We investigated the physicochemical properties and volatile flavor compounds in Taiwan Apple Mango (TAM) and Philippines Carabao Mango (PCM). The volatile flavor compounds were extracted using solid-phase microextraction (SPME) and analyzed by GC/MS. TAM and PCM have significantly different chemical composition, except for their crude ash. The moisture and crude fat contents were higher in TAM, whereas the crude protein and carbohydrate contents were higher in PCM. The major free sugars in order of concentration were sucrose, fructose, and glucose. We identified 56 and 59 volatile flavor compounds in TAM and PCM, respectively. Terpenes and their derivatives comprised 94.42% of the volatile flavor compounds in TAM, but only 63.79% of those in PCM. The acidic compound contents were higher in PCM than in TAM. ${\delta}$-3-Carene was the dominant flavor compound in these two mango cultivars. ${\alpha}$-Copaene, ${\alpha}$-guaiene, germacrene D, ${\alpha}$-bulnesene, and ${\gamma}$-gurjunene were found only in TAM, whereas ${\beta}$-myrcene, ${\alpha}$-phellandrene, ${\beta}$-phellandrene, ${\alpha}$-terpinolene, and cis-3-hexenyl butyrate were identified in PCM. Based on the results, we suggest that these compounds might contribute to the distinguishing flavor properties in different varieties of mango.

Based on innovative technologies and new start-up ideas, startups have been actively researched on the entrepreneurship needed to strengthen the organization's capabilities and generate results in the start-up process. This study studied the entrepreneurial orientation on the performance of startups in the Philippines and the financial and non-financial performance of enterprises. This study carried out not only the entrepreneurial orientation to the performance of Filipino startups but also the role of social capital as parameters in the performance of enterprises. The empirical research was completed for 93 Philippine startups and the suitability of the research model was evaluated with a PLS-based structural equation model. The results of the study first confirmed that the enterprise orientation of Philippine startups has a positive impact on both financial and non-financial performance of the enterprises. Second, the entrepreneurial orientation of Philippine startups has been shown to have a positive effect on both the structural, cognitive and relational dimensions of social capital. Third, it was found that the relevant dimensions of social capital mediated both the corporate orientation and the relationship between the financial and non-financial performance of the entity. Entrepreneurial orientation has been confirmed to be directly or indirectly affecting the performance of startups through social capital. These findings reaffirmed that entrepreneurial orientation is still a valid important factor in developing countries as well as in countries such as Korea and the United States. Based on this study, we have identified the need for research from a more integrated perspective, such as the concept of strategic orientation. Finally, practical implications were presented to reflect the findings analyzed.

This paper compares the maritime education of two traditional maritime countries, Korea and the Philippines, specifically, in their maritime transportation education. The subjects of this review focus on Mokpo National Maritime University(MMU) and the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy(PMMA). The paper presents the curricular and training programs of both institutions and shows the differences in the curriculum designs and methodology of delivery as contained in the requirements of Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping 1978, as amended in 1995(STCW 95). It also illustrates the social climate of the two countries and the attitude of maritime community in relation with the maritime programs offered by the institutions towards the quality of the competent maritime graduates.
