Effects of Polyethylene Net Barrier on the Control of Aphid - borne Potato Virus Y in Tobacco (폴리에칠렌 차단망 설치에 의한 연초의 진딧물 전염 PVY 방제효과)

  • Potato virus Y (PVY) is an important viral disease in burley tobacco in Korea and is mostly transmitted by green peach aphid, Myzus penicae, in nature. Effects of barrier nets on the immigration of the aphid population into tobacco fields and on the control of PVY were investigated in 3 tobacco fields with 1.8 m - height polyethylene (PE) nets on their outer - sides in Iseo - Myeon, Wanju - Kun, Cheonbuk. Immigration of aphids to the tobacco yields started at late April and reached maximum at early June. The immigrating aphid population was apparently blocked by the barrier nets to be reduced by 54-73%. PVY severity was also reduced by the barrier nets. However, the control value was variable, ranging 24-67%, which suggests that effect of the PE net barrier on the prevention of aphid-borne virus might be variable depending on the location and slope of the fields.

  • DUPIC 공정은 재처리공정과는 달리 공정의 전ㆍ후를 통하여 사용후핵연료의 양이 변하지 않기 때문에 시설이 원활히 운전되기 위해서는 사용후핵연료가 결손 또는 전용되지 않았음을 증명할 수 있어야 한다. 따라서, 핵투명성(nuclear transparency)을 보장할 수 있는 DUPIC 핵연료 보장조치용 비파괴측정 장치의 개발이 요구되었으며 $^3$He tube, 폴리에칠렌(CH$_2$)감속재, 텅스텐 차폐체 그리고 PSR(portable shift register) 등으로 구성된 측정 시스템을 제작하였다. 본 장치를 사용하여 사용후핵연료에서 검출되는 중성자중에서, $^{244}$ Cm의 자발핵분열중성자 수를 분석할 수 있으며 이를 이용하여 사용후핵연료를 계량관리 할 수 있다. 현재 측정시스템에 대한 성능시험등을 수행하고 있는 중이며 향후 DUPIC 연구용 고준위방사성물질취급시설(hot-cell)에 설치할 예정이다.

Studios on the Thermal Properties of Silane Crosslinked Polyethylene Prepared by Various Crosslinking Conditions (Silane 가교 PE의 가교조건에 따른 열적특성 변화에 관한 연구)

  • The silane crosslinking method was applied for the crosslinking of polyethylene (PE). Crosslinking of PE was performed by, first grafting vinyltrimethoxysilane(VTMOS) to the main chain of PE using an extruder at $200{\sim}210^{\circ}C$, followed by exposure to three different silane crosslinking conditions (1. immersed in $80^{\circ}C$ water, 2. at $80^{\circ}C$ air forced convection oven, 3. exposed to air at room temperature ). The thermal characteristic changes of PE resins with respect to the silane crosslinking conditions were studied by measuring the crystalline melting temperature, density and crosslinking reaction rate. Because silane crosslinking was carried out at solid state, crystalline melting temperature, crystallinity, crystal growth rate, crosslinking reaction rate and the change in the density of silane crosslinked PE were affected by crosslinking condition and the type of base resin. The properties of silane crosslinked PE were different from those of Peroxide crosslinked PE which was crosslinked at the molten state. It was found, from the result of DSC analysis, that silane crosslinked linear low density polyethylene(LLDPE) crosslinked at room temperature had no secondary melting peak because the crosslinking reaction proceeds slowly as the crystalline grows. After crystallization, the melting point of PE was lowered by crystalline interruption of crosslinked site.

  • The properties of polyethylene materials exhibit good insulation and radiation resistance, but exhibit poor flame resistance. Flame retardant properties of the polyethylene were improved by the radiation induced grafting or crosslinking. When the various flame retardants were fixed onto polyethylene, the amount of fixation in grafting was increased with the increase of radiation dosages. In the case of grafting, it is necessary for high grafting yield that the polyethylene films were swelled before irradiation with ${\gamma}$-rays or electron beams. It is the suitable method for the fixation of flame retardant that polyethylene samples were blended with various flame retardants at 1$25^{\circ}C$ and then blended polymers were crosslinked by the electron beams at room temperature.

