  • The Free Trade Agreement between Korea and Peru entered into force in 2011. Under the agreement, both countries will eliminated all tariffs within ten years after it takes effect. The Korea-Peru Free Trade Agreement turned out to have significantly boosted Korea's exports to the South American state, as well as its relative share in the local import market. Korea mainly imports resources such as zinc and copper, and exports such goods as passenger car and color televisions. The FTA opens up a larger market for Korean home appliances like color televisions. Korea's trade with Peru has been mainly about concentrated investment into mining and exporting limited variety of export items. This paper analyzes the recent trends of problems of trade between Korea and Peru and suggests solutions for boosting trade to provide proper strategic guidelines for Korea that are planning to expand to Peruvian market

  • Peru is located on Andean Range and faced Pacific Ocean and one of the important oil and gas production countries in the South America. Peru's oil business have been invested by foreign oil companies due to the good investment environment, even though the Peru could not be self-sufficiency in oil. Increase in oil price of the world has contributed to the oil and gas developments and productions in the last few years in many oil and gas blocks, such as in the 1-AB blocks and Camisea gas field within the Amazon jungles. Korean oil companies also have obtained several oil and gas blocks in the Peru in last few year, corresponding with the resources diplomacy of Korean government. Investment is strongly expected to be increased in the Peru's oil business due to positive investment environment, such as low royalty rate, tax avoidance, and the favourable terms of the contract to foreign companies etc.

  • The aim of this study was to explore the association between daily toothbrushing frequency and health risk behaviors of school-going adolescents in poor urban areas of Peru. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 959 school-going adolescents 11~19 years of age in poor urban areas of Peru in 2014. Health risk behaviors we assessed in the study were smoking; drinking; consuming sugar-sweetened soft drinks (more than one cup); leisure time activities including watching television, playing games, and using the Internet; and never or rarely handwashing with soap. Daily toothbrushing frequency was divided into two groups (once and twice daily). For statistical analyses, the chi-square test and hierarchical logistic regression were used at 5% level of significance. Of the total respondents, 63 (14.3%) were boys and 53 (10.3%) were girls and 116 (12.1%) engaged in toothbrushing (${\leq}1$ times daily). According to the adjusted logistic regression analysis for socio-demographic characteristics, two behaviors (leisure time use activities, including watching television, playing games, and using the Internet (odds ratio [OR], 2.29; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.20~4.35), and never or rarely hand washing with soap (OR, 4.09; CI, 2.48~6.75) were statistically associated with toothbrushing frequency (${\leq}1$ times daily). We found two health risk behaviors (leisure time activities, including watching television, playing games, and using the Internet, and never or rarely handwashing with soap) associated with toothbrushing frequency among adolescents in the study area. Thus, oral health promotion programs should consider these health risk behaviors associated with toothbrushing frequency.

  • The copper mineralization in Peru is intimately associated with porphyry Cu deposits and subdivides into three porphyry Cu belt as Paleocene, Eocene-Oligocene, and Miocene. Up to now, the total copper production from them reach 28 Mt Cu. The total copper production from the Paleocene Cu belt, including Toquepala, Cuajone, and Cerro Verde, accounts for approximately 57% of total copper production from Peru. But focusing mineral exploration on middle southern (Eocene-Oligocene) and northwestern part (Miocene) of Peru results in new discoveries, including La Granja, El Galeno, Las Bambas, Toromocho, and Rio Blanco, which have an estimated annual production more than 200,000 t Cu. In addition to them, thirteen Cu deposits are discovered from the Paleocene, Eocene-Oligocene, and Miocene Cu belts. Thus, Peru is supposed to produce Cu production from 2014 and increases annual production from 143 Mt Cu in 2012 to 490 Mt Cu in 2019. Due to new discoveries, it is expected that mineral exploration activities in Peru are likely to move from Paleocene Cu belt to Eocene-Oligocene and Miocene Cu belts.

  • Until 2014, 14 million tonnes of Pb (metal based) and 41 million tonnes of Zn (metal based) were produced in Peru. Representative two Pb-Zn metallogenic belts were known in Peru. They are lower Cretaceous-Paleocene VMS Cu-Zn-Au metallogenic belt and Miocene epithermal, skarn, replacement & polymetallic vein metallogenic belt. If four new mining projects were launched and additional three mining projects were prepared until 2017, it seems possible to produce 0.34 million tonnes of Pb and 1.5 million tonnes of Zn additionally. In Pb-Zn metallogenic belt in Peru, potential Zn amounts range from 9 to 6000 million tonnes with 0.1 to 14% Zn and potential Pb amounts range from 5 to 2800 million tonnes with 0.04 to 5.3% Pb.

  • In the 21st century there has been an explosive gain in the popularity of Korean culture, often referred to as Hallyu, which translates into 'Korean Wave'. This is especially true in Latin America, which has seen Hallyu reach enormous heights. This study investigates the Hallyu phenomenon in Mexico and Peru over a three year period (2012-2014), with the utilization of current facts and media analysis associated with Hallyu. Mexico as a nation is an important one for this study, considering it was the first country to adopt Hallyu in Latin America and still holds a strong influence in the growth and movement of Hallyu in this region. Furthermore, in recent years, Peru has seen the most growth in popularity of Hallyu in Latin America and is therefore an essential country of study. Therefore, an in depth media analysis of the Hallyu phenomenon in Peru will offer a strong case study for further progressing and extending the rise in Korean culture in the region of Latin America. The extension of Hallyu is imperative in its contribution to the ascension of Korea's culture and national brand image.

  • New geochronological data of U-Pb, Re-Os and the lead isotope analysis of the Cu-Mo-Au mineral deposits are reported in the Trapiche and Constancia around Apurimac province, southeastern part of Peru. The measured ages were the first regional pulse of previously reported mineralization age between 28 and 33 Ma. The lead isotopic results indicate two sources of mineralization. The first source is thought to be derived from the upper crust and the second one is thought to be derived from a mixture of the upper crust and the lower crust.
