Recently the importance of renewable energy is stood out regarding to the international concern about global environmental issues. Wind power is beginning to receive attention as one of renewable energy, and world-wide researches about wind power are being carried out. In the wind power system, tower structure plays an important roles for continuous and stable generation of electricity. Researchers use various analytical models to research and develop about tower structures. In this study, the effects of natural frequencies of various wind turbine tower models have been analyzed. It is possible to simplify the detailed parts of models by using modified tower unit weight since the results of 1st natural frequency show that the difference is only 0.14%. Since the difference in natural frequency is greater than 10%, according to the boundary condition, the simple fix end support is not appropriate to represent the real structure of the tower. It is expected that the result of this study may be utilized to establish the criterion about appropriate modelling method.

Stand-alone PV systems and grid-connected distribution lines operating independently with out the advantage that it is simple, and construction equipment, but the advantage of less expensive MPPT converter and production, including the energy stored in the battery charging circuit and battery for managing circuitry is required. The use of existing alternative energy in the form of combined-cycle power generation than the one adopted by the form, but primarily solar / wind power system to optimize complex to design and improve the ability to install a battery that canrationalize the price you need an integrated control system be.

When the wind power system is planned to construct, it is important to understand the physical, chemical and mechanical properties of sediment. Especially, If it is the seabed unconsolidated sediment, we need to experiment on sediment through seabed unconsolidated sediment test and sediment survey. Because the sediment's properties are different as its formation, accumulation and load, unconsolidated sediment is difficult to be expected to its behavior. So we can estimate suitability for mechanical material and decrease the uncertainty through seabed unconsolidated sediment test. Seabed unconsolidated sediment test can be experimented in laboratory or in-situ as purpose, in-situ condition, economic problem. In this study, we sampled the seabed unconsolidated sediment at offshore around Korea Maritime University and measured properties of sediment through the laboratory test, showed the effect on physical properties of seabed unconsolidated sediment when the wind power system is planned to construction.

A severely cold weather condition of King Sejong Station, Antarctica becomes a very severe condition for an installation/operation of wind generation system. When the existing wind generation system works, it may cause a damage and destruction of wind generation system and can bring about big problems in terms of the power quality. Accordingly, it is essential to obtain technologies for the installation and operation of small wind generation system for the polar region's wind generation, and to assess and demonstrate the performance in the severely-cold environment and the polar wind generation system's development, supplementation, alteration. Also, as the available power of King Sejong Station, Antarctica, the diesel generator has been mainly used, and the wind generator has been used in the hybrid form. Wind generation and diesel generation has the different load following control each other. In the wind generation, the generated power very rapidly changes according to the change of the velocity of the wind. On the other hand, the diesel generation shows very gentle change in the velocity of output. Therefore, the study is intended to analyze the 10kw small wind generator-diesel generator's power quality of King Sejong Station, Antarctica, which is the hybrid system installation area.

This paper describes the development of hardware simulator for the operation analysis of DC microgrid. The hardware simulator consists of several distributed power sources such as a wind power generation, solar power and fuel cell, and two energy storages such as a supercapacitor and battery. The main controller which performs a role of energy management and state monitoring is connected with the local controller in each power source and storage through ethernet-based communication link. The developed hardware simulator can be utilized to analyze the performance DC microgrid with practical manner.

Nowadays, the utilization of renewable energy sources like wind energy is considered one of the most effective means of generating massive amounts of electricity. This is evident in the rapid increase of wind farms all over the world which comprise a huge number of wind turbines. However, the drawback of utilizing wind turbines is that it requires maintenance, which could be a costly operation. To keep the wind turbines in pristine condition so as to reduce downtime, the implementation of CMS (Condition Monitoring System) and FDS (Fault Detection System) is mandatory. The efficiency and accuracy of these systems are crucial in deciding when to carry out a maintenance process. In this paper, a fault detection system based on intelligent clustering method is proposed. Using SCADA data, the clustering model was trained and evaluated for its accuracy through rigorous simulations. Results show that the proposed approach is able to accurately detect the deteriorating condition of a wind turbine as it nears a downtime period.

To mitigate the environmental impacts of the energy sector, the government of South Korea has made a continuous effort to facilitate the development and commercialization of renewable energy. As a result, the efficiency of renewable energy plants is not a consideration in the potential site selection process. To contribute to the overall sustainability of this increasingly important sector, this study utilizes the Black-Scholes model to evaluate the economic value of potential sites for off-site wind farms, while analyzing the environmental mitigation of these potential sites in terms of carbon emission reduction. In order to incorporate the importance of flexibility and uncertainty factors in the evaluation process, this study has developed a site evaluation model focused on system dynamics and real option approaches that compares the expected revenue and expected cost during the life cycle of off-site wind farm sites. Using sensitivity analysis, this study further investigates two uncertainty factors (namely, investment cost and wind energy production) on the economic value and carbon emission reduction of potential wind farm locations.

This study aims to assess offshore wind energy resources around Jeju Island using the InVEST Offshore Wind model. First the wind power density around the coast of Jeju was calculated using reanalysis data from the Korean Local Analysis and Prediction System (KLAPS). Next, the net present value (NPV) for the 168MW offshore wind farm scenario was evaluated taking into consideration factors like costs (turbine development, submarine cable installation, maintenance), turbine operation efficiency, and a 20year operation period. It was determined that there are high wind resources along both the western and eastern coasts of Jeju Island, with high wind power densities of $400W/m^2$ calculated. To visually evaluate the NPV around Jeju Island, a classification of five grades was employed, and results showed that the western sea area has a high NPV, with wind power resources over $400W/m^2$. The InVEST Offshore Wind model can quickly provide optimal spatial information for various wind farm scenarios. The InVEST model can be used in combination with results of marine ecosystem service evaluation to design an efficient marine spatial plan around Jeju Island.
This paper presents a modeling and simulation of a utility-connected wind energy conversion system with a link of a rectifier and an inverter. It discusses the maximum power control algorithm for the wind turbine and presents the relationship of wind turbine output, rotor speed, power coefficient, tip-speed ratio and wind speed when the wind turbine is operated under the maximum power control algorithm. The control objective is to extract maximum power from wind and transfer the power to the utility. This is achieved by controlling the pitch angle of the wind turbine blades. Pitch control method is mechanically complicated, but the control performance is better than that of the stall regulation method. The simulation results performed on MATLAB will show the variation of generator's rotor speed, pitch angle, and generator output.

This paper presents the MPPT(Maximum Power Point Tracking)control method of the PMSG wind generation system using the turbine model with a squirrel cage induction motor. The torque of squirrel cage induction turbine model is controlled by mathematization of speed characteristics of real blade. In this paper, maintenance and cost issues into consideration, except for previous method using information of the velocity of the wind speed sensor, the algorithm is presented. The algorithm is controlled by tracking the optimal point, the generator speed and maximum grid power. The vector controls of the generator side converter and the grid side converter are controlled respectively to obtain maximum torque and regulate unity power factor. With Psim simulations and experiments, the efficiency of squirrel cage induction turbine model and the validity of control algorithm are verified.
