In this study we investigated and tried to understand problems monitored in an experiment on reactivity of metals in chemistry I. Three problems were discussed. First, the reason that aluminium plate does not react with other metal ions such as zinc, iron and copper was studied and the way to overcome this problem was suggested. Second, the reason that the bubbles were generated when FeS$O_4$(aq) and Zn(s) react was discussed. Third, the precipitates which appeared in the reaction of FeS$O_4$(aq) and Zn(s) were identified. Through reference study and experimental investigation, we could reach the following results. First, aluminium could not react with other metal ions due to the surface oxide layer that is formed very fast and prevents aluminium from reacting with metal ions in solution. This problem could be overcome by allowing a competing reaction of acid and aluminium during the reaction of aluminium and metal ions. Second, the observed bubbles were identified to be hydrogen gas, produced by the reaction between metals and hydronium ion in the solution. Third, black precipitates that were produced on the surface of zinc plate and exhibited magnetic property were characterized to be $Fe_3O_4$(s), and brown precipitates that were produced in the solution phase were to be $Fe_2O_3$(s) by the analysis of X-ray photoelectron spectra.
This study examined the morphology and physical and chemical characteristics of the Changpyeong series developed on gently sloping to rolling relief on dissected old paddiplains and terraces. This soil has dark brown silty clay loam A horizons, very thick dark red to red silty clay or clay Bt horizons, and C horizons of old alluvial materials frequently with strongly weathered round cobbles and pebbles. It is strongly acid with a low organic matter content, relatively low in cation exchange capacity, but with relatively high base-status based on amount of extractable cations. There is no obvious changes in particle size distribution with depth and textural B horizons probably have not been formed by podzolization but formed by mechanical movement of clay. This soil is classified as Typic Hapludalfs in USDA 7th approximation and Brunic Luvisols in FAO classification system.
Recently, it has been increasing trend to use conductive materials as electronics and communication technology in electronics industry are developing. The noble metal such as Ag, Pt, Pd etc. are mostly used as conductive materials, To reduce production cost, alternative materials with similar characteristics of noble metals are needed. Copper has advantages, i.e its electronic properties are similar to noble metals and low cost than noble metal, but its use has been restricted because of oxidation in air. In this study, the tin film was coated on copper by electroless plating to protect copper from oxidation and to confirm the effects of temperature, pH, amount of $SnCl_2$, and feeding speed in plating conditions. Additionally, we apply $Cu_{core}Sn_{shell}$ powder as conductive filler with low-temperature densification and analysis by SEM, XRD, FIB and 4-Point Probe techniques. As result of the study, tin film was coated well on copper and was protected from oxidation. After low-temperature densification treatment, the meted tin made chemical interconnections with copper. Accordingly, conductivity was increased than before condition. We hope $Cu_{core}Sn_{shell}$ powder to replace noble metals and use in the electronic field.

Black polymer spacers are currently used for physically separating aligned camera lenses in camera modules of mobile phones. However, the mechanical properties of polymer spacers have their limits, especially in the current trend of using more lenses in thinner camera modules. Thus, copper (Cu) becomes a good candidate for those polymer spacers because of its superior mechanical properties and its inherent blackness due to its black surfaced oxides, such as copper (II) oxide (cupric oxide, CuO). The latter property is critical in quality control because the closer the color of a spacer is to black, the less light interference and flaring phenomena can occur. A standard Cu blackening process and its operational conditions were proposed in this study through a comprehensive analysis of previous research and patents. The Cu blackening process is composed of cleaning, deoxidizing, activating, blackening and sealing. The effects of operational parameters, such as the temperature of each unit process and the activator concentration, were then investigated by measuring the blackness of the Cu strips with a colorimeter. The proposed operational conditions were determined by whether the blackness of Cu strips was within the on-spec. value used in the field.
