  • In this paper, we introduce a computing resource standard metadata schema design plan for registering, retrieving, and managing computing resources used for research data analysis and utilization in the Korea Research Data Commons(KRDC). KRDC is a joint utilization system of research data and computing resources to maximize the sharing and utilization of research data. Computing resources refer to all resources in the computing environment, such as analysis infrastructure and analysis software, necessary to analyze and utilize research data used in the entire research process. The standard metadata schema for KRDC computing resource management is designed by considering common attributes for computing resource management and other attributes according to each computing resource feature. The standard metadata schema for computing resource management consists of a computing resource metadata schema and a computing resource provider metadata schema. In addition, the metadata schema of computing resources and providers was designed as a service schema and a system schema group according to their characteristics. The standard metadata schema designed in this paper is used for computing resource registration, retrieval, management, and workflow services for computing resource providers and computing resource users through the KRDC web service, and is designed in a scalable form for various computing resource links.

  • This study employed a 3-D numerical analysis based on the distinct element method to estimate the strength and deformability of a Cretaceous biotite granitic rock mass at Gijang, Busan, Korea. A workflow was proposed to evaluate the scale effect and the representative elementary volume (REV) of mechanical properties for fractured rock masses. Directional strength and deformability parameters such as block strength, deformation modulus, shear modulus, and bulk modulus were estimated for a discrete fracture network (DFN) in a cubic block the size of the REV. The size of the mechanical REV for fractured rock masses in the study area was determined to be a 15 m cube. The mean block strength and mean deformation modulus of the DFN cube block were found to be 52.8% and 57.7% of the intact rock's strength and Young's modulus, respectively. A constitutive model was derived for the study area that describes the linear-elastic and orthotropic mechanical behavior of the rock mass. The model is expected to help evaluate the stability of tunnels and underground spaces through equivalent continuum analysis.

  • A workflow is presented to estimate the size of a representative elementary volume and 3-D hydraulic conductivity tensor based on fluid flow analysis for a discrete fracture network (DFN). A case study is considered for a Cretaceous granitic rock mass at Gijang in Busan, Korea. The intensity and size of joints were calibrated using the first invariant of the fracture tensor for the 2-D DFN of the study area. Effective hydraulic apertures were obtained by analyzing the results of field packer tests. The representative elementary volume of the 2-D DFN was determined to be 20 m square by investigating the variations in the directional hydraulic conductivity for blocks of different sizes. The directional hydraulic conductivities calculated from the 2-D DFN exhibited strong anisotropy related to the hydraulic behavior of the study area. The 3-D hydraulic conductivity tensor for the fractured rock mass of the study area was estimated from the directional block conductivities of the 2-D DFN blocks generated for various directions in 3-D. The orientations of the principal components of the 3-D hydraulic conductivity tensor were found to be identical to those of delineated joint sets in the study area.

  • This study has focused on the possibility for recycling of tailings from the sangdong tungsten mine as powder (TA) of self-compacting concrete (SCC). The experimental tests for entrapped water ratio were carried out in accordance with the specified method by Okamura. The rheological measurements of cement paste were conducted by using a commercially digital Brookfield viscometer (Model LVDV-II+) equipped with cylindrical spindles, also tests for slump-flow, time required to reach 500 mm of slump flow (sec), time required to flow through V-funnel (sec) and filling height of U-box test (mm) were carried out in accordance with the specified by the Japanese Society of Civil Engineering (JSCE). The results of this study, entrapped water ratio was decreased with increasing replacement of TA. Thickness of pseudo water film was increased, and mean plastic viscosity was decreased with increasing replacement of TA. And slump-flow of SCC was decreased with increasing replacement of TA. But time required to reach 500 mm of slump flow (sec), time required to flow through V-funnel (sec) and filling height of U-box test (mm) were satisfied a prescribed range. The mechanical properties including compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and elastic modulus were checked with the requirements specified by Korean Industrial Standard (KS). The compressive strength of SCC was decreased with increasing replacement of TA, splitting tensile strength and elastic modulus were similar to those of normal concrete.

  • In this study, the development of a self-healing concrete waterproofing agent was examined, focusing on its manufacturing and waterproofing properties. The optimal ratio using microcapsules for the concrete waterproofing agent was determined through assessments of flow, compressive strength, and permeability conducted during the mortar stage. These findings aimed to provide fundamental data for evaluating the self-healing properties of the concrete waterproofing agent designed for use in concrete structures. The self-healing concrete waterproofing agent was comprised of three types of inorganic materials commonly used for repair purposes. From experimental results, a composition ratio with a high potassium silicate content, referred to as SIM-2, was found suitable. A surfactant mixing ratio of 0.03 % was identified to enhance the dispersibility of the concrete waterproofing agent, while a mixing ratio of 0.2 % distilled water was deemed suitable for viscosity adjustment. For the magnetic self-healing concrete waterproofing agent's healing agent, using microcapsules in the range of 0.5 % to 0.7 % met the KS F 4949 and KS F 4926 standards.

