A Study on the Improvement of Filter Bubble Phenomenon by Echo Chamber in Social Media (소셜미디어에서 에코챔버에 의한 필터버블 현상 개선 방안 연구)

  • Due to the recent increase in information encountered on social media, algorithm-based recommendation formats selectively provide information based on user information, which often causes a filter bubble effect by an Echo Chamber. Eco-chamber refers to a phenomenon in which beliefs are amplified or strengthened by communication only in an enclosed system, and filter bubbles refer to a phenomenon in which information providers provide customized information according to users' interests, and users encounter only filtered information. The purpose of this study is to propose a method of efficiently selecting information as a way to improve the filter bubble phenomenon by such an echo chamber. The research progress method analyzed recommended algorithms used on YouTube, Facebook and Amazon. In this study, humanities solutions such as training critical thinking skills of social media users and strengthening objective ethical standards according to self-preservation laws, and technical solutions of model-based cooperative filtering or cross-recommendation methods were presented. As a result, recommended algorithms should continue to supplement technology and develop new techniques, and humanities should make efforts to overcome cognitive dissonance and prevent users from falling into confirmation bias through critical thinking training and political communication education.

A Study of Personalized User Services and Privacy in the Library (도서관의 이용자맞춤형서비스와 프라이버시)

  • This study was conducted on the observation that the filter bubble and privacy violation problems are related to the personalized services provided by libraries. This study discussed whether there is the possibility for invasion of privacy when libraries provide services utilizing state-of-the-art technology, such as location-based services, context aware services, RFID-based services, Cloud Services, and book recommendation services. In addition, this study discussed the following three aspects: whether or not users give up their right to privacy when they provide personal information for online services, whether or not there are discussions about users' privacy in domestic libraries, and what kind of risks the filter bubble problem can cause library users and what are possible solutions. This study represents early-stage research on library privacy in Korea, and can be used as basic data for privacy research.

  • This study is a study on the filter bubble reinforcement phenomenon of SNS recommendation algorithm such as YouTube, which is a characteristic of the Russian-Ukraine war (2022), and the victory or defeat factors of the hybrid war. This war is identified as a hybrid war, and the use of New Media based on the SNS recommendation algorithm is emerging as a factor that determines the outcome of the war beyond political leverage. For this reason, the filter bubble phenomenon goes beyond the dictionary meaning of confirmation bias that limits information exposed to viewers. A YouTube video of Ukrainian President Zelensky encouraging protests in Kyiv garnered 7.02 million views, but Putin's speech only 800,000, which is a evidence that his speech was not exposed to the recommendation algorithm. The war of these SNS recommendation algorithms tends to develop into an algorithm war between the US (YouTube, Twitter, Facebook) and China (TikTok) big tech companies. Influenced by US companies, Ukraine is now able to receive international support, and in Russia, under the influence of Chinese companies, Putin's approval rating is over 80%, resulting in conflicting results. Since this algorithmic empowerment is based on the confirmation bias of public opinion by 'filter bubble', the justification that a new guideline setting for this distortion phenomenon should be presented shortly is drawing attention through this Russia-Ukraine war.

환경관련 특허동향 - 화장실의 중수도 시스템(해성엔지니어링)

