  • An epipolar rectification is the process of transforming the epipolar geometry of a pair of images into a canonical form. This is accomplished by applying a homography to each image that maps the epipole to a predetermined point. In this process, rectified images transformed by homographies must be satisfied with the epipolar constraint. These homographies are not unique, however, we find out homographies that are suited to system's purpose by means of an additive constraint. Since the rectified image pair be a stereo image pair, we are able to find the disparity efficiently. Therefore, we are able to estimate the three-dimensional information of objects within an image and apply this information to object segmentation. This paper proposes a rectification method for object segmentation and applies the rectification result to the object segmentation. Using color and relative continuity of disparity for the object segmentation, the drawbacks of previous segmentation method, which are that the object is segmented to several region because of having different color information or another object is merged into one because of having similar color information, are complemented. Experimental result shows that the disparity of result image of proposed rectification method have continuity about unique object. Therefore we have confirmed that our rectification method is suitable to the object segmentation.

  • The objective of the present study is to verify the validity of a new truss model for evaluating the contribution by arch action to shear resistance in shear-critical reinforced concrete beams. The new truss model is based on the relationship between shear and bending moment in a beam subjected to combined shear and bending. The compatibility condition of the shear deformation that deviates from Bernoulli bending plane is formulated utilizing the smeared truss idealization with an inclined compression chord. The Modified Compression Filed Theory is employed to calculate the shear deformation of the web, and the relative axial displacements of the compression and the tension chord by the shear flow are also calculated. From this shear compatibility condition in a beam, the shear contribution by the arch action is numerically decoupled. Then the validity of the model is examined by applying the model to some selected test beams in literatures. On the basis of the analytical results, the contribution by the web to shear resistance can be constant and have an excellent linear correlation with the web reinforcement ratio. The present decoupling approach may provide a simple way for the assessment of the role of each parameter or mechanism that affects the ultimate shear behavior of reinforced concrete beams.

  • This paper is considered on the dynamic behavior and the dynamic impact coefficient on the cable-stayed bridge under the vehicle load. The method of static analysis, that is, the transfer matrix method is used to get influence values about displacements, section forces of girder and cable forces. Gotten influence values were used as basic data to analyse dynamic behavior. This paper used the transfer matrix method because it is relatively simpler than the finite element method, and calculating speed of computer is very fast and the precision of computation is high. In the process of dynamic analysis, the uncoupled equation of motion is derived from simultaneous equation of the motion of cable-stayed bridge and vehicle travelling by using mode shape, which was borne from system of undamped free vibration. The solution of the uncoupled equation of motion, that is, time history of response of deflections, velocity and acceleration on reference coordinate system, is found by Newmark-${\beta}$ method, a kind of direct integral method. After the time history of dynamic response was gotten, and it was transfered to the time history of dynamic response of cable-stayed bridge by linear transformation of coordinates. As a result of this numerical analysis, effect of dynamic behavior for cable-stayed bridge under the vehicle load has varied depending on parameter of design, that is, the ratio of span, the ratio of main span length, tower height, the flexural rigidity of longitudinal girder, the flexural rigidity of tower, and the cable stiffness, investigated. Very good agreements with the existing solution in the literature are shown for the uncracked plate as well as the cracked plate.

  • Background: Measurement of body temperature is an important parameter in patient management in many clinical conditions. Failure to reach minimal acceptable body temperature standards has been associated with physiological derangements and has necessitated the application of additional therapy. The authors developed a new, simple, accurate thermometry system, which could be used to undertake precise temperature measurement for various clinical conditions. Materials and Methods: A new thermometry system using a specially designed temperature detecting and display system was developed. This system contains a temperature detecting sensor(LM 35CZ), which enables multiple serial checking of heat, data collection and processing computer, and 3-dimensional display system. It provides real time volumetric visualization of temperature distribution of a defined volume and stores and prints the data. Results: With this system, temperature can be measured at multiple interesting sites simultaneously, demonstrated as a 3-dimensional temperature distribution and stored. In well-controlled, systematic experiments a significant correlation has been observed between standard temperature and temperature using this system at various measuring points. Conclusion: This thermometry system is a real-time measurement system, which can demonstrate 3-dimensional heat distribution in experimental phantom and human body and can be used for diagnosing abnormal clinical conditions. In addition, this system reduces the nursing staff work load, providing them more time for long term care to patients.

