A study on operational risk management of Low Cost Carriers in Korea (국내 저비용 항공사의 경영위험 관리 연구)

  • This study, for the reinvigoration domestic LCCs (Low Cost Carriers) in Asian air market which is in developing stage now, aims to analyze the management risk through the operation cases of domestic and foreign areas and then to derive a risk management plan to reinforce the competency of domestic LCCs. As for the major potential risk factors for LCCs in Asia-pacific market, the first is the absence of growth strategy. Then, the second is the problems in airline route, the typical problem of subsidiary companies of major air lines. The third is the lack of specialists and professional manpowers. In order to cope with such risk factors, rapid growth should be controlled and competition with parent company by entering to parent company's airline route should also be avoided. At the same time, there should be a comprehensive supporting system to foster specialists and professionals in this industry.

  • There has been a lot of researches on the major motivation of consumer's choice for airlines. Due to the competition in airline industries, most of airlines offer a various level of benefits to customers such as a frequent traveller bonus, a schedule, services in flight including a meal and an entertainment program, a discounted fare and an intangible part of personal service. However, it is very difficult to measure the performance of the customers' benefit and to identify the weight of each factor being considered on the airline choice. In this paper, we focus on the airline choice process for the business travellers. The AHP is applied to evaluate the factors reflecting the business travellers' choice for airlines. This study will be useful to build a marketing plan for the business traveller's market.

선진국 운용성 우수한 항공기 어떻게 개발했나

  • 이 글은 미국인간공학학회 제26차 연례학술대회(1982)에서 소개된 내용으로, 본 논문의 저자들은 F/A-18 항공기 개발사업에 참여한 Lioyrd Hicthcock 박사(미연방 항공국), Stephen C. Merriman(미해군 항공기 개발센타), Julian P. Moore(MDC : 맥도널 더글라스 항공사), Peter Field 미해병대 중령(시험비행조종사)이며, 이들이 미해군 항공기 조종사와 정비사들의 인간공학적 요구사항을 초기설계 개발단계에서부터 시험비행 완료단계까지 약 10년간의 F/A-18 항공기 개발기간 동안에 F/A-18 항공기에 적용한 인간공학계획을 회고하는 내용이다. 세계 초일류 항공기 개발 항공사인 맥도널 더글라스 항공사가 F/A-18 항공기를 개발하며서 어떠한 기술이 부족하여 미해군/해병대의 조종사/정비사들을 각각 수십명씩 핵심 개발팀에 합류시켜 공동 개발하였는가?를 자세히 소개하고 있다.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 항공사 객실승무원의 직무착근도의 세부구성요인인 적합성(fit), 희생성(sacrifice)및 연계성(links)요인이 직무만족, 조직몰입 및 이직의도에 미치는 영향을 실증분석 한 결과, 직무착근도의 세부구성요인인 적합성, 희생성 및 연계성요인 모두가 직무만족과 조직몰입에 강한 긍정적인 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났으나 이직의도에는 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 확인되었다.

  • 지난 4월10일, 오전 10시 56분쯤 러시아 모스크바 서쪽 350km에 위치한 스몰렌스크 군용공항 활주로 부근에 Tu-154 폴란드 정부 전용기가 추락하는 사고가 발생했다. 이 사고로 레흐 카친스키(Kaczynski) 폴란드 대통령 부부를 비롯한 폴란드 정부대표단 88명과 승무원 8명 등 96명의 탑승객 전원이 사망했다. 일단 러시아 정부는 관제탑의 지시를 따르지 않고 무리하게 착륙을 시도한 조종사의 과실로 보고 있으나 정치적으로 민감한 사안이라 정확한 사고원인 규명에는 다소 시간이 소요될 것으로 전망된다. 이번 사고를 통해 항공사고 원인규명을 위한 항공사고 조사에 대해 알아본다.

The Analysis on Promotion factors of Air Cargo Transportation in East-South Area (동남권 항공화물 활성화 요인 분석)

  • This study deals with the terms of three connection factors that promote air cargo transportation in the east-south area: a firm's subjective factors, industrial environment factors, and governmental policy factors. According to the analysis results, a firm's subjective factors (4.48) scored highest of the three promotion factors, followed by industrial environment factors (4.20) and government policy factors (3.88). Therefore, it is important to promote to air cargo transportation in the east-south area a firm's subjective factors (1) to procure concentrated market strategy and real market capacity, (2) to procure speedy satisfaction of customer needs and confidence, (3) to enhance aviation route development, and (4) to enhance business ability of airlines and forwarders. Next, air cargo transportation should be promoted in the east-south area by considering industrial environment factors and government policy factors.

  • 휴즈 항공사는 1050년대에 최초로 공대공 유도 미사일인 팰콘(Falcon)을 개발한이래 30여년 이상 첨단 전자기술분야에 참여하고 있다. 오늘날 휴즈사는 전자분야에서 미국내 가장 큰 방산업체이다. 휴즈사는 현재 유도 미사일, 항공전자, 통신위성, 전자광학, 항공기 레이다, 항공방위 지휘통제 시스템, 산업전자, 모의장비 및 훈련등 광범위한 기술분야에 참여하고 있다. 원래 세계군사장비에 탑재되는 항공전자장비 개발업체로 알려진 휴즈사는 신기술을 민수분야와 산업분야에 적용하였으며, 이에따라 우주시스템, 통신 서비스, 모의장비, 기타 첨단 전자 장비 및 민수용 장비 개발업체로 발전하였다. 지난 몇년동안 휴즈사는 미 국방부 매출액 10위권의 업체로 성장하였다.

International Airfares and Application of Competition Laws (국제항공운임과 국내 경쟁법규의 적용)

  • The International Civil Aviation Convention (Chicago Convention) has been a backbone of international air transport system whereby air transport between States should be based on bilateral agreements, and in particular, international airfares, which are set up through IATA(International Air Transport Association) rate-fixing machinery could be approved by the governments concerned. International airfares are fares for transporting passenger and freight and their conditions between two or more countries. However, since U.S. pursued th deregulation policy in 1978 whereby routes, capacity and fares could be freely determined by airlines, many States have been following so called open-skies agreements. In many cases, aeronautical and competent authorities have been reviewing whether airlines' commercial activities including air fares could possibly conflict with free competition rules envisaged in relevant laws and regulations. As competition among airlines gets intense, airlines often resort to cooperation with other airlines in the forms such as equity exchange, M&A, code-sharing, fares consultation and resource pooling, mainly with a view to effectively use resources available and to avoid monopoly situation resulting from excessive and destructive competition among players. Whereas bearing in mind that application of competition laws is important to secure consumers' interests by preventing airlines's malpractices such as bargaining exorbitant fares, it is also important to comprehensively consider as many factors as possible, from that unilateral measure by governments may bring about retaliatory measures by the governments affected, to that airlines' cooperative practices may rather increase consumers' benefits by lowering air fares.