  • 본 발명은 화장실의 세면대에서 사용된 세척수 및 하수를 중수도 수질기준에 적합하도록 처리하여 화장실 용수로 재활용하는 화장실의 중수도 시스템에 관한 것이다. 화장실의 중수도 시스템의 구성을 살펴보면, 세면대에서 사용된 세척수 및 하수가 유입되는 반응조와, 상기 반응조로 유입된 세척수 및 하수를 살균 및 소독하는 마이크로버블 오존 발생장치와, 살균 및 소독된 처리수를 정장하는 처리수조와, 상기 처리수조에 저장된 처리수를 화장실 용수로 공급하는 용수공급펌프를 포함한다. 이 중에서 상기 마이크로버블 오존 발생장치는, 외부에서 유입된 공기를 정화하는 에어필터와, 상기 에어필터에서 정화된 공기를 공급하는 에어펌프와, 상기 에어펌프를 통해 유입된 공기에 자외선을 조사하여 오존을 발생시키는 오존발생기와, 상기 오존발생기에서 발생된 오존을 세척수 및 하수에 혼합시키는 기액혼합펌프와 상기 오존과 상기 세척수 및 상기 하수의 혼합 효과를 극대화하기 위한 라인믹서로 구성된다. 이와 같이 구성된 본 발명에 의한 화장실의 중수도 시스템은 상수(上水)의 소비량을 줄이고 하수(下水)의 발생량을 감소시켜 경비절감의 효과를 얻을 수 있고, 지하수의 고갈 및 생활용수의 증가에 따른 물 부족 현상에 대해 능동적으로 대처할 수 있다. 특히, 재활용된 화장실 용수에는 오존이 함유되어 화장실 내의 악취제거, 살균 및 소독효과가 있으며, 외부로 배출되는 세척수 및 하수에 포함된 유지성분을 제거하여 환경오염을 방지할 수 있다.

Cleaning of the Waste Reverse Osmosis Membrane Filters for the Household Water Purifier and Their Performance Enhancement Study (정수기용 역삼투 폐분리막 필터의 세정 및 성능 향상 연구)

  • In this study, the regeneration investigation for waste reverse osmosis membrane filters which were discarded after use for the household water purifiers has been carried out. Sodium hydroxide, sodium bisulfate, and ethylenediamine tetra acetic acid(EDTA). as the chemical cleaning agents were used. And they were in-situ cleaned with the micro-bubble generator as well. The best result was obtained when both 0.1% EDTA and micro-bubbles were used for 30 min cleaning. Thus, when the performance of the brand new RO membrane and restorated RO membrane were compared, the flux, 19.9%, the recovery ratio 45% were enhanced while the salt rejection was reduced for NaCl 100 mg/L solution, in other words, it has been recovered to the original brand new RO membrane filter. Also the removal of pollutants on membrane surface was confirmed in a naked eye through the scanning electron microscopy. Finally, this research has provided the possibility of the re-use of the waste RO membrane filters of household water purifier which were reclaimed or incinerated after use.

An Empirical Study on the Estimate of Rational Real Estate Bubble in Korea (한국 부동산 시장의 합리적 버블 추정에 관한 실증연구)

  • The present study was aimed to estimate the rational bubble by using the state space model and Kalman filter, of the national, capital, non-capital, Gangnam, and Gangbuk regions housing sales price from November 2003 to August 2013, for the whole period, and before and after the global financial crisis. For the whole period, Gangnam marked the highest rational bubble of 25.4%, followed by Gangbuk 21.3%, capital region 20.1%, whole country 18.9%, and non-capital region 14.3%. Prior to the global financial crisis, Gangnam showed 26.7% of bubble, which is approximately 7.4% higher than Gangbuk with 19.3%. On the other hand, after the global financial crisis, the bubble has collapsed a lot with Gangnam 13.2% and Gangbuk 10.7%; however, the non-capital region showed rather an increase of about 15% from 4.2% before the crisis to 9.0% after the crisis. The main cause of this is that the trading price has declined but the rents have risen in the capital region including Gangnam and Gangbuk, while the transaction price has gone up in non-capital region due to various positive signs like the moving of public institutions.

An Analysis of Filter Bubble Phenomenon on YouTube Recommendation Algorithm Using Text Mining (텍스트 마이닝 기법을 이용한 유튜브 추천 알고리즘의 필터버블 현상 분석)

  • This study empirically confirmed 'the political bias of the YouTube recommendation algorithm' and 'the selective exposure of user' to verify the Filter Bubble phenomenon of YouTube. For the experiment, two new YouTube accounts were opened and each account was trained simultaneously in a conservative and a liberal account for a week, and the "Recommended" videos were collected from each account every two days. Subsequently, through the text mining method, the goal of the research was to investigate whether conservative videos are more recommended in a righties account or lefties videos are more recommended in a lefties account. And then, this study examined if users who consumed political news videos via YouTube showed "selective exposure" received selected information according to their political orientation through a survey. As a result of the Text Mining, conservative videos are more recommended in the righties account, and liberal videos are more recommended in the lefties account. Additionally, most of the videos recommended in the righties/lefties account dealt with politically biased topics, and the topics covered in each account showed markedly definitive differences. And about 77% of the respondents showed selective exposure.