The author fractographically analyized the cause of metal failure(the first time this procedure has been used for this metal failure)and also analyized it clinically. In this study, I selected eight cases which have been analyized fractographically. In all these cases, the analysis was done after treatment of metal failure of implants internally fixed to femur shaft fractures at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Yeung-Nam University Hospital during the six year period from May 1983 to September 1989. 1. Metal failure occured in five dynamic-compression plates, one Jewett nail, one screw in Rowe plate, and one interlocking nail. 2. The clinical cause of metal failure was deficiency of medial butress in five cases, incorrect position of implant in one case, and incorrect selection of implant in two cases. 3. The time interval between internal fixation and metal failure was four months in one case, between five months to twelve months in six cases, three years in one case. 4. The fractographically analytical cause of metal failure was ; first, impact failure, one case, second, fatigue failure, six cases, machining mark(stress liser), four cases type : low consistent cyclic fatigue failure irregular cyclic fatigue failure third, stress corrosion crack, one case. 5. 316L Stainless Steel has good resistance to corrosion. However, when its peculiar surface film is destroyed by fretting, it shows pitting corrosion. This is, perhaps, the main cause of metal failure. 6. It is possible that mechanical injury occured in implants during the manufacturing of implants or that making a screw hole is the main cause of metal failure.
The morphological, physical, chemical, and mineralogical characteristics of planosols in Korea were studied in an effort to establish the suitabilition of the planosols for agricultural development. The Yeongog series which are planosols were established in Korea. Results from the Yeongog series are briefly as follows : 1. Morphologically, the surface soils are brown to dark brown friable loam and subsoils are of varied colors but mainly are dark brown, black and pale brown mottles. The texture of these horizons are silty clay loam with moderate to strong platy structure and clay cutans are on the ped faces. The consistences of these horizons are extremely compact and hard when moist and sticky, plastic when wet. The substrata show varied soil colors and loam to clay loam. 2. Physically, the clay content of the Yeongog soils is highest in the subsoils and gradually decreases below the subsoils. Water holding capacity and bulk desity is higher than in other mineral soils. 3. Chemically, the organic matter content is low and soil reaction ranges from very strongly to strongly acid. The cation exchange capacity is medium and base saturation a high. Active iron, easily reducible manganese and available silicate are high compared with normal soils. 4. In chemical composition of clay fraction of the Yeongog series, sesquioxide ratio, $Fe_2O_3$, $K_2O$ and MgO are high. The cation exchange capacity of the clay fraction is also very high. 5. The clay minerals in Yeongog series are mainly kaoline, vermiculite with Al interlayers and illite. The quarts, primary minerals are in the Yeongog soils. 6. These soils are formed in a warm, humid climate under native grasses on the terraces and rolling or hilly footslopes. In soil classification, the Yeongog soils are classified planosols with claypan. According to 7th approximation system in U.S.A., the Yeongog series are classified as Fragiudalfs because they have an argillic horizon, a hard pan and a high base saturation which is more than 35 percent and classified as Eutric Planosols by FAO/UNESCO classification system.
This study was performed to investigate the effect of immediate orthodontic force on soft md hard tissues surrounding C-Palatal $Plate^{TM}$ in beagle Dog. Immediately after this appliance was implanted on the midpalate of 4 adult beagle Dogs, 400gm continuous orthodontic force was applied. Experimental animals were euthanized at 8weeks, 18weeks, and 22weeks (including post-removal healing time of 4weeks), and a control animal was euthanized at 8weeks after implantation without orthodontic force application. The appliance and the surrounding tissue were studied radiographically, macroscopically, and histologically. The results were as follows: 1. The lateral radiographs taken after euthanasia showed very slight displacement of the vortical plate in the experimental animals, compared with the control animal. Mobility test of all animals confirmed primary stability without any increase of mobility during experimental period. 2. No pathologic changes were found in the healing condition of covering soft tissue and bone-screw interface in experimental animals as well as a control animal. 3. Osseointegration was achieved in the bone-screw interface in 8weeks after implantation and the amount of osseointegration increased in 18weeks. There was little difference of osseointegration between the compression side and the tension side. 4. In the marginal bone area, slight bone apposition and resorption were found regardless of compression and tension side, while there was no change in the control animal. 5. Both 8week-animal and 18week-animal showed the new bone apposition along the surface of screws which were perforated into the nasal cavity, while the control animal showed no change. 6. After 4weeks of plate removal, the covering epithelium was repaired intactly, while the connective tissue showed loose and irregular rearrangement and the connective tissue capsule remained. The C-Palatal $Plate^{TM}$ manifested sufficient anchorage capacity in the context of histological study as well as clinical outcomes, when immediate orthodontic force was applied after implantation.
