  • Virtualization allows multiple virtual machines to share the resources of a physical machine in order to utilize idle resources. The purpose of virtualization is the efficient allocation of resources among virtual machines. However, the efficient allocation of resources is difficult because the workload characteristics of each virtual machine cannot be understood in the current virtualization environment. This causes performance interference among virtual machines, which leads to performance degradation of the virtual machine. Previous works have been carried out to develop a method of solving such performance interference. This paper introduces a representative method, a CPU scheduling method that guarantees I/O performance by using feedback control to solve performance interference. In addition, we compare and analyze a model-based feedback control method and a dynamic feedback control method.

Internet Congestion Control Using Queue Prediction (큐 예측을 통한 인터넷 혼잡 제어)

  • 본 논문에서는 인터넷 혼잡제어를 위한 새로운 방법을 제안한다. 라우터 큐에 예측제어함수를 적용하여 미래의 혼잡상황을 예측하고 소스에게 미리 피드백을 수행하여 혼잡제어를 한다. 예측제어함수는 실제 큐와 예측된 큐의 오차를 계산하여 주기적으로 예측함수를 갱신하는 NLMS 방식의 예측제어함수를 적용한다. 피드백 정보의 전송지연으로 인한 혼잡상황 악화가 발생하기 전에 혼잡상황에 대응할 수 있으므로 라우터 버퍼 사용효율의 최적함을 유지할 수 있으며 버퍼 오퍼플로우로 발생하는 패킷의 손실을 최소화 할 수 있다. 혼잡상황을 야기하도록 과도한 트래픽을 생성하여 라우터에서 예측함수를 적용하는 경우와 단지 혼잡알림제어를 수행하는 경우를 비교하여 시뮬레이션을 수행하였다. 예측함수를 적용하는 경우는 시스템 성능효율을 증가시키며 라우터 버퍼 크기를 최적하게 사용할 뿐만 아니라 오퍼플로우가 발생하지 않았으나 예측함수를 적용하지 않고 혼잡알림제어를 수행하는 경우는 과도한 큐 크기와 오버플로우가 발생하였음을 시뮬레이션을 통해서 보인다.

  • 컴퓨터 네트워크에서 전송제어 프로토콜 상에서 다중시간 간격으로 혼잡제어의 지연을 피드백 루프의 시간간격을 조정하여 명시적 예측을 실행해 제어의 단점을 개선하는데 연구한다. 먼저 TCP의 모둘 형 확장에서 Tahoe, Reno, Vegas등 다양한 버전의 TCP에 적용되는 간단한 인터페이스를 통한 함수 호출을 정의하고, 이것이 성능을 크게 향상시는 것을 입증한다. 두 번째로, 광대역 WAN에서 지연-대역폭의 곱이 높을 경우 더욱 심각해지는 사후 제어의 불확실성 차이를 해소함으로써 MTS TCP가 기반 피드백 제어에 사전성을 부여한다는 것을 입증한다. 세번째는 트래픽 제어의 3가지 차원인, 즉 추적 능력, 연결 지속 기간, 공정성이 성능에 미치는 영향 등을 비교 분석하여 입증한다.

  • 자기 유사성(self-similarity)은 다양한 네트워크 환경에서 공통적으로 발생하는 현상인 것으로 정체 제어에서 자기 유사성 트래픽의 장거리 상관 구조를 활용할 가능성과 MTS(Multiple Time Scale) 정체 제어의 프레임워크를 발전시켜, 이 프레임워크가 전송 율 기반 피드백 제어의 성능을 향상시키는 데 시뮬레이션을 통해 트래픽 조건으로 다음과 같이 연구한다. 자기유사성 트래픽 조건에서 3가지 단계로 구성한다. 먼저 TCP의 모듈 형 확장에서 Tahoe, Reno, Vegas등 다양한 버전의 TCP에 적용되는 간단한 인터페이스를 통한 함수 호출을 정의하고, 이것이 성능을 크게 향상시는 것을 입증한다. 두 번째로, 광대역 WAN에서 지연-대역폭의 곱이 높을 경우 더욱 심각해지는 사후 제어의 불확실성 차이를 해소함으로써 MTS TCP가 기반 피드백 제어에 사전성을 부여한다는 것을 입증한다. 세번째는 트래픽 제어의 3가지 차원인, 즉 추적 능력, 연결 지속 기간, 공정성이 성능에 미치는 영향 등을 비교 분석하여 입증한다.

