber as well as various factor (fiber number, material properties etc).
On the result of load-bearing fire test to confirm the fire resistance of a composit beam, if the composit beam has lower fire resistance than required standard, it can be improved by section change. But if there are many types of section change, it takes much time and cost owing to conducting many tests. On this study, it was confirmed which part of the asymmetric H-section composit beam affected most on fire resistance by heat-transfer analysis. Then, we checked the tendency of improving fire resistance depend on section change by heat-transfer and non-linear structural analysis and suggested a changed section having 1-hour fire resistance.

The temperature development of a structural element is dependent on section factor, which is estimated as a ratio of the fire-exposed perimeter to the cross-section area. Hence, with the higher section factor, the faster temperature development of the section os observed. Composite beam member, partially embedded asymmetry H beam, has a good fire resistance to the cross-section. The study was intended to conduct with change with section factor. The experimental result of section type which the Slim Beam Floor is bottom flange reinforced method.

This research is to develop the steel-concrete composite lining board using section shape steel. This lining board adopts section shape steel, rectangular pipe and H-beam, instead of roll-formed steel member commonly used in other composite lining board. Consequently, it reduces fabrication effort. Efficient section which can reduce the weight of steel of the lining board is made by placing the neutral axis of the section near the lower surface of concrete. Behavior of composite section is improved by adding bolts as shear connector. Static and fatigue tests were conducted to verify the performance of the composite lining board developed. The test results indicate that serviceability as well as safety of the lining board developed is secured with good margin and reduction of steel weight can be made about 27% compared with other composite lining boards.

In this study, the displacement-based design concept, the performance by the existing reinforced concerte column and steel reinforced concrete composite column for SRC purchased the maximum design ground acceleration improvement compared to the performance design. SRC have several advantages such as strength enhancement and high ductility. H-beam or steel tubes were used for embedded elements of the SRC composite columns. SRC cross-section for the P-M diagram and analysis on the nominal bending monent SRC designed for composite columns for disparity estimation is presented to the displacement-based seismic design. Performance improvement of the performance-based design performance targets for the design seismic displacement and design criteria for the direct displacement-based design methods and to improve the seismic performance due to the displacement coefficient method is proposed to design. SRC compared with the RC column designed to improve the performance and displacement ductility ratio displacement results in the performance design results showed significantly improved performance.