This study examined the morphological, physical and chemical characteristics of the Yesan and the Songjeong series derived from residuum of the granite developed on gently sloping to rolling relief in Honam reclamable land Area. The results of this study are summarized as follows. 1. The morphological characteristics. In the Yesan series, the surface soils(Ap horizons) are brown to dark brown sandy loam. The subsoils(B horizons) are yellowish red to red sandy clay loam to sandy loam and the soil profile development is weak. The Songjeong series, the surface soils (Ap horizons) are washed by erosion, so the subsoils are revealed on the surface, and these are dark red silty clay loam. The subsoils (B horizons) are red silty clay loam and thin clay cutans are formed on the ped faces of the structure. The substrata of two soil series are deeply weathered granitic saprolite. 2. The physical and chemical characteristics. The distribution of clay content tends to increase from surfaces to subsoils with depth gradually. On the Yesan series, the content of clay is less than 18%, soil pH (6.0 in the surface-soil, 4.5-5.0 in the subsoil), the content of organic matter (1.8% in the surface soil, 0.1~0.4% in the subsoil), available phosphate (40 ppm), the cation exchange capacity(4~8 me/100 gr) are very low, and the base saturation (57.8% in the surface soil, 46.3% in the subsoil) is moderate. On the Songjeong series, the content of clay is 30~40%, pH (5.7-6.0), the content of in organic matter (1.25% in the surface soil, 0.1~0.4% in the subsoil), available phosphate(4 ppm), the cation exchange capacity(6.2 me/100 gr in the surface soil, 2~6 me/100gr in the subsoil) are very low, and the base saturation(28.1% in the surfacesoil, 16~23% in the subsoil) is also low. 3. The Yesan and Songjeong series are for med under a temperate humid climate, and classified as Red Yellow Soils in the old classification system. According to U.S.D.A. 7th approximation the former belongs to Typic Dystrochrepts in Inceptisols, and the latter, Typic Hapludults in Ultisols.

The objective of the study was to apply the vibration technique to reduce the viscosity of bonding adhesives and thereby compare the bond strength and resin penetration into dentinal tubules achieved with those gained using the conventional technique. Eighty-eight noncarious extracted human permanent molar teeth were sectioned to remove the coronal enamel and were embedded in 1-inch PVC pipe with acrylic resin. The occlusal surfaces were placed so that the tooth and the embedding medium were at the same level to form one flat surface, and the samples were subsequently polished with silicon carbide abrasive papers. The samples were randomly assigned to 4 groups(n=22). On Group 1 and 2, Single Bond(3M-ESPE, St. Paul, USA) was used, and on Group 3 and 4, One-Step(Bisco Inc., Schaumburg, USA) was used, and each was applied according to its manufacturer's instructions. For Group 2 and Group 4, vibration was applied with ultrasonic scaler for 10 seconds, and the adhesive was light-cured for 10 seconds. Resin composite was condensed on to the prepared surface in two increments using a mold kit(Ultradent Products Inc., USA) and each was light-cured for 40 seconds. After 24 hours in tap water at room temperature the specimens were thermocycled, and shear bond strengths were measured with a universal testing machine(Instron 4465, Canton, USA). To investigate infiltration patterns of the adhesive materials, the surface of specimen was examined with scanning electron microscope. The results were as follows. 1. The shear bond strengths of vibration groups(Group 2, Group 4) were significantly greater than those of the non-vibration groups(Group 1, Group 3)(p<0.05). 2. The shear bond strengths of Single Bond and One-Step were not significantly different (p>0.05). 3. The vibration groups showed greater number of resin tags in tubules and lateral branches under SEM.

The lacrimal gland are compound tubule-acinar glands. The main lacrimal function is the production of the aqueous layer, the thickest and major constituent of the precorneal tear film. The lacrimal gland also has an important function in the defense system of the ocular surface, forming a part of the conjunctival-associated hymphoid tissue. The ultrastructural characteristics of the lacrimal gland of the rabbit were described. The lacrimal tissues of rabbits were processed through the conventional techniques for transmission electron microscopy. The secretory portions consisted of three cell types: 1. Serous cells with electron dense secretory granules. 2. Seromucous cells containing variable moderately electron dense secretory granules with flocculent material. 3. Mucous rolls containing mucous secretory granules. The serous cells were situated at the basal portion of acini, and they contained electron dense granules of variable densities and sizes. The seromucous cells contained a few protein secretory granules and more mucous secretory granules. The mucous cells contained even fewer protein secretory granules and exclusively mucous secretory granules. The epithelium of the intralobular ducts showed secretory granules, junctional complexes, and large basolateral intercellular spaces with lateral folds. These study might be helpful in determining inter-relationships, similarities and differences among the orbital glands of various physiological or pathological conditions.
