  • Li ShangYin (李商隱) was a poet who represented the late Tang period and authored more than 590 poems. In this paper, I have searched for various phonetic and semantic relationships through the attention of scholars' annotation about Li ShangYin (李商隱)'s poetry. As a result, we found 12 types of "examples that explain the phonetic and semantic relationships of poetic words" and five types of "examples that explain the features of poetic words and prosody." Especially, through analysis of "examples that explain the phonetic and semantic relationships of poetic words", it is divided into two types. The first type is that the scholars' annotation about Li ShangYin (李商隱)'s poetry and phonetic and semantic relationships of poetic words are matched, and the second type is that the scholars' annotation about Li ShangYin (李商隱)'s poetry and phonetic and semantic relationships of poetic words are inconsistent. In this study, I applied the theory of level and oblique tones for more detailed analysis of each type.

  • The purpose of this study is to verify whether the concept of time conveys meanings similar to nonverbal communicative elements in foreign language education. This study surveys cultural traits of time from the French cultural education perspective. Anthropologist Edward T. Hall points out that each cultural community has developed a different perception of time and experience, and that time conveys the meaningful message nonverbally similar to the nonverbal elements such as space, gesture, eye movement, and facial expression. I investigated the time experiences of a drinking party in France and in Korea, from a cultural relativistic point of view. The subject of a drinking party was chosen on the ground that a drinking party is highly related to most people's daily lives and it also indicates how they have a relationship with others. I sought a new direction in foreign language cultural education by analyzing how cultural differences between the two communities, especially the relationships between individuals and organisations, ways to separate leisure and labor, and the nonverbal elements, are presented in the two drinking parties.

  • Some dynamical issues about the Tsushima Warm Current (TWC) are reviewed and checked for the remaining unresolved problems, focusing on the formation of the TWC, seasonal variation of its volume transport and its branching in the East Sea. The TWC is a part of the North Pacific (NP) subtropical gyre driven by the NP global wind system. However, the quantitative amount of volume transport is sensitive to friction, basin geometry, barrier effect and so on. Among many causes suggested by many scientists, subpolar winds are found to be most closely related with the seasonal variation of TWC volume transport. However, more studies relating the latter not only to the subpolar winds but also to those including the subtropical winds seem to be required. The branching of the TWC has been known to be due to the western intensification for the East Korean Warm Current (EKWC) and to the bottom trapping for the Nearshore Branch. Since the former hypothesis is problematic in explaining the seasonal variation of the EKWC, other candidate mechanisms may need to be considered.

  • Among the hypotheses regarding the internal process of industrialization, the debates about 'labor-surplus' model have been intensive. The basic idea of this neoclassical theory is that industrial development is brought about by the transfer of the unlimited cheap labor to the modern sector, and thus, under the labor-surplus situation labor-using technologies should be used for industrialization. Fei and Rannis attempted to confirm this theory by applying it to the Japanese economy. The purpose of this paper is to study whether the theory can be applied to Korean economic development. The neoclassical dualistic model which was designed by Kelly and Williamson was utilized. Simulating Korea's major economic variables for the period of 1965-1992 by using computable general equilibrium (CGE) model, we found that there are significant differentials between the simulation and the actual data. It suggests that Korea's economic development has not followed the neoclassical path -- creation of comparative advantage on the basis of market force.

  • is Plato's last great philosophical work. 'Nocturnal Council' is located in the end of this work. Many scholars interpret 'Nocturnal Council' into opposite directions. According to one interpretation, this Council is a kind of an addition to supplement the philosophical elements. So this is Plato's 'after-thought'. But another interpretation is that 'Nocturnal Council' is a climax in Plato's political thought. Plato didn't abandon the theory of Idea in . In this respect, we find a coherence between and . Finally, a vague position of 'Nocturnal Council' in remains an opposite interpretations each other.

  • With the decrease of sequencing price, many national projects that analyzes 0.1 to 1 million people are now in progress. However, large portion of budget of these large projects is dedicated for construction of the cluster system or purchase servers, due to the lack of programs or systems that can handle large amounts of data simultaneously. In this study, we developed NGSOne, a client program that is easy-to-use for even biologists, and performs SNP analysis using hundreds or more of Whole Genome and Whole Exome analysis without construction of their own server or cluster environment. DRAGEN, BWA / GATK, and Isaac / Strelka2, which are representative SNP analysis tools, were selected and DRAGEN showed the best performance in terms of execution time and number of errors. Also, NGSOne can be extended for various analysis tools as well as SNP analysis tools.

  • Korea is striving to establish a research ethics system, but there is still a disagreement as to the level of government involvement in research ethics. Therefore, this study analyzed the formation process of research ethics system in the United States and sought to derive implications for Korea's research ethics policy. The analysis of the present status of the research ethics policy and laws of the United States showed that i) the establishment of regulatory system is done only after the principles of the research ethics or the guideline are presented first in the academic fields; ii) the responsibility for research ethics is to be shared by the federal government and the research institute, and the primary responsibility for research is given to the research institute and the secondary responsibility to the government; iii) the government has imposed a minimum extent of strong regulation on unethical research; and iv) it is necessary to extend the responsibility of unethical research from the individual level to the structural level.

  • In this study, only 2,877 men, 2,614 men (44.6%), and 143 women (2.3%) were selected as the subjects who were over 18 years old in response to the health consciousness of the Korean medical panel data in 2012. Emergency of smokers through medical use and medical expenditure data by smoking. The social costs were estimated through medical expenses according to the number of hospitalization and outpatient medical use. The social cost was calculated by summing the social expenditure on health care costs, insurer (corporation) costs, copayment, non - salary, and productivity costs by adopting the social perspective established by the health economist Rice (1968). The rate of annual emergency medical use by smoking status is 7.5% for smokers per 100 people, 9.8 times for use, and 809,003 won for social expenses. The annual rate of hospitalization per 100,000 population by smoking status was 9.6% for smokers per 100 population, 9 times for use, The social cost is 706,870 won. Annual smoking rate by smoking status was 68.6% for smoking, 9 cases for annual medical use,

  • During the last decades, considerable efforts have been spent for climate studies, in particular to better understand changing climate. In turn, several significant trends in climatic variables have been reported. Explaining such trends is challenging - some of them have been considered contradictory to another. Various hypotheses have also been suggested for general description of changing climate. At this point in time, it would be beneficial to look back and carefully recollect our knowledge about climate change. In this paper, we aim to provide a comprehensive review on our forefront knowledge in this context with focus on the trends in temperature, solar radiation, wind speed, evaporation, and precipitation. Major trends, namely warming, dimming, and stilling, are demonstrated together with evaporation paradox and increasing precipitation variability, using data at Seoul. On the basis of understanding these notions, we suggest four key implications to hydrologists and engineers.

  • This paper reviews how geographers have embraced the information and communication technology and expanded their perspectives from real space to virtual space. Information and communication geography research on the wired internet infrastructure began in the late 1990s, but the tradition has not been succeeded for the wireless internet technology. While the relationship-expansion, reproduction, and constraint-between real and virtual spaces have been studied by virtual geography scholars, we need more empirical research to reveal to what extent the two spaces impact to each other. To empirically investigate the physicality of the virtual, it will be useful to combine information and communication geography and virtual geography. However, it should be noted that empirical studies in the subfields can be criticized as being data- or technological deterministic.
