Affecting Factors on the Living Satisfaction Degree in University Dormitory's Service: Focusing on the Foreign Students of "G" University (대학교 기숙사 생활 만족도에 영향을 미치는 요인: G대학 외국인 학생을 중심으로)

  • Government and many universities have been trying to get the more international students. Foreign students in university are increasing remarkably in Korea. So these authorities have to consider their service competency for new foreign student's living satisfaction. In this paper, we described about the living satisfaction degree on the university dormitory's service in Korea. After reviewing and summarizing the related literatures, our hypotheses are established which the satisfaction be affected by some service factors such as facility, foods, and noise factors in university dormitory's environments. The 99 Chinese students living in G-university dormitory responded to our study. Empirical analysis was performed among a university in Sungnam city named as G-university by using questionnaires sheets. Analysis results are show that satisfaction degree on the university dormitory's service is affected significantly by facility and foods service factors respectively. However noise factor was not the significant variable.

A survey of foodservice satisfaction and menu preference of high school boarding students in Jeju (제주지역 고등학생의 기숙사급식 만족도 및 급식메뉴 기호도 조사)

  • Purpose: This study analyzed the foodservice satisfaction and menu preference of 506 high school boarding students in Jeju surveyed from July 2-30, 2012 with the aim of providing basic data for improving the quality of boarding food-service management. Methods: The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, t-test, and Pearson's correlation coefficients, using the SPSS Win program (version 12.0). Results: Regarding satisfaction with dormitory foodservice, the satisfaction scores for service and hygiene were 3.46 (out of 5 scales), whereas the score for menu quality was 3.26 points. In terms of satisfaction by meal, dinner showed the highest score, at 3.70 (out of 5 scales). The satisfaction scores for breakfast were significantly higher in girls (3.36) than boys (2.93). Regarding intake of meals provided, dinner showed the highest score, at 3.96 (out of 5 scales), whereas breakfast showed the lowest score, at 3.63 points. Intake of lunch and dinner was significantly higher in boys (4.12, 4.17, respectively) than girls (3.72, 3.76, respectively). Regarding the requirements of subjects for dormitory foodservice, 43.4% of subjects selected improvement of food taste and 36.6% of girls chose menu diversity. In terms of menu preferences for main dishes, the students preferred noodles (4.06) and one-dish cooked rice (3.92) to cooked rice (3.66). The subjects preferred beef rib soup (4.10) and Kimchi stew (3.99) in soups and stews. With regard to the menu preferences for side dishes, steamed foods showed the highest score, at 3.95 (out of 5 scales), whereas seasoned foods showed the lowest score, at 2.89 points. The students preferred beef, pork, and chicken to fish and vegetables. The students preferred dessert the most with fruit juices (4.52). Bread and rice cake were more favored by girls, showing significant differences between boys and girls (p < 0.05, p < 0.01, respectively). Conclusion: Development of a systematic nutrition education program that can encourage practice of proper eating habits is needed. In addition improvement of the quality of boarding school meals through the service of various menus is needed.

  • Campus dormitories function as residence halls, which are quarters or entire buildings for residents to conveniently sleep, eat, and study in. And these functions lead us to refer to dormitories as quarters providing residence, food, and an academic atmosphere. Yet, of these functions, the restaurant service acts on dormitory applicants' and their parents' choice of dormitories as strongly as the others do. It is not optional for the residents but compulsory. All residents are required to eat at the restaurants attached to their dormitories. Therefore, when most of the dormitory applicants and their parents look for their favorite dormitories, they won't miss looking into how good the restaurant service is. Considering this tendency, this research, which takes samples of residents as subjects of investigation, aims to survey the service quality of the dormitory restaurants and to find how to enhance the service quality. The result, which is measured and analyzed on the basis of statistical methods, indicates that the responsiveness and empathy to the restaurant service are statistically the significant factors for dormitory applicants and their parents in choosing their favorite dormitories.

  • The university dormitory have various functions and large floating population so in the occurrence of fire, there could be heavy casualties. Also, when university dormitory is located far from fire station, it is difficult to fire brigade arrives on Golden Time. Therefore, university dormitory need response capabilities for fire by itself. This study conducted a simulation experiment on those residing in K University dormitory in Gangwon-do, where site proximity is unfavorable, to observe evacuation characteristics of the occupants. As a result, evacuation is delayed due to a lack of evacuation routes and administrator, some students lack of fire awareness. Also fire brigade didn't arrive on Golden Time. Therefore, to resolve problems it is proposed that a student fire volunteer department.

