The Synthesis of Sodium Titanate by the Ion Exchange of H+/Na+ from Hydrous Titanium Dioxide and its Phase Transition (Hydrous Titanium Dioxide로부터 H+/Na+의 이온교환에 의한 티탄산나트륨의 합성 및 성전이)

  • Fibrous $Na_xTi_nO_{2n+1}$ whisker was prepared by $H^+/Na^+$ ion-exchange on layered hydrous titanium dioxide ($H_2Ti_4O_9{\cdot}nH_2O$). The ion-exchange reaction was proceeded at 0.5~2.0 M NaOH solution. In the ion-exchange at 2.0 M NaOH solution, 73% of sodium was exchanged and the prepared $Na_xTi_nO_{2n+1}$ whisker was a fibrous crystal of about $10{\sim}20{\mu}m$ of length and about $0.7{\mu}m$ of diameter. The phase transition of the ion-exchange phases identified by the thermal analysis. The result showed that the $Na_xTi_nO_{2n+1}$ whisker was decomposed into $Na_2Ti_6O_{13}$ and $TiO_2$ in the temperature of $200{\sim}600^{\circ}C$.

Preparation of Porous K2Ti6O13 Whisker Preform by Spark Plasma Sintering (방전 플라즈마 소결법에 의한 다공성 육티탄산 칼륨 휘스커 프리폼의 제조)

  • In order to develope the porous $K_2Ti_6O_13$ whisker preform with good strength, the pore characteristics and compressive strength were investigated as a function of spark plasma sintering temperature. As a result, high porous whisker preform were successfully fabricated by sintering at 900∼950${\circ}C$ for 10 min under a pressure of 40 MPa, heating rate of 50${\circ}C$/min and on-off pulse type of 12:2. The whisker preform prepared under above optimum condition showed relatively high compressive strength of 174∼266 MPa, despite of high porosity ranging from 15% to 37%. This improvement in strength was considered to be mainly due to the spark-plasma discharges and the self-heating action between whiskers. The compressive strength of whisker preform, fabricated at sintering temperature less than 900${\circ}C$, showed 80∼100 MPa. This is low strength level less than one half times compared with whisker preform fabricated at 900∼950${\circ}C$. The whisker preform fabricated at 1000${\circ}C$ showed the highest compressive strength of 523 MPa, but resulted in low porosity of ∼5%. Based on above results, it was considered that spark plasma sintering was an effective method for developing high strength and porosity of whisker preform.

  • Most mechanical systems are now operating consistently and getting faster due to the development of automation systems. Peoples' dependence on machines have increased as when problems occur within the mechanical system, personal injury and production loss may come as a result, as most of the mechanical system's malfunctions are caused by the failure of the rotational bearing. What we need now is a maintenance system that can warn us when it detects abnormal conditions before significant damage occurs to the bearing. In this study, we have developed an acoustic emissions sensor that can figure if the bearing works under the normal condition. With this acoustic emissions sensor, we can inspect the bearing for defects by using the Heterodyne technique, which converts the ultrasound signal into audio, as a signal conditioning process.

Antifuse with Ti-rich barium titanate film and silicon oxide film (과잉 Ti 성분의 티탄산 바륨과 실리콘 산화막으로 구성된 안티퓨즈)

  • This paper is focused on the fabrication of reliable novel antifuse, which could operate at low voltage along with the improvement in OFF and ON-state properties. The fabricated antifuse consists of Al/BaTi$_{2}$O$_{3}$/SiO$_{2}$/TiW-silicide structure. Through the systematic analyses for bottom metal and the intermetallic insulator, material and electri cproperties were investiaged. TiW-silicide as the bottom electrode had smooth surface with average roughness of 11.angs. at 10X10.mu.m$^{2}$ and was bing kept as-deposited SiO$_{2}$ film stable. Amorphous BaTi$_{2}$O$_{3}$ film as the another insulator was chosen because of its low breakdown strength (2.5MV/cm). breakdown voltage of antifuse is remarkably reduced by using BaTi$_{2}$O$_{3}$ film, and leakage current of that maintained low level due to the SiO$_{2}$ film. Low ON-resistance (46.ohm./.mu.m$^{2}$) and low programming voltage(9.1V) can be obtained in theses antifuses with 220.angs. double insulator layer and 19.6X10$^{-6}$ cm$^{2}$ area, while keeping sufficient OFF-state reliability (less than 1nA).

  • (BaSr)$TiO_3$ (BST) thick films were prepared by tape casting method, using $BaTiO_3$ and $SrTiO_3$ powder slurry and their dielectric properties were investigated. With an additive, $Li_2CO_3$, the sintering temperature was lowered by $200^{\circ}C$. Sintering density was 5.7 g/$cm^3$ and the BST thick films exhibited a maximum dielectric constant, tunability at temperatures near phase transition point. Whilst their characteristics were deteriorated above the phase transition temperature, they were unchanged below the phase transition temperature, which is presumedly due to the acceleration of $90^{\circ}$ domain formation, its contribution to the relaxation of internal stress and the increase in sintering according to the replacement of Li.

