  • In the ocean, it is difficult to separate the effects of one cause due to the multiple causes, but the self-organizing map can be analyzed by adding other factors to the cluster result. Therefore, in this study, the results of the clustering of sea level data were applied to sea surface temperature. Sea level data was clustered into a total of 6 nodes. The difference between sea surface temperature and sea level height has a one-month delay, which applied sea surface temperature data a month ago to the clustered results. As a result of comparing the mean of sea surface temperature of 140 to 150°E, where the sea surface temperature was variously distributed, in the case of nodes 1, 3, and 5, it was possible to find a meandering sea surface temperature distribution that is clearly distinguished from the sea level data. While nodes 2, 4 and 6, the sea surface temperature distribution was smooth. In this study, sea surface temperature data were applied to the clustered results of sea level data, but later it is necessary to apply wind or geostrophic velocity data to compare.

  • This study was carried out for the analysis of temperature characteristics on soil surface using soil heat flux which is one of the important parameters forming soil temperature. Soil surface temperature was estimated by using the soil temperature measured at 10 cm soil depth and the soil heat flux measured by flux plate at 5 cm soil depth. There was time lag of two hours between soil temperature and soil heat flux. Temperature changes over time showed a positive correlation with soil heat flux. Soil surface temperature was estimated by the equation using variable separation method for soil surface temperature. Arithmetic mean using temperatures measured at soil surface and 10 cm depth, and soil temperature measured at 5 cm depth were compared for accuracy of the value. To validate the regression model through this comparison, F-validation was used. Usefulness of deductive regression model was admitted because intended F-value was smaller than 0.001 and the determination coefficient was 0.968. It can be concluded that the estimated surface soil temperatures obtained by variable separation method were almost equal to the measured surface soil temperature.

  • The winter cherry bug, Acanthocoris sordidus (Thunberg), is an insect pest hat damages plants from Solanaceae and Convolvulaceae. The developmental period from egg to adult averages 76 days at $25^{\circ}C$. Adult egg-laying occurred irregularly via spawning, averaging 195 (up to 468) eggs per individual on the abaxial leaf surface of the host plant. Results of linear regression indicated that the lower developmental threshold temperature was $13.9^{\circ}C$ and the effective accumulated temperature was 526.3 DD. Data from a pepper field in 2015 indicated that overwintering adults first appeared during late June (daily average temperature = $25.7^{\circ}C$), reaching maximum density by early September. A choice test examining colonization preferences using a net cage and a Y-tube olfactometer revealed that females gravitated toward conspecifics (other females, males, or both), whereas males moved toward empty areas. Finally, we found that communal breeding results in a longer developmental period and higher eclosion rates than solitary breeding. Developmental periods and eclosion rates were also for colonies in a large space than for those in a small space. This outcome suggests that colonization effects on insect development are stronger in a smaller area.

  • To predict the future distribution of forest vegetation, the present forest stand distributions of South Korea were represented by multinomial logit model with the following environmental variables: summer average precipitation, the coldest month average temperature, elevation, degree of base saturation, and soil organic matter. The future forest community was predicted by applying the MIROC3.2 hires A1B scenario. The future climate data were downscaled by statistically method. The coldest month average temperature increased $4.4^{\circ}C$, $6.0^{\circ}C$, and $9.4^{\circ}C$, and 3 months average precipitation changed -1.2%, 5.7%, and 5.3% for 2020s, 2050s, and 2080s respectively. For the projected summer precipitation and the coldest temperature, the future deciduous and mixed forests in the study area increased 56.9% and 8.3% and the coniferous forest decreased 11.2% in 2080s based on present.

  • This study examined effects of the wall thermal conductivity coefficients on the thermal fluid phenomenon of a compartment fire. The reduced scale compartment was 0.4 m in width, 0.6 m in length and 0.6 m in height with a fire-board, which has a thermal conductivity coefficient of $0.18W/m{\cdot}K$. The local temperature at a 0.37 m height and the overall heat release rate were measured under the following experiment conditions: a $0.12m^2$ opening area and $0.01m^2$ pool size of a gasoline fire. The numerical results obtained by the Fire Dynamic Simulation were compared with the experimentally measured temperature. The deviations were within 10 % in the period of the steady state for maximum heat release rate (4.8 kW). The numerical results show that the average temperature of the compartment wall decreases by approximately 71 % with increasing thermal conductivity coefficient from $0.1W/m{\cdot}K$ to $100.0W/m{\cdot}K$ on the fixed heat release rate.

