  • This study explored the changes in the elementary science teaching expertise of teachers who participated in an in-school professional learning community for elementary science instructional research. Six elementary school teachers from grades 4, 5, and 6 at an 18-class S elementary school in a medium-sized city in Chungcheongbuk-do conducted collaborative instructional research on elementary science lessons as part of an in-school professional learning community, which was held 26 times over 7 months in 2020. During the professional learning community, video and audio recordings of the activities, research lessons, course materials, and professional learning community reflection activities were collected for analysis. The collected data were analyzed using qualitative research methods; data processing, reading, note-taking, description, classification, interpretation, reporting, and visualization; and the instructional professionalism elements were extracted based on the instructional professionalism framework. In the early professional learning community activity stages, the participating teachers first discussed their teaching perspectives, their experiences, and their goals for teaching science, which resulted in a selection of research questions. The teachers then collaboratively designed and implemented research lessons for each grade level, after which lesson reflections were conducted. The teachers' abilities to engage in qualitative reflection on the research questions improved after each reflection iteration. It was found that this professional learning community collaborative lesson study experience positively contributed to teaching expertise development. Based on the study findings, the implications for using professional learning communities to improve elementary teachers' science teaching expertise are given.

  • This study attempted to design a virtual space using ZEP, a metaverse platform, to enable mathematics classes in the metaverse space, to apply it to mathematics classes, and to find out changes in students' affective domain. As a result, students showed positive effects in terms of subject efficacy, subject interest, intrinsic motivation, class satisfaction and participation. In addition, we found the possibility of customized classes for each student level by performing different missions in classroom classes with limited time and space.

Academic Calendar of elementary school as a whole displays a calendar and is managed and operated as a traditional academic calendar management system. Academic Calendar of the existing system configuration and operating primarily to teachers, parents, students, and participation in the sharing of information is inefficient. As a result of openness and sharing of information, the user is at the core of the participating elementary school academic calendar to take advantage of Web 2.0 to design and implement management systems were applied experimentally. School Calendar Web 2.0 tools used to manage the teachers, parents, students, seamless communication and sharing of information available and The school year schedule is repeated almost the same characteristics because it has very great significance of the information has recycled.

The results showed that 'career and occupations' subject learning, career psychological tests, and career experience activities were found to have statistically significant effects on career development competencies. These results in that 'career and occupations' subject learning, career psychological tests, and career experience activities help to enhance career development competency of junior-high school students. The implication of these results were discussed in terms of the importance and the need for school career educational activities, and suggestions for future research are provided.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the current status of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education in schools by asking a variety of questions including "why and how often they implement STEAM education." This study conducted an online survey on 11,526 elementary, middle, and high schools in South Korea, with the response rate being 56.8% (N = 6,473). To highlight key findings, first, our descriptive analyses suggested that if those that did not respond to the survey were assumed not to have implemented STEAM education, approximately 27.1% (N = 3,127) of all schools in South Korea were believed to have implemented STEAM at best. The highest rate of implementation of STEAM education was found in elementary schools (30.8%), followed by middle (27.4%) and high (17.5%) schools. Second, in contrast with the result for the rate of implementation of STEAM education, high schools showed the highest level of satisfaction. Third, the most important reason for implementing STEAM education within a school was found to be teachers' voluntary efforts or intrinsic motives, followed by support from the provincial office of education. Fourth, the most important reason for not implementing STEAM education was found to be the lack of consensus among teachers. Together, findings highlight the importance of the role of teachers in implementing STEAM education. Offered are policy implications for the better implementation of STEAM education.
