  • In this paper the developed prediction technique of wave-making resistance performance for a ship attached with a vertical blade had been verified. Numerical analysis program as a prediction technique had been developed using the Rankine source panel method and the vortex lattice method(VLM). The nonlinearity of the free surface conditions was fully taken into account using the iterative method and the trim and the sinkage of the ship were also considered in the numerical analysis program. Panel cutting method was applied to get hull surface panels. Numerical computations were carried out for a 4000TEU container carrier and the vertical blade was attached 6 different locations astern. To investigate the validity of the numerical analysis program the commercial viscous flow field analysis program FLUENT was used to obtain the viscous flow field around the ship and the model test was performed. The model test results were compared with the numerical analysis results.

  • A new solution method was developed to solve the free surface flow around a hull and named as 'Variable Free Surface Panel Method'. In the method the non-linearity of the free surface boundary conditions was fully taken into account and the raised panel method was employed to effectively solve the problem. The transom stern flow was also considered and the panel on the hull was generated using the panel cutting method. Numerical calculations were performed for KCS(KRISO Container Ship) hull form and compared with the experimental data to confirm the validity of the method. The comparison with the conventional free surface panel method was also accomplished. It is confirmed that new method gives more reliable results than the conventional method.

  • In this paper a new hull-panel generation algorithm named 'Panel Cutting Method' was developed to solve the flow phenomena around a ship advancing on the free surface with a constant speed. In this algorithm the non-linearity of the free surface boundary conditions was taken into account using the iterative method and the raised panel was used at each iteration step. Numerical calculations were performed to investigate the validity of the developed algorithm using the series $60(C_B=0.60)$ hull The wave resistance coefficients, the wave patterns and the wave heights were compared between the computed and the experimental results at Fn=0.25 and 0.316. The comparison showed good agreement between computation and experiment.

  • The Ranking source panel method was used to predict the flow phenomenon of a ship with a goose-neck type bulbous bow penetrating the free surface. The non-linearity of the free surface boundary condition was fully satisfied using an iterative calculation method, and the raised panel method was adopted to obtain a more stable solution at each iteration step. The panel cutting method was applied to generate a hull calculation grid at each iteration step, including the first step. At that time, the nose of the goose-neck type bulbous bow was divided by the free surface and the free surface panel was modified at each iteration step using the variable free surface panel method. Numerical calculations were performed to investigate the validity and efficiency of the applied numerical algorithm using the 3600 TEU container carrier. The computed wave resistance coefficients were compared with the experimentally achieved residual resistance coefficients.

  • LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) panel cutting problem is a sort of two dimensional cutting stock problem. A cutting stock problem is problem that it minimizes the loss of the stock when a stock is cut into various parts. In the most research of the two dimensional cutting stock problem, it is supposed that the relative angle of a stock and parts is not important. Usually the angle is regarded as horizontal or perpendicular. In the manufacturing of polarizing film of LCD, the relative angle should be maintained at some specific angle because of the physical and/or chemical characteristics of raw material. We propose a mathematical model for solving this problem, a two-dimensional non-Guillotine cutting stock problem that is restricted by an arranged angle. Some example problems are solved by the C++ program using ILOG CPLEX classes. We could get the verification and validation of the suggested model based on the solutions.