  • In this study, the bonding performance of repair materials was evaluated on concrete repair surface to develop concrete repair materials based on UHPC (Ultra High Performance Concrete) which has high mechanical and durability performance. The ten test variables were applied considering the roughness and wet condition of the concrete surface subject to repair, the addition of polymer, and the use PP and PVA fibers in repair materials. The addition of the polymer caused a significant decrease in strength, which was thought to be due to the effect of the additional super plasticizer used to adjust workability. Also, flow was reduced by up to 13.8 % with the use of plastic-based fibers. As a result of evaluating the bond strength of the repair material considering the condition of the surface subject to repair, it was thought that in the case of using UHPC-based repair material, high bonding performance could be secured without any additional surface treatment as long as the surface of the base material was sound. In addition, UHPC-based repair materials showed high bonding performance even when the attachment surface was wet. In the future, research will be conducted on shot-crete application and gradient pouring for the development of UHPC-based repair materials, and continuous improvement in the repair material mixing property will be carried out to ensure economic efficiency and performance as a concrete structural repair material.

  • This research experimentally evaluated the recyclability of four varieties of lignocellulosic fly ash(FA), a by-product from three power plants employing lignocellulosic biomass(Bio-SRF, wood pellets) as a fuel source. Comprehensive analyses were conducted on FA, encompassing both physical parameters (particle shape, size distribution, fineness, and density) and chemical properties(chemical composition and heavy metal content). Mortar test specimens, with FA mixing ratios ranging from 5 to 20%, were produced in compliance with KS L 5405 standards, and their flow and compressive strength were subsequently measured. The test results indicated that the four types of FA exhibited particle sizes approximately between 20~30㎛, densities around 2.3~2.5g/cm3, and a fineness range of 2,600~4,900cm2/g. The FA comprised approximately 50~90% of components such as SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, and CaO, displaying characteristics akin to type-II and type-III FA of KS L 5405 standards, albeit with differences in chlorine and SiO2 content. From the mortar tests, it was observed that the compressive strength of the mortar ranged between 34~47MPa when the pellet combustion FA was mixed in proportions of 5~20%. FA, produced exclusively from the combustion of 100% lignocellulosic fuel, is assessed to possess high recyclability potential as a substitute for conventional admixtures.

  • As interest in ESG has been increased, it is easy to find papers that empirically study that a company's ESG activities have a positive impact on the company's performance. However, research on what ESG activities companies should actually engage in is relatively lacking. Accordingly, this study systematically classifies ESG activities of companies and seeks to provide insight to companies seeking to plan new ESG activities. This study analyzes how Chinese manufacturing companies perform ESG activities based on their dynamic capabilities in the global economy and how they differ in their activities. This study used the ESG annual reports of 151 Chinese manufacturing listed companies on the Shanghai & Shenzhen Stock Exchange and ESG indicators of China Securities Index Company (CSI) as data. This study focused on the following three research questions. The first is to determine whether there are any differences in ESG activities between companies with high ESG scores (TOP-25) and companies with low ESG scores (BOT-25), and the second is to determine whether there are any changes in ESG activities over a 10-year period (2010-2019), focusing only on companies with high ESG scores. The results showed that there was a significant difference in ESG activities between high and low ESG scorers, while tracking the year-to-year change in activities of the top-25 companies did not show any difference in ESG activities. In the third study, social network analysis was conducted on the keywords of E/S/G. Through the co-concurrence matrix technique, we visualized the ESG activities of companies in a four-quadrant graph and set the direction for ESG activities based on this.

  • Even though MR can reveal excellent soft-tissue contrast and functional information, CT is also required for electron density information for accurate dose calculation in Radiotherapy. For the fusion of MRI and CT images in RT treatment planning workflow, patients are normally scanned on both MRI and CT imaging modalities. Recently deep-learning-based generations of CT images from MR images became possible owing to machine learning technology. This eliminated CT scanning work. This study implemented a CycleGan deep-learning-based CT image generation from MR images. Three CT generators whose learning is based on T1- , T2- , or T1-&T2-weighted MR images were created, respectively. We found that the T1-weighted MR image-based generator can generate better than other CT generators when T1-weighted MR images are input. In contrast, a T2-weighted MR image-based generator can generate better than other CT generators do when T2-weighted MR images are input. The results say that the CT generator from MR images is just outside the practical clinics and the specific weight MR image-based machine-learning generator can generate better CT images than other sequence MR image-based generators do.

  • In this study, CO2-immobilized desulfurized gypsum(CFDG) was applied to ground granulated blast furnace slag to examine the basic properties of mortar and concrete, and to evaluate its responsiveness through field demonstration test. CFDG had a relatively circular composition compared to desulfurized gypsum(DG), and its main components were CaO 47.6 % and SO3 22.1 %. As a result of mortar and concrete tests, the flow tended to increase and the compressive strength was at the same level. In addition, the target properties of concrete for application to farm roads, which were a slump of 120±25 mm and a compressive strength of 24 MPa, were satisfied with a slump of 135 mm and a compressive strength of 42.1 MPa at 28 days. In February 2024, an on-site demonstration of a farm road was conducted in Seongmun-myeon, Dangjin-si, and as a result of reviewing the compressive strength according to curing conditions, the physical properties and durability of unhardened concrete, the target results were satisfied, expanding the use of CFDG by applying fine powder of blast furnace slag and carbon reduction can be expected.
