An Automated CAD System for Press Die Design in Cold Forging of Axisymmetric Parts (축대칭 제품을 위한 프레스 냉간단조 금형의 자동설계 기술)

  • The automated die design program is developed for cold forging of axisymmetric parts which are mainly produced by forward extrusion, backward extrusion, composite extrusion and upsetting. For this study, firstly classification of forged parts and investigation of die construction type usually employed in forging industry are carried out and the most proper type from several kinds of die construction is proposed as a standardized one. Based on the die design rules summarized in the references such as handbooks, technical papers, monthly journals, etc. the automated die design program was made using AutoLISP language available in AutoCAD software of personal computer. This program interactively runs for only input data, for example, forging process, shape of forged parts, type of punch, split of die insert and design of shrinkage rings and then displays details of drawings necessary to make a forging die. When a variety of forging processes and forged parts are tested to examine the validity of this program, it was confirmed to give good results applicable to the forging die design in press shop.

  • The die technology of a high-efficiency induction motor is an important technology for manufacturing the core (iron core), which is the major part of a high-efficiency induction motor. It is also an essential technology in enhancing national competitiveness. In this study, the core of a high-efficiency induction motor was designed and manufactured as 2 prototype dies: one is for small-size, and the other is for large-size. They are then tested by attaching in press, the result are considered.

  • Some Developments in computer aided procedures for cold forging process and tool design of rotationally symmetric cup shape parts are described. The developed system enables appropriate forging sequence to be determined automatically, together with details of corresponding preform, die and punch design. The computer program developed is interactive and written in BASIC. This system not only assist the heavy work of designers but greatly shorten the time of design.

  • In this study, a device and pressure press process that is able to substitute autoclave process is developed. This process complements disadvantages of autoclave process which are long process-time and high production cost. The developed device provides air pressure as well as the vacuum which are greatest feature of autoclave process. The device is sealed using hydraulic pressure to keep the air pressure inside the mold. The transfer of the heat is designed to be direct. The heating and pressure charging time are decreased by reducing the interior space. Tooling cost is reduced dramatically compared to autoclave process. Spring-back phenomenon is measured and compared. The temperatures of several parts of the mold during molding are measured. The fiber volume fraction of the parts molded by autoclave process and by the developed process are compared.

  • In the present study the newly developed CAD/CAM system is applied to the process of the molding design, machining for mini-sized and precise processive die, and the production of press-stamped parts. When the design of a die was completed by means of CAD, wire cut NC data were generated with the aid of a design drawing in the CAD system and then inputed into the wire cut machine, and with the aid of a hole chart which had been made for this purpose, all the data were classified into the categories of CNC milling, jig boring, jig grinding, and machine center, and then developing a program of generating NC data, errors in process were reduced and programming time was shortened. The program was developed by using Autolisp language which was built-in the CAD, and realizing the intergation of designing a die, generating and processing NC data directly by a designer, designing time and machinery processing time were shorted. And the traditionally required working time for design. NC program required 6 days of work becomes 4 days of work by using the developed CAD/CAM system so that the efficiency shows 150% of the reduction working time. The prpgram of the design of the automation a progressive die mold was developed in the PC-Class Autocad system, therefore development expense could be reduced, and the integration of the CAD/CAM of the progressive die mold with the standard DB being built could be realized.

  • 승용차 산업과 같이 정밀 부품이 요구되는 산업에 있어서 가장 기초가 되고도 중요한 것은 시작금형에 해당하는 정밀 목형 제작이라고 할 수 있다. 부품의 개발은 일반적으로 설계과정, 도면화 과정, 시제품 개발과정, 시제품 성능시험과정, 양산체제 구축과정 등의 순서를 밟는다. 이 과정 중에서 시제품 개발과정은 설계에 의해서 만들어진 제품이 실제 설계자의 의도와 일치하는지를 확인하는 과정이다. 이 과정에서 부품 간의 간섭, 치수나 형상의 확인, 기능 혹은 성능상의 문제점 등을 검토하여 양산체제시에 발생할 수 있는 문제점 등을 최대한 제거하여야 한다. 그런데 시제품 제작에 걸리는 기간이 개발과정 중에서도 비교적 큰 부분을 차지하고 있어 이의 단축이 시급한 실정이다. 현재 시제품 제작업체들 중에서 프레스 금형을 위한 판넬 수지가공에는 3D CAD/CAM을 많이 적용하고 있지만, 주물 소재용 목형제작은 대부분 숙련된 기술자의 수작업에 의존하고 있다. 따라서 개발기간 단축과 비용절감이라는 완성차 업계의 요구와는 거리가 있는 실정이다. 당사는 이미 실린더 헤드, 매니홀더, 트랜스밋션 케이스, 헤드커버, 실린드블럭 등 자동차 엔진의 핵심부품들의 목형을 3D CAD/CAM을 이용하여 생산하고 있기 때문에 이중 트랜스밋션 케이스의 목형제작 과정을 소개하고자 한다.

  • 종래에 자동차 차체의 프레스 성형 공정은 설계자의 정성적인 계산이나 다이 (Trial Dic)에 의해 시행 착오 끝에 설계되었다. 그런데, 부정확하게 계산되는 경우가 많아, 아이가 준비된 후 단점이 노출되어 여러 차례 수정 과정을 겪게 되어 시간과 경비를 증대시키는 원인이 되었다. 자동차 회사에서는 이 때문에 금형 설계 단계에서 빠르고 정확하게 금형의 불량을 예측하고 성형성을 정량적으로 평가하기 위한 시스템을 필요로 한다. 그중 비선형 유한요소법(F.E.M)에 의한 시뮬레이션은 정확한 해와 많은 정보를 줄 수 있다는 장점을 가지고 있다. 그러나, 3차원적인 대단히 복잡하고도 치수가 큰 자동차 판넬에 있어서는 수렴성 등의 문제로 적절한 시간 안에 충분한 정밀도를 갖는 해를 구할 수 있는 단계까지는 이르지 못하고 있다.

A Study on the Development of a Range Hood Front Cover using Change Core Method (Change Core 공법을 이용한 렌지후드 Front Cover 개발)

  • Recently, considerable effort has been made to maintain a pleasant and safe indoor environment in buildings. For this, the use of a ventilation system attached to a range hood in kitchens has prevailed. Accordingly, diversiform designs for range hoods have been used. Press molding is normally used for range hood construction for several reasons. On the other hand, its economic efficiency is low in the case of a small production work. Considerable research has been carried out to solve this problem and it is believed that it is useful to use the change core method to develop molds. This study designed the core of a mold using the change core method and a total of four processes were used in its manufacture. As a result, the press molds, which are needed for shorter production runs and whose form is changeable, were developed. In addition, after the measurements in three-dimensions, the specimen passed a test within a tolerance of ${\pm}2.00mm$.

  • Even though 3D press die design gains more attention everyday in Korea, there are shortages of infrastructure and proper environments for it. What is most needed is human resources development and 3D die design standardization, on which the pace of 3D die design adoption depends. This study focuses on 3D press die design process by looking into an instance in which 3D die design system had been used to sell dies to a company "S" in Japan.

  • The plane-strain stamping process is analyzed by a forming energy minimization method in order to obtain forming load, slip length and strain distribution in each step of punch stroke. All the developed programs are integrated into total CAD/CAE SYSTEM for the purpose of the practical usage in die design. The computed strain distribution and the amount of draw-in are compared with those of the actually developed panel It is found that there is a good agreement between theoretical and experimental results.