  • As the process technology scales down, an interconnection has became a major performance constraint for multi-core processors. Recently, in order to mitigate the performance bottleneck of the interconnection for multi-core processors, a 3D integration technique has drawn quite attention. The 3D integrated multi-core processor has advantage for reducing global wire length, resulting in a performance improvement. However, it causes serious thermal problems due to increased power density. For this reason, to design efficient 3D multi-core processors, thermal-aware design techniques should be considered. In this paper, we analyze the temperature on the 3D multi-core processors in function unit level through various experiments. We also present temperature characteristics by varying application features, cooling characteristics, and frequency levels on 3D multi-core processors. According to our experimental results, following two rules should be obeyed for thermal-aware 3D processor design. First, to optimize the thermal profile of cores, the core with higher cooling efficiency should be clocked at a higher frequency. Second, to lower the temperature of cores, a workload with higher thermal impact should be assigned to the core with higher cooling efficiency.

  • The numerical simulation of Brazilian fracture toughness test is carried out using PFC code and the influence parameters are analyzed such as shape of loading plane, size of Brazilian disc and unit panicle of model, loading angle and loading rate. The flattened Brazilian disc is adopted for applying uniform load. The range of loading angle(2$\alpha$) necessary to induce the tensile crack at disc center and to obtain the load-displacement curve giving the critical load for the stable crack propagation is shown as 20$^{\circ}$~40$^{\circ}$. In condition that the loading angle is 20$^{\circ}$, the mode-I fracture toughness is evaluated almost constant in the range of particle size less than I mm and loading rate less than 0.01 mm/s. This range of influence parameters seems appropriate condition for the tensile crack initiation at disc center and the control of stable crack propagation, which can give the reliance in evaluation of fracture toughness by Brazilian test.

  • This study explores the attributes of local readers based on a discriminant analysis. Local readers are divided into three groups national newspaper reader, local newspaper reader, and national & local newspaper reader. A nationwide telephone survey was conducted in june, 2004 and gathered 2,063 cases. News subject and advertising appeared to play less important role in distinguishing among the three group examined. The most powerful discriminating variables were residence area and period of residence area. Education, interest of capital city news, job were found to be moderately important variables on Function 1, which distinguished between local newspaper reader and national & local newspaper reader. Generally, local newspaper reader showed higher interest on capital area news and lower interest on metropolitan area news. However, the result of a discriminant analysis indicated local newspaper reader was distinguished from national newspaper reader in terms of higher interest of metropolitan area news. Simultaneously, local newspaper reader was distinguished from national & local newspaper in terms of lower interest of capital area news.

  • 3D reconstruction of a scene structure from un-calibrated image sequences has been long one of the central problems in computer vision. For 3D reconstruction in Euclidean space, projective reconstruction, which is classified into the merging method and the factorization, is needed as a preceding step. By calculating all camera projection matrices and structures at the same time, the factorization method suffers less from dia and error accumulation than the merging. However, the factorization is hard to analyze precisely long sequences because it is based on the assumption that all correspondences must remain in all views from the first frame to the last. This paper presents a new projective reconstruction method for recovery of 3D structure over long sequences. We break a full sequence into sub-sequences based on a quantitative measure considering the number of matching points between frames, the homography error, and the distribution of matching points on the frame. All of the projective reconstructions of sub-sequences are registered into the same coordinate frame for a complete description of the scene. no experimental results showed that the proposed method can recover more precise 3D structure than the merging method.

  • In this paper we propose a hardware architecture of high-speed CGH (computer generated hologram) generation processor, which particularly reduces the number of memory access times to avoid the bottle-neck in the memory access operation. For this, we use three main schemes. The first is pixel-by-pixel calculation rather than light source-by-source calculation. The second is parallel calculation scheme extracted by modifying the previous recursive calculation scheme. The last one is a fully pipelined calculation scheme and exactly structured timing scheduling by adjusting the hardware. The proposed hardware is structured to calculate a row of a CGH in parallel and each hologram pixel in a row is calculated independently. It consists of input interface, initial parameter calculator, hologram pixel calculators, line buffer, and memory controller. The implemented hardware to calculate a row of a $1,920{\times}1,080$ CGH in parallel uses 168,960 LUTs, 153,944 registers, and 19,212 DSP blocks in an Altera FPGA environment. It can stably operate at 198MHz. Because of the three schemes, the time to access the external memory is reduced to about 1/20,000 of the previous ones at the same calculation speed.
