A Study on Residual Amounts of Vinyl Chloride/Vinylidene Chloride in Poly(vinyl chloride)/Poly(vinylidene chloride) Food Packaging using Headspace GC/MS (헤드스페이스 GC/MS를 이용한 폴리염화비닐/폴리염화비닐리덴 식품 포장 중 염화비닐/염화비닐리덴 잔류량 연구)

  • Vinyl chloride (VC) and vinylidene chloride (VDC), which may be present in poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) and poly(vinylidene chloride) (PVDC) food packaging, were analyzed by using a headspace-gas chromatograph (GC)/mass spectrometer (MS) equipped with a PLOT Q column. 1-Chloropropane (1-CP) was used as an internal standard. The determinations of VC and VDC were carried out by monitoring the characteristic ions for each compound: m/z=61, 62, 64 and m/z=61, 96, 98, respectively. The method validated in this study can be suitable for the compliance test of EU regulation. Among 103 food packaging samples, VC and VDC were not detected, except in one PVDC food package. However, the detected level of VDC in the sample was below the EU regulatory specific limitation.

  • Quantitative analysis of silver from the thermal decomposition of chlorinated polymer contained nano silver is described. The chlorine contained in the chlorinated polymer (e.g. PVC) is liberated as hydrochloric acid gas by heating and a lot of silver produces AgCl. $HNO_3$ and $NH_4OH$ were used for dissolving the Ag and the AgCl. The silver complex was formed by $NH_4OH$. Then the complex was decomposed to silver by heating at $500^{\circ}C$ and the Ag was dissolved by dilute $HNO_3$. Recovery of silver in PVC material was 99.0%.

  • The industrialization and urbanization forced to increase the density of pipelines such as water supply, sewers, and gas pipelines. The materials used for the existing pipe lines are mostly composed of concretes and steels, but it is true that the development for more durable and efficient materials has been continued performed to produce long lasting pipe lines. Recently, underground pipes serve in diverse applications such as sewer lines, drain lines, water mains, gas lines, telephone and electrical conduits, culverts, oil lines, etc. In this paper, we present the result of investigation pertaining to the structural behavior of unplasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVC-U) flexible pipes buried underground. In the investigation of structural behavior such as a ring deflection, pipe stiffness, 4-point bending test, experimental and analytical studies are conducted. In addition, pipe stiffness is determined by the parallel plate loading tests and the finite element analysis. The difference between test and analysis is about 8% although there are significant variations in the mechanical properties of the pipe material. In addition, it was found by the 4-point bending test there is no problem in the connection between the pipes by coupler.

  • 지식경제부 기술표준원이 수도관, 오 배수관, 토목용 하수관으로 광범위하게 사용되는 PVC(폴리염화비닐)관의 품질과 위생기준을 강화해 지난 해 7월 1일부터 납 안정제와 가소제 등의 사용을 금지하고, 위생성 및 장기내구성 등의 품질기준이 강화된 흰색 PVC관을 상 하수도관으로 사용토록 했으나 아직도 이를 제조하거나 시공하고 있어 주의를 촉구하고 나섰다. 이에 따라 PVC관을 수도관, 오 배수관으로 시공하고 있는 설비건설업계의 주의가 요망된다.

Dehydrochlorination Behavior of Pure PVC Powder (純 PVC 粉말의 脫懇化수f素 擧動)

  • The PVC powder was treated at $200~250^{\circ}C$, in 0~2 M NaOH solutions for 0~5 h to study the kinetics of dehydrochlorination. In the case of water, the dehydrochlorination of PVC powder proceeded by the zero order reaction with X(the degree of dehydrochlorination), and the apparent activation energy was about 46 kcal/mol. The rate of dehydrochlorination increased with con-centration to 0.5 M NaOH, and proceeded by the first order reaction with X. And, the kinetics of dehydrochlorination was almost equal above 0.5 M NaOH. The apparent activation energies of dehydrochlorination in 0.1 M and 0.5 M NaOH was about 46 kcal/mol, respectively.

  • The heat treatment of PVC film containing PVC 65ft, DOP (Dioctyl Phthalate) 32% as plasticizer, Ca-Zn stearates and sur-face agent was performed under several conditions to study the dehydrochlorination of PVC and char production. In the case of $H_2$ $SO_4$, the dehydrochlorination was ca.100% at $250^{\circ}C$ for 3h. The char involving the smaller pores was produced with hydro-thermal treatment. The pore size became small with increasing the treatment time and temperature. In the case of treatment with $Ca(OH)_2$, the sizes of pores produced in char were about sever ~10 $\mu\textrm{m}$ at$ 225^{\circ}C$ for 12h. In the case of $_2$$SO_4$, the size of pores were about 1 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in 5M $_H2$$SO_4$for 12h.