  • In order to efficiently recycle the waste solution resulting from shadow mask processing, nano-sized Ni-ferrite powder was fab-ricated through spray pyrolysis process. The average particle size of the powder was below 100nm. In this study, the effects of the reaction temperature. the concentration of raw material solution and the injection speed of solution on the properties of powder were respectively investigated. As the reaction temperature increased from $800^{\circ}C$ to $1100^{\circ}C$, average particle size of the powder significantly Increased and power structure became more solid, whereat its specific surface area was greatly reduced. Formation rate and crystallization of($NiFe_2$$O_4$) phale increased along with the temperature rise. As the concentrations of iron and nickel components in wastere solution increased, particle size of the powder became larger, particle size distribution became more irregular, and specific surface area was reduced. Formation rate and crystallization of $NiFe_2$$O_4$ phase increased significantly along with the increase of the concentration of solution. As the inlet speed of solution increased, particle size of the powder became larger, particle size distribution became wider, specific surface area was reduced and powder structure became less solid. As the inlet speed of solution decreased, formation rate and crystallization of $NiFe_2$$O_4$ phase significantly increased.

  • This study proposes the detection algorithm for the cold water mass (CWM) along the eastern coast of the Korean Peninsula using sea surface temperature (SST) data provided by the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST). Considering the occurrence and distribution of the CWM, the eastern coast of the Korean Peninsula is classified into 3 regions("Goseong-Uljin", "Samcheok-Guryongpo", "Pohang-Gijang"), and the K-means clustering is first applied to SST field of each region. Three groups, K-means clusters are used to determine CWM through applying a double threshold filter predetermined using the standard deviation and the difference of average SST for the 3 groups. The estimated sea area is judged by the CWM if the standard deviation in the sea area is 0.6℃ or higher and the average water temperature difference is 2℃ or higher. As a result of the CWM detection in 2022, the number of CWM occurrences in "Pohang-Gijang" was the most frequent on 77 days and performance indicators of the confusion matrix were calculated for quantitative evaluation. The accuracy of the three regions was 0.83 or higher, and the F1 score recorded a maximum of 0.95 in "Pohang-Gijang". The detection algorithm proposed in this study has been applied to the KIOST SST system providing a CWM map by email.

  • In this study, the vorticity distribution and the temperature distribution change around a circular cylinder were compared and analyzed with time for constant inlet velocity and periodic inlet velocity. Also, the frequency characteristics of the flow were analyzed by analyzing the time variation of lift and drag and their PSD(power spectral density). In the case of constant inlet velocity, the well known Karman vorticity distribution was shown, and vortices were alternately generated at the upper and lower sides of the circular cylinder. In case of periodic inlet velocity, it was observed that vortex occurred simultaneously in the upper and lower sides of the circular cylinder. In both cases, it was confirmed that the time dependent temperature distribution changes almost the same behavior as the vorticity distribution. For the constant inlet velocity, the vortex flow frequency is 31.15 Hz, and for the periodic inlet velocity, the vortex flow frequency is equal to the preriodic inlet velocity at 15.57 Hz. The mean surface Nusselt number was 99.6 for the constant inlet velocity and 110.7 for the periodic inlet velocity, which showed 11.1% increase in surface heat transfer.

  • The objective of this study was to test germinability of sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) varieties at low temperatures. Seeds of III sesame varieties representing different maturity groups and countries were tested at four different temperatures between $10^{\circ}C$ and $16^{\circ}C$. Average germination percentages of III varieties were 92%, 57% and 3.3% at $16^{\circ}C, 14{\circ}C$ and $12^{\circ}C$.respectively. The highest daily germination percentage was observed after 4 days of incubation at $16^{\circ}C$, while it was after 8 days at $14^{\circ}C$. A regression analysis indicated that $15^{\circ}C$ as the minimum temperature for satisfactory germination in field conditions. In general, Korean local collections had better germinability than introduced varieties from 6 countries at different latitudes. 'San dong', a Korean local cultivar. showed the highest germination percentage (24%) at $12^{\circ}C$ when the average germination percentage of all varieties was as low as $3.3^{\circ}C$. Early maturity varieties germinated better at $12^{\circ}C$ and $14^{\circ}C$ than medium or late maturity groups, but no difference was observed at $16^{\circ}C$. Although larger seeds showed better germinability within a variety, there seems to be no relationship between seed size and germinability in sesame.in sesame.