  • 고해상도 이미지 센서를 장착한 고가의 모바일 제품들이 확산되면서 중간값 필터에 기반을 둔 잡음 제거 필터의 필요성이 증가하고 있다. 이는 초박형 카메라에 내장된 이미지 센서의 물리적인 수광부 면적이 줄어듦에 따라 이미지 센서의 SNR이 떨어지기 때문이다. 게다가 영상의 해상도가 매우 높기 때문에 잡음제거 필터는 초고속으로 동작해야 한다. 따라서 잡음 제거 필터의 핵심 기능인 중간값 필터는 높은 동작주파수에서도 효과적으로 동작해야 한다. 초고속으로 동작하는 필터를 하드웨어로 구현하려면 입출력 간의 물리적 지연시간을 클럭의 주기 단위로 나누어서, 시분할하여 순차적으로 처리하는 파이프라인 구조를 가져야 한다. 파이프라인 단계는 많은 비용이 소모되는 레지스터로 구현되므로 파이프라인 단계를 줄이는 것이 바람직하다. 본 논문에서는 입력부터 출력까지의 물리적 지연시간이 데이터의 수에 비례하는 기존의 중간값 필터와 달리, 데이터 수의 로그값에 비례하는 중간값 필터의 구조를 제안한다. 제안한 중간값 필터는 서로 다른 값을 가지는 데이터 집합에서의 중간값은 자신보다 큰 원소의 수와, 작은 원소의 수가 같다는 사실을 이용하며, 버블 정렬 구조에 기반을 둔 중간값 필터에 비해서 같은 동작주파수에서의 게이트 수가 25.3% 줄어든다. 중간값 필터는 잡음제거나 위색제거 등에서도 널리 사용되고 있으므로, 제안한 구조의 중간값 필터는 초고속으로 동작하는 이미지 신호 처리기의 효과적인 구현에 적합하다.

Methods Comparison: Enhancing Diversity for Personalized Recommendation with Practical E-Commerce Data

  • A recommender system covers users, searches the items or services which users will like, and let users purchase them. Because recommendations from a recommender system are predictions of users' preferences for the items which they do not purchase yet, it is rarely possible to be drawn a perfect answer. An evaluation has been conducted to determine whether a prediction is right or not. However, it can be lower user's satisfaction if a recommender system focuses on only the preferences, that is caused by a 'filter bubble effect'. The filter bubble effect is an algorithmic bias that skews or limits the information an individual user sees on the recommended list. It is the reason why multiple metrics are required to evaluate recommender systems, and a diversity metrics is mainly used for it. In this paper, we compare three different methods for enhancing diversity for personalized recommendation - bin packing, weighted random choice, greedy re-ranking - with a practical e-commerce data acquired from a fashion shopping mall. Besides, we present the difference between experimental results and F1 scores.

Simple Image-Separation Method for Measuring Two-Phase Flow of Freely Rising Single Bubble (상승하는 단일 버블 이상유동의 PIV 계측을 위한 영상분리기법)

  • A novel two-phase PIV algorithm using a single camera has been proposed, which introduces a method of image-separation into respective phase images, and is applied to freely rising single bubble. Gas bubble, tracer particle and background each have different gray intensity ranges on the same image frame when reflection and dispersion in the phase interface are intrinsically eliminated by optical filters and fluorescent material. Further, the signals of the two phases do not interfere with each other. Gas phase velocities are obtained from the separated bubble image by applying the two-frame PTV. On the other hand, liquid phase velocities are obtained from the tracer particle image by applying the cross-correlation algorithm. Moreover, in order to increase the SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) of the cross-correlation of tracer particle image, image enhancement is employed.
