Chalconyl 과 Cholesteryl 기를 함유한 광폴리머의 합성 및 LCD 응용 (Synthesis of photopolymer containing chalconyl and cholesteryl moieties and their LCD applications)

  • Synthesis of a new copoly (M4Ch-ChMA), copoly ((4-methacryloyloxy) chalcone-cholestery methacrylate), with chalconyl and cholesterol moiety characteristics for photoalignment materials was investigated. Good thermal stabilities of the synthesized copolymers are confirmed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) measurement. The pretilt angles of the nematic liquid crystal (NLC) are reduced as UV exposure time is increased on the copolymer surfaces. A pretilt angle of 81$^{\circ}$in NLC was observed with UV exposure of 3 min on the copolymer-3 surface. The NLCs pretilt angle is attributable to increased chalcone with increasing the UV exposure time.

  • In this study, we investigated the Pretilt ang1e generation in nematic liquid crystal (NLC) by using the transcription, alignment on polyimide(Pl) surfaces. That the uniform alignment of NLC is observed by microphotograph textures in LC cells on Pl surface. We obtained that the pretilt angle of NLC are generated about 3.6$^{\circ}$on Pl surface. It is considered that the LC alignment by transcription alignment method is attributed to memory effect of LC on Pl surface.

  • We have studied electro-optic characteristics as a function of pretilt angle ($\theta$$_{p}$) in the fringe-field switching (FFS) mode using the LC with positive dielectric anisotropy. When $\theta$$_{p}$ is increased from 0$^{\circ}$ to 20$^{\circ}$, a maximum transmittance and an operating voltage are obviously decreased. In the viewing angle characteristics, the cell with low pretilt angle has a wide region for the contrast ratio greater than 5 and has a best luminance uniformity. Therefore, in the FFS device, a low pretilt angle is favored for high transmittance and wide viewing angle.gle.

  • The mechanisms of pretilt angle generation in nematic liquid crystal (NLC) with negative dielectric anisotropy on a rubbed polyimide (PI) surface for homeotropic alignment were studied. The pretilt angle of negative type NLC was smaller than that of the positive type NLC for all rubbing strength regions on the rubbed PI surface. The pretilt angle generated in NLC does not attributable to steric interaction between the fluorine moiety of NLC and the polymer surface on the rubbed PI surface. Consequently, the mechanism of the pretilt angle generation for homeotropic alignment is different from the one for homogeneous alignment.

  • The mechanisms of pretilt angle generation for a nematic liquid cystal (NLC) using a photodimerization method with obliquely polarized UV exposure on the various new photo-crosslinkable polymer were studied. A good thermal stability of all the photo-crosslinkable polymers was obtained by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) measurement until 450$\^{C}$. High pretilt angle of the NLC was observed by polarized UV exposure on the three kinds of the photo-crosslinkable polymers containing biphenyl(BP), decyl(de), and cholesteryl(chol) group, respectively. However, the low pretilt angle of the NLC was measured by obliquely polarized UV exposure on the two kinds of the photo-crosslinkable polymers containing fluorine and chalcone group. Consequently, the high NLC angle generated is attributable to the biphenyl and alkyl moieties, and photo-dimerized chalcone group of the photopolymer.

  • In this paper, we studied the liquid crystal(LC) alignment and generation of pretilt angle in nematic (N) LC with oblique p-wave polarized ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation on the two kinds of the polyimide (PI) surface. The monodomain alignment of NLC is obtained with oblique p-wave polarized UV light irradiated on PI surface at 5$\sim$60min. We obtained that the pretilt angles of the NLC is generated about $2.1^{\circ}$ with angle of incidence of $30^{\circ}$ at 20min. Also, the pretilt angle of NLC decreases with increasing the imidization temperature on PI surface.

  • We have investigated the generation of pretilt angle for a nematic liquid crystal (NLC) alignment with rubbing alignment method on polyimide surfaces using thin plastic substrates. It was found that monodomain alignment of LNC is obtained with rubbing alignment method on polyimide surfaces using thin plastic substrates. The generated NLC pretilt angles are about $3^{\circ}$ by the rubbing alignment method on thin plastic substrates, However, the pretilt angle measured at about $1.7^{\circ}$ lower on the glass substrate than by thin plastic substrate. It is considered that this alignment may be attributed to roughness of micro groove substrate. The tilt angle increases with increasing baking temperature for making polyimide layer using glass substrate. It was concluded that pretilt angle in the polyimide surface is attributable to the increasing of imide rato.

  • Aligning capabilities for nematic liquid crystal (NLC) using a in-situ photodimerization method on various photo-crosslinkable polyimide (PI) based polymer and blending photopolymer surfaces were stuided. High pretilt angle of the NLC can be measured by obliquely polarized UV exposure on a photo-crosslinkable polyirnide based polymer surface containing biphenyl (BP), decyl (de), and cholesteryl (chol) group, respectively, However, the low pretilt angle of the NLC was measured by obliquely polarized UV exposure on the blending photopolymer (PI and cinnamate materials) surfaces. Consequently, the pretilt angle of the NLC generated on the photo-crosslinkable polyimide based polymer surfaces using the in-situ photodimerization method was higher than that of the blending photopolymers.

  • In this paper we investigated the transcription of liquid crystal (LC) alignment method by using memory effect of nematic(N) LCon polymide(PI) surface with side chain as for non-rubbing alignment techniques. That the monodomain alignment of aligned NLC is observed by microscope textures in the cells on PI surface with side chain. We obtained that the pretilt angle of NLC are generated about 3.7$^{\circ}$on PI surface. We suggest that the LC alignment by using transcription alingnment method is attributed to memory effect of NLC on PI surface.

  • We have investigated the generation of pretilt angle and alignment stability for a nematic liquid crystal (NLC) with obliquely polarized UV exposure on the three kinds of photo-polymer. High pretilt angle of the NLC was obtained by polarized UV exposure on a PM4Ch surface for 1 min. But, the low pretilt angle of he NLC on a PVCi surface was observed. The pretilt angle generated is attributed ot the photosensitivity by the long side chaining of photo-polymer. Also, a good thermal stability of the three kinds of photo-polymer were obtained by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) measurement until 300$^{\circ}C$. Finally, the good LC aligning capabilities using the photodimerization method were observed by annealing-treatment until 150$^{\circ}C$.
