  • In an attempt to develop a method for the design of the aerial rope way, the traditional theories of rope way were examined and compared. The resulting formulas of the traditional and approximate parabolic curve theory were summarized and those of the catenary curve theory as an exact ones were summarized and newly developed when necessary. In particular, it was found that the resulting formulas from both of these theories can fully be expressed with only three dimensionless parameters $U^{*}$, $V^{*}$, and $W^{*}$, improving compactness and generality of these formulas. Comparision of the theories were done through error analysis, and it was shown that the error of the approximate parabolic curve is of order $U^{*2}$ and $V^{*}$. From this, it was concluded that the traditional parabolic curve theory has its limitation when the rope way becomes larger or steeper, leading to the necessity of the use of catenary curve theory.ve theory.

  • The minimum reinforcement ratio is an important design factor to prevent a brittle failure in RC flexural members. A minimum reinforcement ratio is presented by assuming an effective depth of cross-section and moment arm lever in CDC and KHBDC. In this study, it suggests that a rational method for minimum reinforcement ratio is calculated by material model and force equilibrium. As results, a minimum reinforcement ratio using a p-r curve in KHBDC is evaluated about 52~80% of recent design code's value and it induces an economical design. And also, a ductility capacity in case of placing this minimum reinforcement amount is evaluated about 89% of recent design code's value, but ductility in a member is 7 or more, so it has a sufficient ductility capacity. Therefore, it is judged that a minimum reinforcement ratio using p-r curve has a theoretical rationality, safety and economy in a flexural member design.

  • The experiment was conducted to know the varietal difference in changing aspect of daily filling sink during of rice using three cultivars; ‘Suweon 295’ (japonica), ‘Suwoen 264’ and ‘IR 1317-70-1’ (semi-dwarf indica) cultivated in the field and green house of the Crop Experiment Station in 1983. There was not significant varietal difference in flowering habit and duration of flowering period each panicle. Semi-dwarf indica cultivars showed shorter days to physiological maturity of rice kernel than the japonica one. The former also displayed earlier decrease in water content of rice grain during ripening than the latter. Japonica variety revealed larger difference in ripening advancement between vigorous florets and inferior one than semi-dwarf indica varieties. The semi-dwarf indica rice cultivars expressed significantly shrewder parabola of daily filling of sink per panicle during ripening than the japonica one. The time showing maximum capacity of daily filling of sink per panicle during ripening was 10-12 days after anthesis. The filling capacity of daily sink filling per panicle for 'IR 1317-70-1', 'Suweon 264' and 'Suweon 265' at this time were about 240 mg, 165 mg and 145 mg, respectively. Pattern of sink filling per panicle during ripening was slightly changed by the cultural environment. ‘Suweon 295’ showed slightly sharper parabola and 2-3 days earlier time showing maximum capcity of daily sink demand per panicle during ripening in the field than those in the green house.
