Evaluation of Rail Fatigue Life by Grinding of Kyeong-Bu High-Speed Line (경부고속선의 레일 연마에 따른 레일 피로수명 평가)

  • The importance of maintenance of rail surface defects is increasing according to the KTX operation. That is because during high speed operation of rolling stocks, rail surface defects shorten fatigue life of rail, accelerate track degradation and deteriorate ride comfort. Rail grinding has been applied for effective rail maintenance in Kyeong-Bu HS line. This paper evaluates the effectiveness of rail grinding in term of rail fatigue life. To this end, the stresses of the rail are measured under KTX running and the equivalent stress range is calculated by RMC after the frequency analysis done with rainflow counting method. Also, The Modified Miner's rule is applied to predict the fatigue life of ground rail. The result of the analysis shows that the fatigue life of ground rail is increased by 15%.

  • 일반적으로 접촉 피로 마멸은 구름 또는 미끄럼 접촉시 작용하는 반복 응력에 의해 표면과 표면 아래에 균열이 형성되고 성장 및 합체의 과정을 거쳐 표면의 일부가 떨어져 나가는 손상으로 기어나 캠-롤러, 구름 베어링과 같이 구름-미끄럼 접촉상태로 운전하는 기계요소에서 가장 중요하게 고려되어야 할 파손 메커니즘이다. 특히 기어나 구름 베어링 같이 고주기 접촉 피로 특성을 지니는 기계요소의 수명은 피로수명 실험과 통계적 기법을 이용한 Weibull 이론을 기초로 한 수명식을 대부분 사용하고 있다.(중략)

  • The drive shaft of passenger vehicle has an important role in transmitting the torque between the power train system and the wheels. Torsional fatigue failures occur generally in the connection parts of the spline edge of the drive shaft, when there is significant fatigue damage under repeated twisting loads. A heat treatment, an induction hardening process, has been adopted to increase the torsional strength as well as the fatigue life of the drive shaft. However, it is still unclear how the extension of the induction hardening process in a used material relates to its shear-strain fatigue life range. In this study, a shear-strain controlled torsional-fatigue test with a specially designed specimen was conducted by an electro-dynamic torsional fatigue test machine. A finite element analysis of the drive shaft was carried out using the results obtained by the fatigue experiment. The estimated fatigue life was verified through a twisting load test of the real drive shaft in a test rig.

  • Recently, there were significantly increased cracks failure for external fuel tank horizontal fin of F-5 aircraft. In this paper, the dynamic behavior of horizontal fin was to quantitate by using Finite Element Method. To achieve this goal, the fatigue analysis for time and frequeucy domain has been performed by using the dynamic load spectrum of speed brake. In conclusion, it was proved that fatigue life of the horizontal fin was reduced by the influence of dynamic behavior.

  • In this study, vehicle/track interaction analysis by the Saemaul powered vehicle was carried out. The prediction equation for the bending stress of rail was estimated using the rail bending stress by the rail surface irregularities at welds. Also, the fatigue analysis using a S-N curve of welds in the conventional railway was carried out. We estimated the fatigue life of CWR by the fracture probability. By the rail grinding, the fatigue life of CWR was evaluated in consideration to reduce the rail bending stress through removing the rail surface irregularities. Therefore, it presented the fatigue life of CWR according to the rail grinding execution plan in the conventional railway.

  • 본 고에서는 설계자가 초기 설계시 적용할 수 있는 간이피로해석방법에 대하여 기술하였으며, 특히 선체의 각 구조상세에 대하여 산정된 응력집중계수를 이용하여 피로수명을 쉽게 평가할 수 있는 집중응력방법을 정립하였다. 이 집중응력방법을 사용하면 모든 구조상세에 대하여 한개의 S-N 선도를 적용하게 되므로 일관성 있는 피로상도해석을 수행할 수 있다. 또한 피로수명에 큰 영향을 미치는 파랑하중은 설계조건에 주어진 선급규칙에 따라 계산되어진다. 선체구조의 피로강도평가 기술은 계측, 실험, 해석 및 경험을 포함하는 광범위하고 포괄적이면서 정밀함을 요구하는 종합기술이지만 여기에는 많은 불확실성이 내포되어 있다. 따라서 이를 구명하고 모든 선체구조에 적용할 수 있는 신뢰성 있는 피로강도 평가기술을 개발하기 위하여는 실선계측을 통한 피로하중규명 선체구조에 적용할 수 있는 피로강도 Data base개발, 균열진전해석 등 많은 과제에 대한 집중적인 연구가 계속 수행되어야 한다.

