Comparison and Optimization of Parallel-Transmission RF Coil Elements for 3.0 T Body MRI (3.0 T MRI를 위한 병렬전송 고주파 코일 구조 비교와 최적화)

  • In high field (> 3 T) MR imaging, the magnetic field inhomogeneity in the target object increases due to the nonuniform electro-magnetic characteristics of the relatively high RF frequency. Especially in the body imaging, the effect causes more serious problems resulting in locally high SAR(Specific Absorption Ratio). In this paper, we propose an optimized parallel-transmission RF coil and show the utility of the coil by FDTD simulations to overcome the unwanted effects. Three types of TX coil elements are tested to maximize the efficiency and their driving patterns(amplitude and phase) optimized to have adequate field homogeneity, proper SAR level, and sufficient field strength. For the proposed coil element of $25cm{\times}8cm$ loop structure with 12 channels for a 3.0 T body coil, the field non-uniformity of more than 70% without optimization was reduced to about 26 % after the optimization of driving patterns. The experimental as well as simulation results show that the proposed parallel driving scheme is clinically useful for (ultra) high field MRI.

A Method for Reducing the Residual Voltage of Hybrid SPD Circuit Using Choke Coil (초크코일을 이용한 SPD 조합회로의 잔류전압 저감기법)

  • Gas Discharge Tubes (GDTs) are widely used as surge protectors for communication applications due to their small internal capacitance. In these days, however, they are mostly used in combined configurations, because the sparkover voltage required to initiate the discharge process in the GDTs and the time taken for arc formation process can be large enough to damage to sensitive circuits. For GDTs with a considerably high initial residual voltage, we should limit the peak voltage using a TVS or filter. We made a hybrid SPD circuits of common-mode type and differential-mode type with the filter using common-mode choke. Also, we applied lightning impulse voltage and ring wave voltage which frequency bandwidth are different each other and verified the characteristics of hybrid SPD circuits according to waveshapes. We describe how the applied SPDs operate in protection process steps with the actual data obtained from the residual voltage measurement at each step. The experiment results show that the surge voltage reduction with the choke coil is more effective in differential-mode circuit than in common-mode circuit.

Properties of MFS capacitors with various gate electrodes using $LiNbO_3$ferroelectric thin film ($LiNbO_3$ 강유전체 박막을 이용한 MFS 커패시터의 게이트 전극 변화에 따른 특성)

  • Metal-ferroelectric-semiconductor(MFS) capacitors by using rapid thermal annealed $LiNbO_3$/Si structures were successfully fabricated and demonstrated nonvolatile memory operations of the MFS capacitors. The C-V characteristics of MFS capacitors showed a hysteresis loop due to the ferroelectric nature of the $LiNbO_3$thin film. The dielectric constant of the $LiNbO_3$film calculated from the capacitance in the accumulation region in the capacitance-voltage(C-V) curve was about 25. The gate leakage current density of MFS capacitor using a platinum electrode showed the least value of $1{\times}10^{-8}\textrm{A/cm}^2$ order at the electric field of 500 kV/cm. The minimum interface trap density around midgap was estimated to be about $10^{11}/cm^2$.eV. The typical measured remnant polarization(2Pr) value was about 1.2 $\mu\textrm{C/cm}^2$, in an applied electric field of $\pm$ 300 kv/cm. The ferroelectric capacitors showed no polarization degradation up to about $10^{10}$ switching cycles when subjected to symmetric bipolar voltage pulse in the 500 kHz.

Electronic Spectroscopy of Protonated Tyr-Ala Dipeptide Ions (Tyr-Ala 펩타이드 이온의 전자전이 분광 연구)

  • Electronic photofragmentation spectrum of protonated tyrosine-alanine dipeptide ions(YAH+) was obtained in the wavenumber region of 34500~36700 cm-1 using a quadrupole ion trap time-of-flight mass spectrometer (QIT-TOFMS). YAH+ ions were produced by electrospray ionization, stored in the ion trap and then irradiated by ultraviolet laser pulses which induced photofragmentation of the ions. The electronic photofragmentation spectrum was obtained by monitoring the photodissociation yields of YAH+ ions as a function of the laser wavelength. The spectrum exhibited two broad peaks which were assigned as S1 and S2 by theoretical calculations using a time-dependent density functional method. The broad widths of the peaks in the spectrum were explained by the overlaps of the peaks originated from various conformers of YAH+ ions which were present in the gas phase at room temperature and also by the contributions of the hot bands.

Fatigue Characteristics of PLZT(x/30/70) Thin Films with Various La Concentrations (La 농도에 따른 PLZT(x/30/70) 박막의 피로 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The effects of La concentration in PLZT (z/30/70) thin film prepared by sol-gel method are investigated for the NVFRAM application. As the La concentration increases, the dielectric constants at 10 kHz increase from 450 to 600, while the loss tangent and the leakage current density at 100 kV/cm decrease from 0.075 to 0.025 and from $5.83{\times}10^{-7}\;to\;1.38{\times}10^{-7}\;A/cm^2,$ respectively. In the results of hysteresis loops measured at 175 kV/cm, the remanent polarization and the coercive field decrease from 20.8 to $10.5{\mu}C/cm^2$ and from 54.48 to 32.12 kV/cm, respectively, with the increase of La concentration from 0 to $10mol\%.$ After applying for $10^9$ cycles of square pulses with ${\pm}5V$ height, the remanent polarization of the PLZT (10/30/70) thin film decreases $40\%$ from the initial state, while that of the PLZT (10/30/70) thin film decreases $64\%.$.
