  • 자동차용 타이어는 고무와 고무의 보강 및 치수 안정용으로 사용되는 다량의 타이어코드로 이루어져 있다. 고무는 신축성이 크고 공기압 등에 의해 물성이 현저하게 저하하므로 신축을 적게 하고 물성의 저하를 막기 위해 보강용으로 사용되는 타이어코드는 타이어의 성능과 수명을 좌우하는 중요 요소가 된다[1]. 타이어코드용 PET섬유는 타이어 내에서 계속적인 신장, 굽힘 및 압축변형 등의 물리적 피로를 받고 있기 때문에 이들로 인하여 내피로성이 아주 중요한 의미를 가진다. 이러한 타이어코드용 섬유의 내피로성에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 것은 섬유의 미세구조인데 주로 결정영역보다는 비결정영역의 구조이고, 피로를 가했을 때 크랙의 성장으로 인해 내피로성이 감소하며 파단이 일어난다.   • In this paper, the creep properties and creep life prediction by Larson-Miller Parameter method for Udimet 720 to be used for aircraft gas turbine engines or other high temperature components were presented at the elevated temperatures of 538, 649 and $704^{\circ}C$. It was confirmed experimentally and quantitatively that a creep life predictive equation at such various high temperatures was well derived by LMP.

  • The fatigue life and crack penetration behavior of high strength steel have been studied in detail both experimentally and analytically. The fatigue crack shape of a smooth specimen is almost semicircular, while a specimen with stress concentration becomes semielliptical according to stress concentration shape. The aspect ratio of smooth specimens calculated using the Newman-Raju's formular is smaller than the value obtained from the experiment. On the other hand, the aspect ratio of the stress concentration specimen shows a good agreement with experimental results. It is found that the crack growth behavior on the back surface after the penetration is unique and can be divided into three stages ; rapid growth region, constant growth region and acceleration growth region. By using the K value suggested in this study, the particular crack growth behavior and crack shape can be estimated quantitatively.

  • The leak-before-break(LBB) design on the large structures such as ship's hull, tank structure, pressure vessels etc. is one of the most inportant subjects for the evaluation and the assurance of safety. In these structures, various loads are acting. In some structural members, therefore, out-of-plane stress due to bending often may become with in-plane stress due to stretching. In the present report, the characteristics of fatigue life and peneration behaviour from a surface cracked plate under combined tension and bending have been studied experimentally and analytically by using eccentricity. Estimation of fatigue crack growth was done with the Newman-Raju formula before penetration, and with the stress intensity factor after penetration proposed by the author. Calculated aspect ratio showed the good agreement with the experimental result. It was also found that particular crack growth behaviour and crack shape after penetration can be satisfactorily evaluated using the K solution proposed.

  • A method for the retardation of fatigue crack growth using ring indentation at the vicinity of a crack is examined. Residual stresses near crack tip are evaluated using fracture mechanics approach using the Bueckner weight function. The motivation is to develop a simple and effective method for obtaining an increase in fatigue lives to total failure of materials with crack. Fatigue testing of aluminum specimen showed that the retardation effects are observed after the application of the method.

  • This paper presents the experimental examinations and statistical quantitative analysis of the correlation between the cumulative counts of acoustic emission(AE) during plastic deformation periods of the welding and the tensile strength and other properties of the tube-to-tube welded joints of O.D. 30mm (I.D 18mm) nozzle steel. This is a new approach which attempts finally to develop real-time quality monitoring system for friction welding. And this study results in practical possiblility of real-time quality control more than 100% joint efficiency showing good weld no micro structural defects.

  • In this paper an experimental study on the development of the shielded metal are welding(SMAW) optimization technique for the dissimilar materials SS41 and STS304 of Auto-Lifting Magnet core plate was carried out. It was confirmed that the optimum welding heat input range was 37.5 to 45 kj/cm by considering on the strength and fatigue life of the welded joints more than 100% joint efficiency. And the quantitative relationship empirical wquation between the strength toughness adn fatigue life and the weld heat input was obtained.

엔진 오일의 공기 혼입과 윤활 특성

  • 여러 가지 필수적인 윤활유 성상과 함께 요즘 개발된 엔진에서 요구되는 중요한 특성 중 하나가 윤활유 내의 공기 혼입(aeration) 문제이다. 만일 윤활유 내에 공기가 일정 한도 이상 혼입되면 윤활유가 수행하는 일반 기능 중 하중을 분산시키는 압력 분산 작용과 윤활 작용 및 마찰열을 식혀 주는 냉각 작용이 제대로 되지 않아 엔진 수명과 내구성에 심각한 문제를 초래한다. 특히 현재 밸브 소음 저감 및 정비성 향상을 위해 대부분의 엔진에서 채용하고 있는 hydraulic valve lash adjuster(HLA)에 미치는 영향이 가장 심각하다. HLA는 그 작동 특성이 엔진 오일의 비 압축성을 이용하고 있기 때문에 만일 HLA 내부의 고압실에 공기가 오일에 섞여 들어간다변 밸브 시스템 강성이 떨어지게 되어 오히려 HLA 사용 목적에 반해 밸크 이상 거동에 의한 소음이 유발될 뿐만 아니라 심하면 밸브가 파단되는 심각한 현상이 초래되기도 한다. 상기한 바와 같이 aeration 현상은 경우에 따라 매우 심각한 문제를 유발하기도 하며 엔진이 고속 고출력화 하면서 그 특성은 더욱 관심사가 되어 왔다. 따라서 엔진 각 부분의 올바른 기능과 신뢰성 확보를 위해 aeration의 특징 발생 원인 및 대책을 살펴보고 특히 oil aeration이 HLA와 엔진 베어링에 미치는 영향에 대해 분석 고찰해 봄으로써 그 특성을 이해하고자 한다.

  • A minimum commitment method (MCM) was applied to predict the creep rupture life of type 316LN SS. For this purpose, a number of the creep rupture data for the type 316LN SS were collected through literature survey and experimental data of KAERl, Using the short-term creep rupture data under 2000 hr, the long-term creep rupture life above $10^5$ hour was predicted by means of the MCM. An optimum value of A, P and G function, used in the MCM equation, was determined respectively, and the creep rupture life with the A values in different temperatures was compared with the experimental data and the predicted curves.

  • In this study, a small punch creep(SP-Creep) test using miniaturized specimen(10${\times}$10${\times}$0.5mm) is described to develop the new creep test method for high temperature structural materials. The SP-Creep test is applied to 2.25Cr-lMo(STBA24) steel which is widely used as boiler tube material. The test temperatures applied for the creep deformation of miniaturized specimens are between 550∼600$^{\circ}C$. The SP-Creep curves depend definitely on applied load and creep temperature, and show the three stages of creep behavior like in conventional uniaxial tensile creep curves. The load exponent of miniaturized specimen decreases with increasing test temperature, and its behavior is similar to stress exponent behavior of uniaxial creep test. The creep activation energy obtained from the relationship between SP-Creep rate and test temperature decreases as the applied load increases. A predicting equation or SP-Creep rate for 2.25Cr-lMo steel is suggested. and a good agreement between experimental and calculated data has been found.
