  • For a survey research in which the characteristics of the population of interest are investigated from a sample, representativeness of the sampling frame is one of the most important part to be considered. If the sampling frame fails to represent the population properly, statistical procedures based on the even efficient sampling design result in significant nonsampling biases and thus the statistical validities of the results could be damaged. But the construction of the reliable sampling frame that covers the population properly costs money and time and thus the sampling frame based on a census or a large scale survey is often used in practice. For example, the sampling frame based on the population households census is used for many household surveys in Korea. But due to the time difference between the census and a survey of interest, the sampling frame constructed from the census is expected to fail to cover the population of interest. Especially, one could expect a large amount of population and household movement in a large city like Seoul. Thus in our research, we considered the construction of new sampling frame and the procedure of sample selection for 2008 Seoul survey. We analyzed the sampling frame based on 2005 population households census and found that it does not represent the population properly. Thus, we proposed a new sampling frame based on resident registration DB for 2008 Seoul survey. We also proposed the sampling weights and estimator of the population mean based on the sample selected from the newly constructed sampling frame.

  • The purpose of this study was to propose the most cost-effective sampling method, by analyzing the cost of forest resource investigation per sampling method for the planned harvesting area of in Chunyang-myeon, Byeonghwa-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Korea. For this study, three sampling methods were selected: random sampling method, systematic sampling method, and line transect method. For each method, sample size, hourly wage, number of sample points, survey time, travel time, the sample error rate of the estimated average volume, and the desired sampling error rate were used to calculate the cost of forest resource inventories. Thus, 10 sampling points were extracted for each sampling method, and the factors required for cost analysis were calculated via a field survey. As a result, the field survey cost per ha using the random sampling method was found to be have the lowest cost, regardless of the desired sampling error rate, followed by the systematic sampling method, and the line transect method.

  • In this paper, we made a program to compare between population parameters and sample statistics, via Excel macro. This program gathers each students’ files to one file, from which a sample is drawn. This program will help students to be interested in class through extracting a part of sample from a group and comparing the difference between parameters and statistics in a few seconds. In Excel, overlapping value could happen when random numbers are generated but we avoid this case by making the sub-program, without replacement with VBA.

  • Random sampling or systematic sampling method is commonly used to assess the accuracy of classification results. In remote sensing, with these sampling method, much time and tedious works are required to acquire sufficient ground truth data. So , a more effective sampling method that can retain the characteristics of the population is required. In this study, fractal analysis is adopted as an index for reference sampling . The fractal dimensions of the whole study area and the sub-regions are calculated to choose sub-regions that have the most similar dimensionality to that of whole-area. Then the whole -area s classification accuracy is compared to those of sub-regions, respectively, and it is verified that the accuracies of selected sub regions are similar to that of full-area . Using the above procedure, a new kind of reference sampling method is proposed. The result shows that it is possible to reduced sampling area and sample size keeping up the same results as existing methods in accuracy tests. Thus, the proposed method is proved cost-effective for reference data sampling.

  • The public survey performance review conducted by the Spatial Information Quality Management Institute is conducted at the screening rate in accordance with the regulations, and the examiner directly judges the overall trend of the submitted performance based on the extracted sample. However, the evaluation of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the evaluation trustee shall be specified by random extraction (Random Collection) is specified by the sample. In this study, it analyzed the details of the actual site and analyzed through securing actual performance review data. In addition, we analyzed considerations according to various field conditions and studied ways to apply the public survey performance review sampling algorithm. Therefore, detailed sampling criteria analysis by performance reviewers is necessary. A relative comparison was made feasible by comparing the data for which the real performance evaluation was performed with the outcomes of the Python automation program. This automation program is expected to be employed as a foundation program for the automated application of public survey performance evaluation sampling in the future.

  • This study deals with the decision problem of sample size by the relative standard error of estimates derived from survey results in successive occasions. The population of the construction in business survey results is used to calculate quartile of the relative standard error of the 1,000 sample obtained from simple or stratified random sampling. The sample size at time t with a relative standard error of the point (t-1) in the successive occasions were calculated according to the sampling method. As a result, in terms of the sample size according to the size of the relative standard error of the (t-1), simple random sampling differs significantly from stratified sampling. In addition, we could see differences in sample size (depending on how the population is stratified) and that careful attention is required in the problem of sample size by the relative standard error of estimates derived from survey results in successive occasions.

  • Species-area and species-quadrat number curves were used to determine the minimum sampling size and the minimum quadrat number for weed data collection in transplanted rice. In both cases, characteristic curves that first increased abruptly and then leveled off as fewer species were added with increased sampling size or quadrat number were obtained. Using these techniques, it was determined that three quadrats each 0.3㎡ (0.5m ${\times}$0.6m) in area were needed to adequately represent the weed community when it was sampled at rice heading.

  • Adaptive sampling design is the selection procedure which depends on observed values of the variable of interest. It is the method which could be applied to the rare and unapproachable population. Adaptive cluster sampling strategies are more efficient than simple random sampling on equivalent sample size. Adaptive sampling with new estimators through the Rao-blackwell method have lower variance than Horvitz-Thompson (HT) and Hansen-Hurwitz (HH). Also, to determine suitable sample size, it was used expected sample and the method finding appropriate sample size by changing initial sample size were studied.
