  • This paper is investigated to variation of wave power generation operation rate, operating capacity and output with the wave conditions represented by wave height-period window. By the use of the long-term wave data from 1979 to 2002 which is provided by Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute(KORDI), we calculated the monthly variation of significant wave height(Hs), zero-up crossing period(Tz) and distribution of wave appearance rate. And using the same wave data, it was charted the Hs-Tz and wave-energy scatter diagrams.

On Statistical Properties of the Extreme Waves in Hong-do Sea Area During Typhoons (홍도 해역에서 태풍 중 극한파의 통계적 특성에 대한 연구)

  • In this paper, The statistical properties of ocean waves in the sea area of Hong-do, Korea are examined based on 1998-2002's wave data from a directional wave buoy. Wave data aquisition rate, mean wave heights, frequency of wave direction are summarized. Wave height and period scatter diagrams and n-year return period wave heights are estimated. Wave periods of maximum wave heights are also estimated. Large amplitude wave characteristics during the typhoon Prapiroon in 2000, Rusa in 2002 are also examined.

Relations of Five Color Preference with Chinese Body Constitution of Residents in Seoul Area (서울지역 주민의 중의(中醫) 체질(體質)별 오색(五色)선호도와의 연관성)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study examined the distribution of constitution(Con) types by examining the Chinese constitution table questionnaire with 594 Seoul citizens. It investigated the preferences of five colors by the Con. It then was to explore the validity of the test and the five colors according to the Con. Methods: We used the CC table questionnaire and surveyed by using a cardinal color. Results: The Con type distributions include yangweak(31.4%), yin-weak, gall-humidity, harmony, qi-weak, qi-gloom, specific, and extravasate in order. The lack of statistical significance also indicates that the CC test is not appropriate for Seoul citizens. The order of five preferences is 31% in blue, 25.3% in yellow, 18% in white, 17.7% in red, and 8% in black. Blue was the most preferred and black the least. There were differences in the distribution of five colors, but they were not statistically significant. In five viscera diseases of the yang-weak con, the stomach was more than half(50.3%). The highest preferred color was blue (30.9%). This difference was significant(p <.01). It evaluated that this influences the preference of five colors by five diseases. Conclusions: The constitution of Seoulian in the CC survey distributed into nine categories. There was a difference in preference of five colors by the con. However, it was not significant. This indicates that the Chinese con table is not suitable for Seoulian. However, the results are to be primary data for research in this field.

Estimating Soil Thickness in a Debris Flow using Elastic Wave Velocity (탄성파 속도를 활용한 토석류 위험지역의 표토층 두께 결정)

  • To estimate the stability of a debris flow it is necessary to know the mass of surface soil, cohesion, slope, and friction angle. Given that the mass of surface soil is a function of soil thickness and mass density, it is important to obtain reliable estimates of soil thickness across a wide area. The objective of this paper is to estimate soil thickness using the elastic wave velocity with a new standard velocity. Tests are performed in debris-flow hazard areas, after which four profiles are selected to obtain the elastic wave velocity. Dynamic cone penetration tests are carried out to find the soil thickness at 18 points. The elastic wave velocity shows the area consists of 3~4 layers, and soil thicknesses are predicted by utilizing the new standard. The elastic wave velocity and dynamic cone penetration tests yield large differences in soil thickness. Therefore, this study shows that the new standard is useful not only in estimating soil thickness but also in improving the reliability of estimates of soil thickness.

  • The SHE(Selected Harmonic Elimination) PWM scheme which eliminates specific lower order harmonics can generate h high quality output waveforms in 3-level PWM inverters. However. its application has limited since SHE switching a angles cannot be calculated on-line by a microprocessor-implemented control system. Based on off-line optimization. in which multiple SHE solutions were found and analysed for 2 to 5 switching angles per quarter in the 3-level SHE PWM pattern. this paper presents an algebraic algorithm for an ordinary microprocessor to calculate approximate SHE S switching angles on-line with such high resolution that it makes no practical difference between the accurate and the a approximate SHE switching angles. By employing the variable of the dc-link voltage Vdc' the proposed SHE PWM p pattern can ideally compensate the dc input fluctuation together with selected harmonics eliminated.

Computation of Noncentral F Probabilities using multilayer neural network (다층 신경 망을 이용한 비중심F분포 확률계산)

  • The test statistic in ANOVA tests has a single or doubly noncentral F distribution and the noncentral F distribution is applied to the calculation of the power functions of tests of general linear hypotheses. Although various approximations of noncentral F distribution are suggested, they are troublesome to compute. In this paper, the calculation of noncentral F distribution is applied to the neural network theory, to solve the computation problem. The neural network consists of the multi-layer perceptron structure and learning process has the algorithm of the backpropagation. Using fables and figs, comparisons are made between the results obtained by neural network theory and the Patnaik's values. Regarding of accuracy and calculation, the results by neural network are efficient than the Patnaik's values.