  • Storage quality dried persimmons was evaluated by 5 scale scoring hedonic sensory analysis in various packaging methods and materials. Dried persimmons were deteriorated within 1 months of storage in polyethyene(PE, 0.08mm) and 1.5-2.5 months in nylon(PA/PE, 0.1mm) packages at room temperature, But those were kept good quality for 5 months of storage in PA/PE package and for 8 months in $CO_2$ or $N_2$ gas filled polyester/aluminum/casteded polypropylene(PET/Al./CPP, 0.1mm) package at $5^{\circ}C$. Dried persimmon had the best quality in water content of 37% and at humidity 75% and its shelf-life was noticialy prolonged by low temperature.

  • The objective of this work is to investigate the effect of molecular weight of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and release medium on the release of nifedipine (NP) from PEO tablets containing NP and to get some mechanistic insights into the release of NP. The tablets containing NP were prepared by direct compression, using a flat-faced punch and die. The molecular weights of PEOs used were 200K, 900K, 2000K and 7,000K. The release kinetics were studied for 24 hours in aqueous ethanol solution, using a dissolution tester at $36.5^{\circ}C$ and 100 rpm. Drug release rate increased, as the concentration of ethanol in the dissolution medium increased, due to the increased solubility of NP. As the molecular weight of PEO increased, release rate decreased, due to the slower swelling and dissolution of PEO. The power values obtained by fitting data to the power law expression $(M_t/M_{\infty}=kt^n)$ indicated that, at low ethanol concentration, the release of NP is governed by anomalous diffusion. However, as the ethanol concentration increases, diffusional release becomes to prevail over anomalous or zero-order release. Overall, these results provided some insights into the release of NP from PEO tablet.

  • In this paper, we researched the dielectric properties and voltage dependence on slice XLPE sheet from 22[kV] and 154[kV] power cable. studied effect for impurities and water for semiconductive shied through a dielectric properties experiment to estimate performance of insulating material in power cable. Capacitance and $tan{\delta}$ of 22[kV], 154[kV] were 52/42 pF and $7.4{\times}10^{-4}$, $2.1510^{-4}$, respectively. In these results, the trend was increased with the increase of temperature. The $tan{\delta}$ of XLPE/semiconductive layer and XLPE/water/semiconductive layer were increased as compared with that of XLPE. dielectric properties reliability of $tan{\delta}$ was small.

  • The release of angiotensin and ${\alpha}-amylase$ from monolithic devices of different molecular weight of polyethylene glycol (PEC) grafted polyurethane copolymer was investigated. Water-soluble PEG grafted polymer provided a controlled release of angiotensin and ${\alpha}-amylase$. The release rate of angiotensin and ${\alpha}-amylase$ could be controlled by varying the molecular weight of PEC grafted. The release mechanism may be associated with the creation of pore or domain through the devices following the gel swelling and self-aggregation by PEC grafted polymer. Hydrophobic polyurethane grafted with PEG can provide a biomaterial for prolonged release of angiotensin and ${\alpha}-amylase$ from angiotensin and ${\alpha}-amylase$ blended system.

  • Effects of ethylene-propylene diene monomer (EPDM)/polypropylene (PP), zinc oxide, stearic acid, and clay on the combustive properties based on EDPM/PP were investigated. The EDPM/PP/clay nanocomposites was compounded to prepare specimen for combustive analysis by cone calorimeter (ISO 5660-1). It was found that the specific mass loss rate (SMLR) in the nanocomposites decreased due to the fire resistance compared with unfilled EDPM/PP, while the nanocomposites showed the higher total heat release (THR), higher CO production release, and higher specific extinction area (SEA) than those of virgin EPDM/PP. The stearic acid for softening ruber increased the THR and amount of smoke by itself, combustible.

  • This paper was evaluated dielectric characteristics and temperature dependency in the XLPE with and without void. Each dielectric loss was $3.5{\times}10^{-4}$(%) and a little decreased with temperature's increase. Capacitance presented a contant value. According as the study is obtained results, loss in the XLPE increased in proportion to square of applied voltage. As a result of the study, it was knowed that dielectric characteristics had a great deal to do with degradation in the high voltage dielectric materials.