Study on Adhesive Properties by Hot-air Welding of Polyvinyl Chloride Waterproof Sheet Using used vinyl & used cable in Rural Area (농촌의 폐비닐과 폐전선을 활용한 폴리염화비닐 방수시트의 열풍용착에 의한 접착특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, we have intended to provide the related construction manuals with technical materials and to reduce the defects in the on-site construction, with reviewing the adhesive properties of joint parts according to change of temperature and speed of hot-air sealer for the products that have been made of polyvinyl chloride(PVC) materials in the single waterproof sheet. The result from the experiment is shown as following. 1) Bond strength was shown as high as the welding speed became slower. For the hot-air welding velocity with 3~6m/min, a stable bond strength has been shown in the range of the hot-air welding temperature with $175{\sim}210^{\circ}C$, while it has been shown in the range of the hot-air welding temperature with $210^{\circ}C$, when the hot-air welding velocity is between 9~12m/min. 2) If the hot-air welding temperature is lower, the adhesive strength has been shown as higher in the section where the hot-air welding velocity is low, while the adhesive strength has been also shown as higher in the section where the velocity is fast as the hot-air welding temperature becomes higher. The highest bond strength has been shown in the velocity with 3m/min for the hot-air welding temperature with $140{\pm}10^{\circ}C$, which is rather low. At $175{\pm}10^{\circ}C$, a high bond strength has been shown in the velocity with 3~6m/min, while the high bond strength has been shown in the velocity with 6~9m/min at $210{\pm}10^{\circ}C$.

Preparation of PVC-LMO Beads Using Dimethyl Sulfoxide Solvent and Adsorption Characteristics of Lithium Ions (다이메틸설폭시화물 용매를 사용한 PVC-LMO 비드의 제조와 리튬 이온 흡착 특성)

  • In this study, PVC-LMO beads were prepared by immobilizing lithium manganese oxide (LMO) with poly vinyl chloride (PVC) diluted in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) solvent on behalf of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP). XRD analysis confirmed that LMO was immobilized well in PVC-LMO beads. The diameter of PVC-LMO beads synthesized by DMSO was about 4 mm. The adsorption experiments of lithium ions by PVC-LMO beads were conducted batchwise. The maximum adsorption capacity obtained from Langmuir model was 21.31 mg/g. The adsorption characteristics of lithium ions by PVC-LMO beads was well described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. It was considered that the internal diffusion was the rate controlling step.

Studies on Durability and Polarization Properties of Poly(vinyl alcohol) Polarizing Films Prepared with Reactive Dichroic Dyes (반응성 이색성 염료를 사용하여 제조한 폴리(비닐 알코올) 편광필름의 내구성 및 편광특성에 관한 연구)

  • Three reactive dichroic dyes with 3,5-dichloro-2,4,6-triazine moiety were synthesized by reaction between dichroic dyes (such as congo red, direct black 22 or direct black 4) and cyanuric chloride. Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) films were dyed with the obtained three reactive dichroic dyes. After 400% drawing of the PVA films, their optical properties were compared with an iodine-doped PVA film prepared in the same condition. Durability test was performed at $50^{\circ}C$ in 85% of relative humidity for 120 hrs. We found that compared with the iodine-doped PVA polarizing film, the relative durability of the PVA polarizing film dyed with the reactive dichroic dyes was greatly improved.

  • Poly (vinyl chloride) was blended with blended with vinyl chloride-acrylonitrile copolymers (MO-01 : M$\sub$w/=199049, AN=22.79%, MO-02 : M$\sub$w/=238523, AN=47.03%, MO-03 : M$\sub$w/=289496, AN=52.49%, MO-04 : M$\sub$w/=341837, AN=58.68% by mixing dimethylformamide (DMF) solution of each polymer and their morphology, viscosity, viscoelastic and mechanical properties were studied. Blends of PVC and MO-01 showed a homogeneous morphology. On the contrary, the other copolymer blends showed a large phase separation with spherical domains. Miscibility of blends of PVC and MO-01 was shown to be better than that of blends of other copolymers from morphological and viscoelastic studies. Even though blends of PVC and MO-01 were observed to be the considerable compatibility at a composition of PVC/MO-01=90/10, the mechanical properties of blend films were not improved too much in most blend cases.