  • Fabricatio of the potassium-titanate fiber with K2O${\cdot}nTiO_2$ composition and coating of electrically conductive Sb-doped $SnO_2$ (ATO: Antimony Tin Oxide) layer on the fiber on the fiber were the fiber were the aims of this work. The fiber fabricated by slow-cooling technique showed the mean length of $15{\mu}m$ and mean diameter of $0.5{\mu}m$. Three different coating methods i.e, sol-gel, co-precipitation and urea technique, were attempted to coat the conductive ATO layer on the potassium-titanate fiber. The influences of coating method, concentrations of ATO(5∼70wt%) and Sb (0∼20wt%), temperature in the range of $450\;to\;800^{\circ}C$, number of washing (3∼4 times) on the resistivity of the ATO coated fiber were examined in details. The fiber coated ATO by coprecipitation exhibited lower resistivity of 103${\Omega}{\cdot}$cm at the 30 wt% of ATO, and showed nearly constant low value of $60{\Omega}{\cdot}cm\;to\;90{\Omega}{\cdot}$cm at the higher concentration of ATO.

Relationship between intake of soft drinks and current prevalence of adult atopic dermatitis: based on the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data (2015-2016) (탄산음료 섭취와 성인 아토피 피부염 진단 및 현재 유병과의 관련성: 국민건강영양조사(2015-2016년) 자료를 바탕으로)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for the management of atopic dermatitis (AD) in adults by analyzing the relationship between AD and intake of soft drinks in adults. Methods: This study was conducted on 5,931 adults aged 19 to 64 who completed the food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) for participants in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey VII-3 and VII-1. Subjects were divided into an AD-diagnosed group and a non-AD group according to the diagnosis of AD. In addition, the group diagnosed with AD was divided into a 'symptom-AD' group and a 'no symptom-AD' group. The amount, frequency of intake, and nutritional status of soft drinks were analyzed using the FFQ. Results: Compared with the nutrient intake per 1,000 kcal of energy consumption, fat intake was higher in the AD-diagnosed group than in the non-AD group, and carbohydrate, dietary fiber, calcium, phosphorus, iron, potassium, vitamin A, thiamin, and vitamin C were lower in AD-diagnosed group. The daily intake of soft drinks and the percentage of 'more than 0.5 servings per day' were also higher in the AD-diagnosed group than in the non-AD group. Also, the frequency of the intake of soft drinks was significantly higher in the AD-diagnosed group than in the non-AD group. The odds ratio of AD symptoms due to the intake of soft drinks increased 2.6 times when the intake was 'less than 0.5 serving per day'. Conclusion: AD in adults appears to be related to malnutrition and excessive consumption of soft drinks, and the current prevalence of AD symptoms may also be related to the intake of soft drinks. Based on these results, we suggest that one of the ways to manage AD in adults would be to limit their intake of soft drinks.

Preparation and Properties of Cordierite Aluminium Titanate Composites (코디에라이트-티탄산알루미늄 복합체의 제조 및 특성)

  • The densification behaviro and resulting properties of cordierite-aluminium titanate composites containing 5 to 40wt.% aluminium titanate were investigated. Compared with cordierite monolithics a substantial increase of sintering temperature range for composites was observed, which was due to the formation of cordierite and glass phase at relatively low temperatures. The bending strength of composites showed its maximum at 30wt.% aluminium titanate content, which was about 50% increase relative to the cordierite monolithics, then decreased by a small amount at 40wt.% aluminium titanate content. The decrease was explained by the increase of microcracks whose presence was confirmed by the hysteresis of thermal expansion curve of composites. However, the microcracks formed was not severe enough to produce a significant decrease in strength, which was also evidenced by the continuous increase of thermal expansion coefficient up to 40wt.% aluminium titanate content.

  • Hydroxyapatite/titanium composites were prepared as 4-layered functionally graded materials (FGM) using a spark plasma sintering (SPS) apparatus. The maximum density and the biaxial strength of hydroxyapatite/titanium composites were achieved by SPS with a holding time 8 minutes at $1200^{\circ}C$. However, the hydroxyapatite was decomposed tetracalcium phosphate (TetCP) at $1100^{\circ}C$, and calcium titanate compounds ($CaTiO_3$) were formed. When titanium was added to hydroxyapatite, decomposition of hydroxyapatite was occurred easily at the low temperature.

The Effect of Nitric Acid Catalyst on the Properties of Lead Titanate Thin Films by Sol Gel Spin Coating (졸겔 스핀 코팅에서 질산촉매가 티탄산연 박막의 물성에 미치는 영향)

  • High quality lead titanate thin films were fabricated by spin coating on a silicon substrate. The resulting dried gel layers were uniform in thickness through 2$\times$2 $\textrm{cm}^2$ area, and polycrystalline perovskite structures developed almost crack free with a heat treatment above 50$0^{\circ}C$ in films with thickness above 360 nm. Metastable pyrochlore structures were observed in films with thickness of 160 nm when heat treated at 500 and $600^{\circ}C$, but these structure did not appear in films with thickness of 360 nm. The thickness dependence in crystal structure of films was studied. by varying the substrate condition and analyzing the interface between the film and substrate. In native oxide films on silicon stbstrates, amorphous dried gel layers were heterogeneously nucleated. Metastable cubic pyrochlore structure could be crystallized in amorphous native oxide.