TWO CLASS ACTIVITIES OF M&M CANDIES (M&M 쵸코렛을 이용한 교실에서의 통계활동)

  • Jim Libby(2000)는 임의의 M&M 밀크 쵸코렛 봉지에서 꺼낸 것을 다시 집어넣지 않고 3개의 쵸코렛을 꺼낼 때 같은 색이 나올 확률을 계산하는 방법의 논문을 썼다. Libby는 그의 논문에서 갈색, 노랑, 빨강, 주황, 초록, 파랑의 6개 색의 M&M 밀크 쵸코렛들이 똑같은 비율로 분포되었다고 가정하였다. 그러나 실제로 M&M 쵸코렛의 여섯 가지 색깔의 확률분포는 똑같은 비율이 아니다. M&M회사는 홈페이지(http://www.m-ms.com/cai/mms/faq.html)를 통해 실제적인 6개 색의 M&M 밀크 쵸코렛들의 분포는 갈색이 30%, 노랑과 빨간색이 각각 20% 주황, 초록과 파랑은 각각 10%의 분포라고 밝히고 있다. 이 논문에서 우리는 Libby가 생각하였던 문제를 실제적인 6개 색의 M&M 밀크 쵸코렛들의 확률 분표에 의거하여 다시 생각해보며, 또한 3개의 쵸코렛대신 n개의 쵸코렛을 꺼낸다고 가정하여 더욱 일반적인 결론을 유도한다. 또한 유도한 이 정확한 확률 공식과 근사 공식을 활동을 통해 점검하고 학생들이 주도적으로 지금까지 배워온 이론들을 점검할 수 있게 하였다. 활동을 시작하기 전에 정확한 확률 공식과 근사 공식과의 관계를 설명하고 기본적인 확률과 통계의 개념을 다시 정립할 수 있도록 하였다. Piaget가 '지식이란 학습자에 의해 능동적으로 구성되는 것이지 환경으로부터 수동적으로 받아들이는 것은 아니다'라고 했듯이, 활동을 통한 학습은 학생들을 능동적으로 만들기 때문에 학생들이 지식을 구성해 갈 수 있다. 활동을 간단히 소개하면 다음과 같다. 활동I에서는 초코렛을 세어서 근사 확률을 추정하는 방법이 소개된다. 어떻게 매개변수가 두 공식에 관련이 되는지를 측정하고 두 공식을 사용하여 정확한 확률과 근사 확률을 계산하여 비교해본다. 각 조원들과 이 세 과정에서 무엇을 배웠나 토론하고 다른 조들과 배운 것을 나눈다. 활동II는 두 과정으로 나누어진다. 첫 번 과정은 각 그룹의 한 학생이 주어진 쵸코렛 봉지에서 3개의 쵸코렛을 꺼낸다. 다른 학생은 표 3에 나온 결과를 기록한다. 계속하여 20번씩 한다. 다시 학생을 바꾸어 20번 계속한다. 같은 색깔의 쵸코렛이 나온 확률은 계산하기 위한 간단한 실험이고 두 번째 과정은 각 조가 웹사이트나 선생님으로부터 제공받은 프로그램을 다운로드 받아 하는 시뮬레이션이다. 이 실험 후에 학생들이 이 두 활동을 통해 무엇을 배웠는지 토론해보고 또 두 활동을 비교해 볼 수 있다. 마지막으로 M&M 쵸코렛을 먹는 것으로 활동을 마칠 수 있을 것이다. 활동 II에 나오는 두 시뮬레이션은 학생들이 수학 이론의 힘을 깨달을 뿐 아니라 수학 교실에서 큰 재미를 느끼게 될 것이다. 이 논문에서 그래픽 계산기로 할 수 있는 프로그램을 소개하였다.

Geophysical Investigation of the Subsurface in the Dok-do Island (물리탐사를 이용한 독도 지반조사)

  • Electrical resistivity and seismic refraction surveys were conducted to investigate geologic structures and geotechnical characteristics of the subsurface in Dok-do island, along with rock physical properties. The resistivity results in Seo-do island show that the fault adjacent to the fisherman's shelter is a normal fault and extended towards the NW direction. Bedded Rapilli Tuff in the downstream was more severely influenced in depth by weathering and erosion than Trachy Andesite II in the upstream area. The physical properties of the rocks illustrate that Trachyte and Trachy Andesite are hardest, Massive Tuff Breccia is next, and Tuffs are the most soft rocks in Dok-do island.

A Revision of the Suborder Labroidei(Pisces: Perciformes) from Korea (한국산 놀래기아목(농어목) 어류의 분류와 분포)

  • The toxonomic revision of the suborder Labroidei was made based on the specimens collected from the coasts of Korean Peninsula from 1988 to 1996. The fishes of this suborder in Korea are composed 32 species belonging to 22 genera and five families of Pomacentridae, Cichlidae, Embiotocidae, Labridae, and Scaridae. And the keys to species, genera and families are provided with redescriptions and collection data. Among them the specimens of 21 species were collected and Ditrema viridis of family Embiotocidae was the first record from the coast of Wando-gun, Chollanam-do, Korea. Most species of the suborder Labroidei of Korea were mainly distributed in the coast of Cheju Island and South coast influenced by the warm Kuroshio Current.
