  • This paper proposes assessment of quality management activities based on cost of quality. Cost of quality is considered prevention cost, appraisal cost, internal failure cost, external failure cost in this paper. This paper shows quality cost magement system in thermal power site devision according to activity analysis. Cost of quality in power industries provides a valuable method of both proving the need for improvement and giving a starting point for projects.

  • Quality system management adapted by small and medium enterprises in Kangwon province to enhance the competitiveness was studied. Variance analysis on several questionnaire answers was performed. Motives for acquiring the accreditation, such as product export, adjustment to international trend, enhancement of brand/product recognition, CEO's mind change, and management innovation, have been changed significantly among business types. Mind changes after the accreditations were setting company's first priority on quality, enhanced recognition on compliance of in-house standards and regulations, employee's performance with the recognition of quality. Amongst service problems to maintain the accreditations were difficulties in maintaining the recognition of the company's quality management, labor increase to maintain the ISO 9000 enforcement team, and financial burden to keep the accreditation. Quality recognition after the accreditations was significantly improved in setting company's first priority on quality, enhanced recognition on compliance of in-house standards and regulations, employee's performance with the recognition of quality.

  • Purpose: This paper study the effect of the quality management on the performance among the manufacturing companies awarding the Korean National Quality Award(NQA). Methods: The data for 34 manufacturing companies are surveyed by the 7-point Likert scale and empirically tested. Results: Even among the companies awarding NQA for their excellent quality management level there are significant differences in their performance by their quality management levels. In particular, leadership and human resources categories have greater impacts on the performance. Conclusion: Even though the company awarded NQA(KQMA: Korean Quality Management Award) for its excellent quality management level, it is necessary to improve the quality management level continuously. This result supports the necessity of KQGA(Korean Quality Grand Award) which is awarded for the companies which improve quality management levels significantly after awarding KQMA.

  • This paper analyses the moderated effect of quality management program on the efforts of quality management to performance using a sample of 300 Korean manufacturing firms. Result shows that (1) quality management efforts does not effect to engineering quality performance and managerial quality performance does effect to customer performance, and (2) customer performance does not effect to management performance. And quality program has a moderated effect between quality efforts and quality performance. The result shows that there is no direct link between engineering quality performance and management performance.

  • This study distinguished innovation activities into 3 main things (sustainability management activity, management innovation activity and quality innovation activity). Performance differences among those 3 innovation activities are again distinguished into 4 things (affecting on sales revenue, increasing productivity, improving its corporate image and cost reduction) to demonstrate recognition of performance. We also demonstrated difference of performance between manager and other workers.

  • This paper examined whether quality management(QM) positively impacts Kazakh companies' business performance (financial and non-financial performance). As a result of testing ten hypotheses based on the research model for 287 companies in Almaty, only eight hypotheses were supported. Top management leadership was identified as a critical factor that positively affected financial performance, and customer-centered thinking is strongly related to non-financial performance. Employee participation and quality information analysis factors also positively affected business performance, but their influence was lower than top management leadership and customer-centered thinking factors. Finally, the supplier management factor did not significantly affect business performance, and the two related hypotheses were not supported. These results are presumed to be due to the characteristics of the target companies, such as oil and raw material manufacturing and construction, rather than high-quality finished products.