  • Variable Message Signs have been used for providing information on the current traffic conditions. However, it is considered more important to achieve optimal traffic allocation among the alternative routes by strategic VMS information provision. Fuzzy control is very effective and efficient to deal with such systems that are too complex and uncertain to build mathematical models. In this paper, a fuzzy feedback controller for VMS is proposed, whose goal is to achieve the travel time equilibrium between the two alternative routes. The performance of the suggested controller is implemented and examined using MATLAB/Simulink. More robust controller applicable to a real highway network is suggested for the further research.

  • Asynchronous transfer mode(ATM) is flexible to support the various multimedia communication services such as data, voice, and image by applying asynchronous time-sharing and statistical multiplexing techniques to the existing data communication. ATM service is categorized to CBR, VBR, UBR, and ABR according to characteristics of the traffic and a required service qualities. Among them, ABR service guarantees a minimal bandwidth and can transmit cells at a maximum transmission rate within the available bandwidth. To minimize the cell losses in transmission and switching, a feedback information in ATM network is used to control the traffic. In this paper, predictive control algorithms are proposed for the feedback information. When the feedback information takes a long propagation delay to the backward nodes, ATM switch can experience a congestion situation from the queue length increases, and a high queue length fluctuations in time. The control algorithms proposed in this paper provides predictive control model using slop changes of the queue length function and previous data of the queue lengths. Simulation shows the effectiveness result of the proposed control algorithms.

  • In this paper, a seesaw system composed with a moving cart on the rail and seesaw frame is made to demonstrate the effectiveness of the control theory. The control aim is to maintain an equilibrium of seesaw frame in spite of various initial conditions and an allowable disturbance. To solve this control problem, a PI-type state feedback controller using reduced-order observer is implemented and applied to the seesaw system. The reduced-order observer can be used to estimate the state variables in the case of the limit of sensor number or the constraint on setting sensors and the cost. A series of simulation are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the control system.

  • This is a preliminary study for the real-time feedback vibration control of building structures. The study developed a wireless acceleration sensor system based on authentic technology capacities, to integrate with the Prototype AMD system and ultimately construct the feedback vibration control system. These systems were used to evaluate the basic performance levels of the control systems within model building structures. For this purpose, the study first developed a wireless acceleration sensor unit that integrates an MEMS sensor device and bluetooth communication module. Also, the study developed an operating program that enables control output based on real-time acceleration response measurement and control law. Furthermore, the Prototype AMD and motor driver system were constructed to be maneuvered by the AC servo-motor. Eventually, all these compositions were used to evaluate the real-time feedback vibration control system of a 2-story model building, and qualitatively measure the extent of vibrational reduction of the target structure within the laboratory validation tests. As a result of the tests, there was a definite vibrational reduction effect within the laboratory validation tests. As a result of the tests, there was a definite vibrational reduction effect within 1st and 2nd resonance frequency as well as the random frequency of the model building structure. Ultimately, this study confirmed the potential of its wireless acceleration sensor system and AMD system as an effective tool that can be applied to the active vibration control of other structures.

Unfairness of Congestion Control for Point-to-Multipoint Connections on ATM (ATM 상의 다중점 연결을 위한 폭주 제어 기법의 불공정성)

  • The methods of providing available bandwidth adaptively using feedback to maximize the utilization of network as well as the quality of service have been the focus of recent research activities for ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode). This study has been extended from the point-to-point connection to a point-to-multipoint environment as the number of applications requiring multicast service increases. It is known that the effectiveness of feedback based congestion control scheme diminishes as propagation delay increases. Especially for a multicast connection consisting of various paths and destinations with different performance and congestion status, the problem of unfairness due to different propagation delays may occur. The degree of such unfairness may change depending on various aspects of congestion control schemes. These has been, however, relatively little study on these problems. In this paper, we present how various aspects of control schemes-length of the interval between feedback generations, point of time to coalesce feedback cells from child paths, decreasing factor of source rate in case of congestion-affect the degree of unfairness. Simulation results show that degree of unfairness changes according to when the feedback coalescing happens. Expecially it is shown that the effect of feedback coalescing time to the degree of unfairness is more significant for the smaller feedback interval. It is also found that as the source rate decreasing factor becomes larger the average ACR(Allowed Cell Rate) at the source gets lower and the degree of unfairness grow larger.

The Development of a learning Control Method for the Application to Industrial Robots (로봇트에의 적용을 위한 학습제어 방법 개발)

  • In this paper, we show that our previously proposed second-order iterative learning control method with feedback is more effective and has better convergence performance than the second-order iterative learning control method without feedback, particularly in the case of the existence of initial condition errors. Also the convergence proof of the proposed method is given. And through the simulation result of applying the proposed method to the linear time-varying system, we show that our proposed method has enhanced robustness and stability in case of the existence of initial condition errors.
