  • Two species, Daulia afralis Walker and Herpetogramma cynaralis Walker, belonging to the family Crambidae, Lepdidoptera, are reported for the first time from Korea, based on the materials collected from Jeju Islands located in the southern part of the Korean peninsula. Both male and female genitalia were dissected and examined. Also, the photos of the external morphology, including the wing patterns, and genitalic characteristics of the two species are taken and redescribed briefly, including distributional ranges and available information. Taxonomic information and synonymies for the species were given and discussed.

  • An artificial diet containing wheat germ, soybean, corn, yeast, sucrose, casein, cholesterol, 𝛽-sitosterol, and dry Miscanthus sacchariflorus stem powder was developed for rearing Chilo suppressalis (Crambidae) larvae. Neonate larvae were individually raised on the diet till adult emergence at 25℃ and 15:9 h light:dark photoperiod. In the results, the pupation and the emergence rates were 82.2% and 98.6%, respectively. The mean developmental periods of female and male larvae were 34.6 days and 31.0 days, respectively, whereas the pupal periods of female and male were 8.9 days and 9.7 days, respectively. Those periods were significantly different between genders. The mean pupal weights of female and male were 75.0 mg and 57.0 mg, respectively, with significant difference.

  • Turfgrass insect pests were investigated in different turf sod production areas of Korea. Twelve insect pest species of 7 families in 6 orders and one Eriophyidae mite, Aceria zoysiae were collected from turf sod production areas. The zoysiagrass mite was most frequently occurred zoysiagrass sod production areas. Damaged rate by zoysiagrass mite was increased from May to September. Noctuidae (Spodoptera depravata, Agrotis ipsilon and A. segetum) and Pyralidae (Crambus sp.) insect pests in Lepidoptera were attracted in A. ipsilon sex pheromone trap. Eggs and larva of A. ipsilon was the highest occurred August. Zoysiagrass mite and A. ipsilon were main insect pests in turf sod production areas in Korea.