  • Today the use of RFID is extended in medical. circulation market, manufacture, security field, etc. Besides, the book-lending and the attendance management system are on an increasing trend in the use of RFID The developed dormitory management system is composed of a support program, a room management program, a manager program, and a mobile program etc.. In the support program a student(or a manager) can see his(or all member's) entrance and exit history. The room management program decides whether a student can enter the dormitory or not and manages the use of the power after or inquiring a RFID's input tag information into database server. The manager program is able to input and modify a room state and the fixtures information in the room required to operate the room management program, to set up and retrieve a student's entrance and exit information and a room state information. The mobile program enables a manager to check student's identity whether he is in or out, and the manager can know the personal information of being out in detail.

  • With the rapid increase in supplying and applying of mobile devices major student services in colleges are provided in mobile device-based ones. In this paper we describe a design and implementation of a dormitory works supporting service system based on mobile web to efficiently assist dormitory business and provide student convenient services especially for dormitory type public schools and colleges requiring a strict student management. The proposed system, first, improves the effectiveness of work processing, such as roll call, sleep out handling, in the aspect of business management. Second students satisfaction level is increased as giving them access under Web by providing mobile web environment. We operated the proposed system over a college dormitory living around 250 students for a semester and evaluated its usefulness by conducting a questionnaire survey.

  • This study focuses on the mediating effects of the interpersonal problems in the relationship between depression and smartphone addiction of college student living in a dormitory. The subject group was consist of students living in a dormitory among the college students in K city. The final 1,016 questionnaires were used as research data. The data analysis used correlation analysis, regression analysis, and Sobel test. The results showed depression, interpersonal problems and smartphone addiction were significantly correlated, and depression had a direct effect on smartphone addiction. In other words, the higher the level of depression, the higher the level of smartphone addiction of college students. Interpersonal problems was partially mediated between depression and smartphone addiction. Therefore, in order to decrease the level of college student's depression and smartphone addiction, it is necessary to develop and implement a program or counseling that can handle interpersonal problems as one of the strategies that can decrease the level of smartphone addiction. Discussed the use of research results and future research.

Food Habits and Nutrition Knowledge of College Students Residing in the Dormitory in Ulsan Area (울산지역 기숙사 거주 대학생의 식생활 습관과 영양지식)

  • This study has been carried out to obtain information regarding to the food habits including health-related behaviors, the nutrition knowledge and the satisfaction on the dormitory food service. The subjects of this study were 758 college students (580 male and 178 female) residing in the dormitory in Ulsan. The data were obtained through questionnaire and interview, and were analyzed using the SPSS package program. the results of this study are as follows: The average age of the subjects was $20.7\pm2.3$ years old. The average height and weight of male were $175.2\pm5.0\;cm\;and\;69.4\pm9.6\;kg$, respectively. Those of female were $162.6\pm4.1\;cm\;and\;51.8\pm5.9\;kg$, respectively. The BMI value of male was $22.6\pm0.1$ which ranged within normal level, but that of female was $19.6\pm0.2$ which ranged underweight level. In the case of food habits, $26.0\%$ of total subjects always skipped a meal (especially breakfast). The main reasons for skipping meals were no time to eat, no appetite, and weight control. Most of subjects ($69.3\%$) have usually eaten snack after dinner, their most favorite food was noodle (ramen), and the next was pizza. With regard to the health care, there was a significant difference between male and female respect to smoking (p<0.001), drinking (p<0.01) and exercise level (p< 0.001). The mean food habit score of the subjects was $59.9\pm11.1$. Male students had a higher food habit score than female students (male: $60.6\pm10.9$, female: $57.7\pm11.4$), and the group residing longer period had a higher food habit score than the one residing shorter period. Average nutrition knowledge score of subjects was $7.8\pm1.8$. Gender, residing periods, monthly pocket money influenced on the nutrition knowledge score. Female had a higher score than that of male (P<0.001), and the group residing longer period had a higher score than the one residing shorter period (p<0.01), and the group who had more monthly pocket money had a higher score than the one who had less. No significant correlation was found between food habit score and nutrition knowledge score. In the case of dormitory food service, the total subjects showed high satisfaction scores for the sanitation and the atmosphere, while low scores for the menu and the quality of food service. This study may provide basic information on the eating habits and health-related behaviors of college students in dormitory. However, further studies and nutrition counseling are needed to improve food habits and nutrition knowledge.
