Synthesis and Permeability of Cationic Polycarbonate-Polyurethane (양이온성 폴리카보네이트-폴리우레탄의 합성과 분리특성)

  • Cationic polycarbonate type polyurethane was prepared from the quaternization reaction of N-methyldiethanolamine(MDEA) in urethane backbone which was obtained from the reaction of polycarbonate polyol, MDI and MDEA(chain exetender). Tensile strength and modulus of the cationic urethane resins were increased sharply with increasing the ionic content in urethane backbone. But hydrolysis resistance was decreased with increasing ionic contents. The selectivity of the cationic polycabonate urethane membrane for water/ethanol separation by pervaporation was about 20. The carrier mediated transport mechanism was considered the most probable separation mechanism for these membranes.

Optimization of an Injection Molding Process for Polycarbonate Car Switch Buttons Using the Taguchi Method (실험계획법에 의한 폴리카보네이트 차량 스위치 버튼의 사출성형공정 최적화)

  • The quality of polymeric automotive parts depends highly on an injection molding process, which causes various defects, such as warpage, sink marks, weld lines, shrinkage, residual stress, etc. This study is to determine the optimum processing parameters, such as packing pressure, mold temperature, melting temperature, and packing time for the manufacture of polycarbonate buttons in cars on the basis of FEM, the Taguchi method, and analysis of variance (ANOVA). As a result, the optimum processing parameters of buttons made of polycarbonate material were obtained as follows: 140 MPa of packing pressure, $105^{\circ}C$ of mold temperature, $292.5^{\circ}C$ of melting temperature and 1 second of packing time. A gain of S/N (signal to noise) ratio, 10.2, was obtained with the optimum values. Moreover, the melting temperature was found to be the most significant factor followed by the mold temperature.

Prediction of Mechanical Property of Glass Fiber Reinforced Polycarbonate and Evaluation of Warpage through Injection Molding (유리섬유로 강화된 폴리카보네이트의 기계적 물성예측 및 사출성형을 통한 휨의 평가)

  • Most plastics products are being produced by injection molding process. However, mold shrinkage is inevitable in injection molding process and it deteriorates dimensional quality through deflections and warpages. Mold shrinkage depends upon the material property of resin as well as injection molding condition. In this study, material property of resin has been predicted for glass fiber reinforced polycarbonate to control the warpage, and computer simulation of injection molding has been performed using predicted property. It was observed that the deflection of part decreased by the glass fiber reinforced resin. In order to verify the validity of this method and confidence of results, experiments of injection molding were performed. The results of experiments and computer simulations showed good agreement in their tendency of deflections. Consequently, it was concluded that the method of designing the material property of resin conducted in this study can be utilized to control the dimensional accuracy of injection molded products.

  • Waterborne polyurethanes (WPU) was synthesized using polyester polyol and polycarbonate polyol containing 3-Methyl-1,5-pentanediol (MPD) in a branched structure. To compare physical properties, WPUs were synthesized using polyester polyol obtained from 1,4-butanediol (BD) and adipic acid and polycarbonate polyol obtained from 1,6-hexane diol (HD)/ 1,4-butanediol (BD). This study investigated the effect of polyol molecular structure (molecular structure in soft segments) on the physical properties of WPUs. In the case of WPUs synthesized using polyols containing MPD, 100% modulus and tensile strength were lower than that without MPD, and elongation was higher. The transparency of WPU films with MPD were slightly better than WPU films without MPD.

  • The optical elements made of plastics are normally produced by mass production such as injection molding with use of precision dies and molds. It costs to prepare the dies and molds, and it is only justified to prepare such expensive dies and molds when the parts are massively produced. On the other hand, it is too expensive and inefficient when precision plastic parts are needed only in small quantities, such as a case of trial manufacturing of new products. An ultra-precision diamond cutting is one of promising processes to produce the precision plastic parts in such cases. But it is commonly believed that an ultra-precision cutting of plastics for optical components is very difficult, because they are thermo-plastic material. In the present research, an ultra-precision diamond cutting of polycarbonate (PC), that is one of typical optical materials, was tried by using elliptical vibration cutting method. It is experimentally proved that good optical surfaces were obtained by using elliptical vibration cutting in cases of grooving and flat surfaces. The maximum surface roughness of less than 60 nm in peak to valley value is acquired.

  • The aspherical lens are used as objective lens of optical pickup. The sample product is made before manufacturing the injection mould of lens to examine the design factor. The optimum cutting conditions of the main spindle speed, the depth of cut, the feed rate are found when we cut PMMA and PC lens sample with ultra-precision SPDT. The demanded surface roughness 10 nm Ra. aspherical form error 0.5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ P-V for aspherical lens of optical data storage device are satisfied for PMMA. but not satisfied for PC.

  • Waterborne polyurethanes (WPUs) based on isophorone diisocyanate and mixed polyols of poly(tetramethylene glycol) (PTMG)/polycarbonate diol (PCD) were synthesized. The variation of mechanical and dyeing properties and alkali resistance of the WPU films were analyzed according to the polycarbonate (PC) content. The tensile strength of the films increased and the elongation at break decreased with the PC content in the WPU film. The incorporation of PC component in the WPU film did not affect the alkaline hydrolysis behavior. The synthesized WPU solutions were used as impregnating resins for the production of PET artificial leathers. The prepared WPU resins showed the good color fastness to washing, rubbing, and light of the artificial leather fabrics. The improvement of the properties became greater with the PC content in the WPU resin.

열유도 상분리 공정 및 연신 공정을 이용한 중공사막의 제조

  • 1. 서론 : 열유도 상분리법(TIPS)은 일반적으로 상온에서 적정용매가 없는 고분자 소재를 아용하여 고분자-희석제 2성분계의 혼합물을 적절한 냉각 속도로 상분리 온도 이하로 급냉시켜 연속상과 분산상의 상분리를 일으킨 후 matrix전체에 다공성을 부여하여 분리막을 제조하는 공정이다. 폴리올레핀계 고분자를 중심으로 나일론11. 폴리카보네이트, PVC, ABS 수지 등을 소재로 plasmapheresis, 인공심폐기, breathing wear 등의 용도로 많이 응용되어 왔으며 현재 한외여과나 정밀여과 등 수투과 공정 및 battery separator 등으로의 응용이 활발하게 연구되고 있다. TIPS공정에 의해 제조된 고분자 분리막은 기존의 분리막에 비해 내열성 및 내약품성이 우수하며 여러 가지 다양한 변수로 부터 막의 미세구조를 조절할 수 있어 기공의 크기 및 모양이 조절 가능하다. 본 연구에서는 TIPS 공정을 이용한 고분자 분리막의 제조시 take-up speed와 air gap 등을 변화시켜 이에 따른 영향을 조사하였고 또한 cold stretching에 의한 구조변화를 알아보았다.
