Biosorption is considered to be a promising alternative to replace or supplement the present methods for the treatment of dye-containing wastewater. In this study, the protonated biomass of Corynebacterium glutamicum was evaluated for its potential to remove two types of reactive dyes (Reactive Red 4, Reactive Blue 4) from aqueous solution. The uptakes of dyes were enhanced with decrease in the solution pH, which was likely because the biomass functional groups increased at acidic pH and the positively charged sites could bind the negatively charged sulfonate group ($dye-SO_3^-$) of dye molecules. An equilibrium state was practically achieved in 10 hr. The Langmuir sorption model was used for the mathematical description of the sorption equilibrium. The maximum sorption capacities of C. glutamicum biomass for Reactive Red 4 and Reactive Blue 4 were estimated to 112.36 mg/g and 263.16 mg/g at pH 1, and 71.94 mg/g and 155.88 mg/g at pH 3.
The effects of pretreatment of GAC and dissolved oxygen (DO) on the sorption capacity for ο-cresol were investigated using pretreated GAC under oxic and anoxic conditions. Virgin GAC was used with pretreated GACs by $O_2$, acid and base as sorbents. Sorption capacity of GAC was dependent on the oxygen conditions according to the pretreatment methods. Virgin GAC showed increased sorption capacity when DO was present in the solution, while $O_2$-pretreated GAC did not show any considerable capacity change. Acid- and base-pretreated GACs were relatively more influenced by presence of DO as compared with virgin GAC. Both acid and base-pretreated GACs showed a rapid sorption rate at the initial stage, but as contact time became longer the sorption was slower. Sorbed ο-cresol was extracted with micro-Soxhlet extraction apparatus using the GAC separated from the rate experiments. Within 1 hour both acid and base-pretreated GACs showed the decrease in extraction efficiencies under both oxic and anoxic conditions. After 1 hour such a trend (the increase as contact time was longer) was not observed and showed relatively constant efficiencies of 35∼50%. According to the results of this study $O_2$contacted with GAC before sorption as well as DO present in the solution during sorption could influence the GAC sorption capacity.