원자로 냉각재 계통 노즐의 피로수명 평가

  • 현재 국내에서 관심이 고조되고 있는 원전 연장운전 방안의 일환으로, 주요 기기의 기술적 타당성 검토 대상기기 중 하나인 원자로 냉각재 배관 노즐의 피로수명 평가를 수행하였다. 본 노즐의 피로수명 평가는 원자로 냉각재 계통 노즐의 최종 설계문서에 제시된 응력해석 결과를 참조하여 ASME Code, Sec III의 절차에 따라 수행하였으며, 평가결과 이들 노즐의 설계수명 30년을 향후 40년 또는 그 이상 연장 운전할 경우에도 무리가 없는 것으로 판단된다.

Thermal Stress Analysis for Life Assessment of Small Steam Turbine Rotor (소형 기력발전용 터빈로터의 수명평가를 위한 열응력 해석)

  • 본 연구에서는 국내 10MW급 기력발전소의 소형 터빈 로터에 대한 응력 해석을 실시하였다. 터빈 로터의 기하학적 형상, 증기의 온도 및 압력 등의 기동조건 변화, 로터 재료의 온도에 따른 물성값 등을 고려하여 대류 열 전달계수를 계산하는 사용자 부프로그램을 구성하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 열해석을 실시하여 로터의 온도 분포를 결정하였다. 이 온도분포 조건에서 시간 경과에 따른 열응력 해석을 실시하여 로터의 응력 분포를 결정하였으며 그 결과 취약부위에서의 응력변동 범위 및 가동중 정상상태 응력수준을 결정하였다. 이 취약부위의 응력값과 운전이력을 이용하여 크리프 수명과 피로수명을 계산하고 로터의 잔여수명을 결정하는 방법을 논의하였다.

Thermal Cycling Analysis of Flip-Chip BGA Solder Joints (플립 칩 BGA 솔더 접합부의 열사이클링 해석)

  • Global full 3D finite element analysis fatigue models are constructed for flip-chip BGA on system board to predict the creep fatigue life of solder joints during the thermal cycling test. The fatigue model applied is based on Darveaux's empirical equation approach with non-linear viscoplastic analysis of solder joints. The creep life was estimated the creep life as the variations of the four kinds of thermal cycling test conditions, pad structure, composition and size of solder ball. The shortest fatigue life was obtained at the thermal cycling test condition from $-65^{\circ}C$ to $150^{\circ}C$. It was increased about 3.5 times in comparison with that from $0^{\circ}C$ to $100^{\circ}C$. At the same conditions, the fatigue life of SMD structure as the change of pad structure increased about 5.7% as compared with NSMD structure. Consequently, it was confirmed that the fatigue life became short as the creep strain energy density increased in solder joint.

Assessment of Fatigue Life of Out-Of-Plane Gusset Welded Joints using 3D Crack Propagation Analysis (3차원 피로균열 진전해석을 통한 면외거셋 용접이음의 피로수명 평가)

  • The estimation of the fatigue design life for large welded structures is usually performed using the liner cumulative damage method such as Palmgren-Miner rule or the equivalent damage method. When a fatigue crack is detected in a welded steel structure, the residual service life has to be estimated base on S-N curve method and liner elastic fracture mechanics. In this study, to examine the 3D fatigue crack behavior and estimate the fatigue life of out-of-plane gusset fillet welded joint, the fatigue tests were carried out on the model specimens. Investigations of three-dimensional fatigue crack propagation on gusset welded joint was used the finite element analysis of FEMAP with NX NASTRAN and FRANC3D. Fatigue crack growth analysis was carried out to demonstrate the effects of aspect ratio, initial crack length and stress ratio on out-of-plane gusset welded joints. In addition, the crack behaviors of fatigue tests were compared with those of the 3D crack propagation analysis in terms of changes in crack length and aspect ratio. From this analysis result, SIFs behaviors and crack propagation rate of gusset welded joint were shown to be similar fatigue test results and the fatigue life can also be predicted.
