  • In recent days, as the efficiency of electronic home applications become higher, that of the driving AC motor become higher. On this reason, the demand fir high capacity coil firming machine is increasing. Since the coil forming is not simply related with the only capacity of hydraulic cylinder, the development of a newer coil firming machine which has new filming mechanism new driving method, new filming tool, and new specification is required. In this paper, the virtual prototype which have new mechanism is developed. This prototype is tested and experimented on PC with the same condition as actual. The results from the virtual experiment is applied to the actual design process.

  • Roll forming technology has a problem in that it depends only on experience without accurate data in the actual field. To solve this problem, it is necessary to procure accurate data during the roll forming process. To this end, we determined the operating force and the material thickness by implementing several changes to those variables during an experiment. This study compares the FEA results and experimental results. Experimental results were used for the basic data of the design. The FEA results show that the roll forming machine is operating accurately and safely. And, a comparison of the results shows that the design of the automatic roll forming machine is operating in the right way. This design of an automatic roll forming machine will be helpful for many areas of the industry.

  • The roll forming machines currently used in industries require manual change of individual rolls taking 30 to 60 minutes of operation shutdown, This in turn reduces the operational efficiency by considerable margin and has one of the major negative effect on the overall productivity. To improve the operational efficiency of the existing roll forming machine, current manual roll changing process needs automatation to save considerable amount of time. In this study, TRIZ is adopted in the development of new roll forming machine. The Ideal Final Result (IFR) was set up initially and the fundamental causes were examined by Root Cause Analysis. The final proposed concept was drawn from the application of 40 invention principles of TRIZ.

A study on Press Forming Machine of Titanium and Aluminium Plates Formability (프레스 포밍 머신의 티타늄과 알루미늄 판재 성형성에 관한 연구)

  • Main function of the Press forming Machine is the forming for plates. The head of the Press forming machine consist of several parts. It was named Press forming-contraction and Press forming_expansion according to formability of plates. Aluminium and Titanum plates are forming by using the Press forming machine. In this study, we analyzed sheet metal forming including plastic deformation and the contact pressure in the bearing. Finite element analysis results of Press forming-contraction and Press forming_expansion show the similar results of the actual specimen plates and the bearing contact pressures show the acceptable level of stress in both aluminum and titanium specimens.

Application of Machine Learning to Predict Web-warping in Flexible Roll Forming Process (머신러닝을 활용한 가변 롤포밍 공정 web-warping 예측모델 개발)

  • Flexible roll forming is an advanced sheet-metal-forming process that allows the production of parts with various cross-sections. During the flexible process, material is subjected to three-dimensional deformation such as transverse bending, inhomogeneous elongations, or contraction. Because of the effects of process variables on the quality of the roll-formed products, the approaches used to investigate the roll-forming process have been largely dependent on experience and trial- and-error methods. Web-warping is one of the major shape defects encountered in flexible roll forming. In this study, an SVR model was developed to predict the web-warping during the flexible roll forming process. In the development of the SVR model, three process parameters, namely the forming-roll speed condition, leveling-roll height, and bend angle were considered as the model inputs, and the web-warping height was used as the response variable for three blank shapes; rectangular, concave, and convex shape. MATLAB software was used to train the SVR model and optimize three hyperparameters (λ, ε, and γ). To evaluate the SVR model performance, the statistical analysis was carried out based on the three indicators: the root-mean-square error, mean absolute error, and relative root-mean-square error.