The water clarification efficiency was examined in a shallow wetland where dense vegetation was formed naturally in an abandoned paddy field. And, also two enclosure experiments were carried out to measure the effects of materials exchange between sediment and the overlying water with the existence of vegetation and accumulated litter. The hydraulic retention time of wetland was regulated in 1.2 day. The removal rates of SS (56%) and $NO_3-N$ (61%) were high, considering its short retention time. However, removal efficiencies of VSS (28%), COD (14%), DOC (1%),and TP (0.2%) were relatively lower. This low removal efficiencies were thought to be due to the release of dissolved form of organic matter and phosphorus from the sediment. Most of constituents except nitrate were higher in the enclosure at the beginning of enclosure installation than that of the outflowing water from wetland. And then, it has fluctuated and decreased with time. The wetland was in equilibrium state of settling, accumulation of organic debris, and regeneration of dissolved material from sediment. So ultimately high primary production by dense vegetation in the wetland may be the reason of unfavorable or low treatment efficiency of wetland after many years of operation for wastewater treatment. However, the water quality of effluent from the wetland showed smaller variation and better condition than that of inflow, especially during storm events. It can be concluded that this wetland is suitable for the improvement of water quality from nonpoint sources.
In order to understand the hydrological processes on the mountainous forest, the configuration of soil evaporation (E) out of evapotranspiration (ET) is a challenging and important topic. In this study, we attempted to understand the soil evaporation process for a humid forest hillslope via measuring and analyzing soil moistures with a sampling interval in 2 hours at three locations for 10 days between May 22th and 31th 2009. Two methods were used to estimate soil evaporation in every 2hr; one is a method using soil moisture measurement ($E_{SM}$), the others methods are based on Penman equation (Penman (1948), Staple (1974), Konukcu (2007), Equilibrium Penman ($E_{equili}$)). As a critical parameter in determining $E_{SM}$, the dry surface layer (DSL), was estimated using energy balance equation. The accumulated soil evaporation ($E_{SM}$) of A, B, C points were estimated as 2.09, 1.08 and 2.88 mm, respectively. The estimated evaporation of Penman (1948), Staple (1974), Konukcu (2007), $E_{equili}$ were 4.91, 8.80, 8.63 and 3.28 mm. The proposed method with soil moisture measurement showed lower soil evaporations than the other conventional methods. The increasing soil temperature and interaction between soil and atmosphere due to existence of litter and DSL are considered as dominant factors for soil evaporation. The $E_{SM}$ has the apparent lag time between 2 and 4 hr compared with $E_{equili}$ and net radiation. The DSL and surface resistance ($r_s$) were increased as soil moisture was decreased for in this study. The estimated DSL through the temporal distribution analysis of soil moisture and tension measurements was also similar to that of the energy balance relationship.
The time resolved electron spin resonance spectroscopy are used to two measurement methods of chemically induced dynamic electron polarization (CIDEP) and absorption ESR. The spectra of the semiquinone radical anion were successively detected in the laser flash photolysis of anthraquinone in the mixtures of 2-propanol and triethylamine. The semiquinone radical anion was fairly stable and its cw ESR could be observed. The rate constant (T1$^{-1}$) of the spin-depolarization of polarized semiquinone radical anion was 2.6 ${\times}\;1-^5$ sec$^{-1}$ and the decay of the radical anion was the first order with the rate constant (K$_1}$) of 300.0 sec$^{-1}$. The intensity of CIDEP spectra increased with the increasing the microwave power, but the Torrey wiggles appeared following with decay curves.
This work studies the equilibrium behavior of customers and optimal pricing strategies of the sever in a continuous-time M/M/1 queueing system. In this work, we consider two pricing models. The first one is called the ex-ante payment scheme where the server charges a flat price for all services, and the second one is called the ex-post payment scheme where the server charges a price that is proportional to the time a customer spends in the system. In each pricing model, the departing customer receives the reward that is inversely proportional to his/her sojourn time. The server should make the optimal pricing decisions in order to maximize its expected profit per unit time in each payment scheme. This work also investigates customer's equilibrium joining or balking behaviors under server's optimal pricing strategies. Numerical experiments are conducted to help the server best select one between two pricing models.

Broadcast-based data dissemination has become a widely accepted approach of communication in the mobile computing environment. However, with a large set of data items, the expected delay of receiving a desired data increases due to the sequential nature of the broadcast channel. With the objective of minimizing this wait time, this paper explores the problem of data broadcast over multiple channels. In traditional approaches, data items are partitioned based on their access probabilities and allocated on multiple channels, assuming flat data scheduling per channel. If the data items allocated on the same channel are broadcast in different frequencies based on their access probabilities, the performance will be enhanced further. In this respect, this paper proposes a new broadcast scheduling scheme named two level dynamic programming(TLDP) which can reflect a variation of access probabilities among data items allocated on the same channel.

Quizalofop-ethyl is a herbicide which is extensively applied to soybean, onion, garlic, strawberry and watermelon to control broad-leaf weeds. The experiment was conducted to find out soil adsorption of this chemical. The soil adsorption of quizalofop-ethyl in both Yeongok and Namwon soil series reached an equilibrium 24 hours after shaking incubation. Correlation coefficients of Freundlich plot of both soils were 0.998 and 0.995, respectively. Adsorption constants(K) were 4.710 and 10.414, respectively. Amounts of soil adsorption of quizalofop-ethyl increased with an increase in soil organic matter and incubation temperature.
The predominant kernel(7mesh) of naked barleys were polished to give 65% yield. The diffusion coefficients and volume increase rates of polished naked burleys at $40^{\circ}C$ were $3{\sim}4$ and 2.2 times greater than those of naked barleys, respectively. The moisture gains of polished naked barleys were linearly related to the volume increases. The hardness of polished naked burleys during soaking was exponentially decreased.
