  • Repeated impregnation and carbonization processes were performed to prepare high-density woodceramics using a sawdust board. The physical properties were investigated to confirm morphological and structural changes of one-time and two-time phenolic resin-treated and carbonized woodceramics. As comparing between one-time and two-time carbonized woodceramics, the weight and the density of the two-time carbonized woodceramics decreased with an increase of the amount of impregnated phenolic resin. In addition, when the amount of impregnated phenolic resin was about 40% in these woodceramics, the two-time carbonized woodceramics showed higher weight (23.8%) and density (30.0%) than the one-time treatment.

  • Research investigated the variation of density, weight loss and dimensional decreasing rate, heat conduction rate by the resin impregnation rate and burning temperature of woodceramics, which were formed by impregnation rate of 40~80% and burning temperature of 600~1500℃ with sawdust board impregnated with phenolic resin made from thinned logs of pinus densiflora, Larix kaemferi and pinus koraiensis. As the resin impregnation rate and the burning temperature increased, the density increased, however, as the burning temperature increased to at 1200℃ or more, the density decreased. The more the resin impregnation rate increased, the more the decreasing rate of weight and size decreased; the more the burning temperature increased, the more the decreasing rate of weight and size increased. When the resin impregnation rate was high, the heat conduction (mm/sec) was superior.

  • This study aimed at offering basic data to develop a new use of sawdust and rice husk. Research investigated the variation of density, weight loss and dimensional decreasing rate by the percentage of resin impregnation and carbonization temperature of ceramics, which were formed by the percentage of resin impregnation of 40~80% and carbonization of $600{\sim}1200^{\circ}C$ with board impregnated with phenolic resin made from sawdust and rice husk. The results of this study were as follows:1) As the percentage of resin impregnation increased, the thickness shrinkage and weight loss were decreased; on the other hand, density and modulus of rupture increased. Meanwhile, the carbonization temperature at $1200^{\circ}C$ showed the highest values, as the density was $0.81g/cm^3$ and the bending strength was $77.9kgf/cm^2$ in the percentage of resin impregnation at 70%. 2) As the carbonization temperature grew higher the linear shrinkage, thickness shrinkage and weight loss increased while the density increased until the carbonization temperature of $1000^{\circ}C$; but then decreased slightly at $1200^{\circ}C$.

  • This study was aimed at offering basic data to develop a new use of sawdust and rice husk. The results of this study were as follows: In surface temperature of ceramics by resin impregnation rate, the velocity was great in the early time of heat transfer because the temperature precipitously increased to 10 minutes elapsed. Also, the surface temperature of ceramics manufactured in resin impregnation rate of 60~70% indicated the highest. Heat transfer was fast in terms of the changes in surface temperature of ceramics according to the carbonization temperature, as because the density of ceramics made on condition of the carbonization temperature of $1000^{\circ}C$and $1200^{\circ}C$ was high. Moreover, ceramics maintained heat for a long time because the descent velocity of surface temperature of ceramics was slower than that of heater.

  • For new use development of miscanthus sinensis var. purpurascens, which investigated properties of ceramics made from different carbonization temperature ($600{\sim}1,200^{\circ}C$) and percentage of resin impregnation(30~60%) using a mincanthus board. As the carbonization temperature increased, the density, thickness shrinkage, linear shrinkage, weight loss were increased. As the percentage of resin impregnation increased, the density, linear shrinkage and weight loss were increased. On the other hand, thickness shrinkage decreased.

  • For the purpose of finding new uses for Miscanthus sinensis var. purpurascens, this study first constructed boards with the particles of the plant and impregnated them with phenolic resin at resin impregnation rates of 30 ± 2%, 40 ± 2%, 50 ± 2%, and 60 ± 2%. The impregnated boards were then carbonized at the carbonization temperature of 800℃, after which their density and mechanical properties were examined according to the different resin impregnation rates. The results showed that density, flexural strength performance, Brinell hardness, and compressive strength increased as the resin impregnation rate increased, thus affecting the physical and mechanical properties of the ceramics made of M. sinensis var. purpurascens particles.

  • The change in surface temperature of woodceramics, made from thinned logs of Pinus densiflora, were investigated, by the impregnation ratio and carbonizing temperature. As the surface temperature of silicon rubber heater was going up, that of woodceramics also increase rapidly. In case of heaters surface temperature at 70℃, the surface temperature of woodceramics was 53.9℃ when a sample was the impregnation ratio of 80%, while it was 54.2℃ when a sample was at 1,000℃ in carbonizing temperature, showing the highest. Also, it was found that woodceramics maintained heat for a long time because the descending velocity of their surface temperature was lower than that of the heater.

As the surface temperature of silicon rubber heater was going up, that of woodceramics also increase rapidly. Woodceramics made from under the condition of the rate of resin impregnation 70-80% and burning temperature 800-$1000^{\circ}C$, were higher than that of surface temperature. • This study was carried out to explore a new application of the by-products sawdust, formed during sawing and mandarin peels which are agricultural by-products. The boards were manufactured by mixing the sawdust and mandarin peels at different mixing ratio and density. The boards were then converted to ceramics by various percentage of resin impregnation and at different carbonization temperatures. As the percentage of resin impregnation increased, the weight loss was decreased; on the other hand, density, linear shrinkage and thickness shrinkage increased. As the carbonization temperature increased, the weight loss was increased and linear thickness shrinkage increased to $1000^{\circ}C$ and the subsequent increase was insufficient. As the percentage of mandarin peels addition increased, the weight loss, linear shrinkage and thickness shrinkage was decreased.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the properties of woodceramics made from woody part of Broussonetia Kazinoki at different impregnation ratios of phenolic resin of 40, 50, 60, 70%. The physical and mechanical properties increased with increasing impregnation ratio. The highest mean values of density, bending strength, Brinell hardness and compressive strength were 0.66 g/$cm^3$, 53 kgf/$cm^2$, 187 kgf/$cm^2$, 126 kgf/$cm^2$, respectively. There were close correlations between density and bending strength, Brinell hardness and compressive strength, and between MOE and MOR.
