  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze keywords of articles in the Korean Ophthalmic Optics Society to MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) terms. The study hopes to enhance the understanding and usage of MeSH and give fundamental information to the Korean Ophthalmic Optics Society in advance. Methods: A total of 1952 keywords from 409 informative articles published from 2004, Vol 9(1) to 2016, Vol 21(1) were compared with MeSH terms according to the criteria of complete coincidence, incomplete coincidence and complete incoincidence. Results: 439 keywords (22.4%) were completely coincident with MeSH terms, 815 keywords (41.8%) were incompletely coincident with MeSH terms and 693 keywords (35.5%) were completely incoincident with MeSH terms. The most used keyword in MeSH terms is in the order of Myopia, Astigmatism and visual acuity. For the incompletely coincident keywords Refractive error, Soft contact lens, and Phoria were used the most. Finally, the most used keywords in the category of completely incoincident were Accommodative lag and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Conclusions: It is highly recommended that MeSH terms are selected as controlled keywords to increase usage of searced Korean Ophthalmic Optics Society articles in MEDLINE.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the relationship between axial length/corneal radius ratio and refractive error for human eye. Ocular components were measured Baush & Lomb keratometer, Holden-Payor pachometer, and Stoz Compuscan. Refractive error was measured by subjective refraction. The results were as follows; 1) Spherical equivalent refractive error and axial length/corneal radius ratio was very highly correlated with the correlation coefficient for -0.89. 2) Axial length/corneal radius ratio and axial length, vitreous chamber depth were highly correlated that the correlation coefficients were 0.82, 0.80 respectively. 3) Axial length/corneal radius ratio and anterior chamber depth, corneal power, corneal radius, lens power were correlated with the correlation coefficients for 0.57, 0.40, -0.39, -0.35 respectively. 4) There were no significant correlation between axial length/corneal radius ratio and lens thickness, and corneal thickness.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the relationship between ocular components and refractive error for human eye. Ocular components were measured by keratometry, phakometry, and ultrasonography. Refractive error was measured by subjective refraction on 38 subjects aged from 17 to 30. The results were as follows; 1) Refractive error and axial length, vitreous chamber depth, axial length/corneal radius were highly correlated that the correlation coefficients were 0.95, 0.96, 0.95, respectively. 2) Refractive error and corneal radius, corneal power, lens thickness were correlated with the correlation coefficients for 0.60, 0.66, 0.67 respectively. 3) There were no significant correlation between refractive error and corneal thickness.

  • The use of soft contact lenses for myopia correction is increasing in many countries. It is therefore important for contact lens practitioners to be properly educated in fitting these lenses. Before fitting lenses, it is important to consider the factors and procedures related to soft contact lens fitting, indications and contraindications of fitting soft contact lenses. In this article, the functions and activities involved in preliminary, fitting and delivery consultations will be presented.
