지난 80년대에 한국통계학회에서는 정기학술발표회 이외에도 여러 차례의 국제학술회의와 외국학자 초청 세미나 및 연구회와 지회에서의 학술활동이 활발히 진행되었습니다. 이러한 과정에서 우리의 통계이론도 국제수준에 도달하기 위해 한 걸음씩 발전하고 있다고 생각합니다.

통계계산, Statistical Computing, 또는 Numerical Computation for Statistics라고 불리우는 통계의 한 분야는 컴퓨터 산업에 의한 제3의 산업혁명이 일고 있는 현대에서 매우 중요한 위치를 차지하고 있음은 두말 할 것도 없다. 특히 통계학이 컴퓨터가 발전하면서 더욱 더 학문적 발전에 박차를 가하고 있다는 것도 의심할 여지가 없다. 통계가 다루는 데이터는 적은 양으로부터 방대한 양을 다루고 있기 때문에 컴퓨터는 필수불가결한 파트너가 되었다. 1980년 초반에 16비트 컴퓨터가 개발되면서, 통계를 처리하는 장소가 전자계산소로부터 사무실로 옮겨 오기 시작했고, 최근에는 70MIPS이상의 속도를 갖고 있는 탁상용 Workstation이 개발되어 통계학자들의 마음을 설레게 하고 있다. 또한 대량의 데이터를 저장할 수 있는 Laser Compact Disk들이 개발되어 통계분야 및 통계계산분야의 발전에 기대가 더 모아지게 되었다. 그러면 컴퓨터가 발전되고 있는데 왜 통계계산분야의 발전이 필요하며, 현재까지 통계계산분야는 어느 단계까지 와 있으며, 미래를 위한 통계계산분야는 어떻게 변화할 것인지를 한국의 실정에 기초를 두고 논해 보고자 한다.

본 논문에서는 인터넷 상에서 통계 그래픽을 서버에서 처리하는 방법에 대하여 연구하고자 한다. 이 방법은 서버와 통계 패키지와의 인터페이스를 통하여 서버에서 Xlisp-Stat이 생성한 통계 그래픽을 브라우저가 표현할 수 있는 이미지로 변환하여 클라이언트에 전송하는 방법으로서 C언어를 사용하여 CGI 프로그램을 구현하였다.

The farm population survey and the livestock survey are sample surveys related to agriculture. Two new sample designs for these surveys are considered. Shi-Gun(county) estimates in the farm population survey and Shi-Do(county) estimates in the livestock survey can be obtained. Also the sample sizes are reduced. To increase the precision of the estiamtes strarified simple random samples are used and particularly purposive samples are introduced in livestock survey. Lastly the method of management and replacement of samples are investigated for successive occasion survey.

Statistical engineering contains the design of experiments, quality control/management, and reliability engineering. R is a free software environment for statistical computing and graphics that is supported by the R Foundation for Statistical Computing. R package has many functions and libraries for statistical engineering. We can use R package as a useful tool for statistical engineering. This paper shows the applications of R package for statistical engineering and suggests a R Task View for statistical engineering.

통계적 방법론이 실용성(적용성)을 상실할 때 수학과 다른 점이 없을 것이고 방법론이 실용성을 가진 훌륭한 이론이라 할지라도 계산이 불가능하다면 이는 호화로운 자동차를 가지고 있으면서 연료가 없어 운영치 못하는 것과 다를 바가 없겠다. 이제 한국통계학회가 창립 10주년을 맞아 발돋음 단계에 접어들 시점에서 그동안 특히 부진하고 미비했던 전산통계(혹은 계산통계 statistical computing) 분야에 대해 통계인들 사이에 과거, 현재와 그리고 미래의 나아갈 방향에 대해 의견을 교환하게 됨은 뜻깊은 의의가 있다고 하겠다.
