  • Analysis of social media such as Twitter can yield interesting perspectives to understanding human behavior, detecting hot issues, identifying influential people, or discovering a group and community. However, it is difficult to gather the data relevant to specific topics due to the main characteristics of social media data; data is large, noisy, and dynamic. This paper proposes a new algorithm that dynamically selects the seed nodes to efficiently collect tweets relevant to topics. The algorithm utilizes attributes of users to evaluate the user influence, and dynamically selects the seed nodes during the collection process. We evaluate the proposed algorithm with real tweet data, and get satisfactory performance results.

Twitter Sentiment Analysis for the Recent Trend Extracted from the Newspaper Article (신문기사로부터 추출한 최근동향에 대한 트위터 감성분석)

  • We analyze public opinion via a sentiment analysis of tweets collected by using recent topic keywords extracted from newspaper articles. Newspaper articles collected within a certain period of time are clustered by using K-means algorithm and topic keywords for each cluster are extracted by using term frequency. A sentiment analyzer learned by a machine learning method can classify tweets according to their polarity values. We have an assumption that tweets collected by using these topic keywords deal with the same topics as the newspaper articles mentioned if the tweets and the newspapers are generated around the same time. and we tried to verify the validity of this assumption.

Improving Twitter Search Function Using Twitter API (트위터 API를 활용한 트위터 검색 기능 개선)

  • The basic search engine on Twitter shows not only tweets that contain search keywords, but also all articles written by users with nicknames containing search keywords. Since the tweets unrelated to the search keyword are exposed as search results, it is inconvenient to many users who want to search only tweets that include the keyword. To solve this inconvenience, this study improved the search function of Twitter by developing an algorithm that searches only tweets that contain search keywords. The improved functionality is implemented as a Web service using ASP.NET MVC5 and is available to many users. We used a powerful collection method in C# to retrieve the results of an object, and it was also possible to output them according to the number of 'retweets' or 'favorites'. If the number of retrieved numbers is less than a given number, we also added an exclusion filter function. Thus, sorting search results by the number of retweets or favorites, user can quickly search for opinions that are of interest to many users. It is expected that many users and data analysts will find the developed function convenient to search on Twitter.

  • 트위터에서 정치 성향을 가지거나 관심이 있는 트위터 사용자는 관심있는 정치 인물이나 단체에 대한 뉴스 기사에 대해 자신의 의견을 남기거나 그대로 인용하게 된다. 또한, 자신의 의견과 공감하거나 비공감하는 트윗에 대해서 리트윗을 하거나 추가적인 자신의 의견을 언급하기도 한다. 본 논문에서는 이슈가 되고있는 정치 뉴스 기사에 대해 관심 있는 트위터 사용자들을 찾아 트위터 사용자들 간의 트윗 문서들 사이에서의 관계 정보를 가지는 사용자 네트워크에서의 트위터 사용자들의 성향을 분류해주는 방법을 제안한다. 제안한 방법의 유효성을 검증하기 위해 트위터에서 이슈가 된 정치 뉴스 기사들과 각 뉴스 이슈를 언급한 트위터 데이터에서 트윗 문서 내용 유사도 기반 분류 방법과의 비교 실험 하였다. 실험 결과에서 사용자간의 관계 정보를 이용한 성향 분류 방법이 유효함을 보였다.

Significance Analysis of Yellow Dust Related Disease Using Tweet Data (트윗 데이터를 이용한 황사 관련 질병 유의성 분석)

  • Damages have occurred in various fields such as agriculture, industry, and citizen's health due to the yellow dust. Therefore, it is urgent to take measures against it. In this regard, this study collected data of yellow dust over 11 days on a basis of Feb. 23. 2015 when yellow dust was the greatest after 2009, issue words analysis and recomposed health related tweet data. After testing the significance of yellow dust related diseases by association rule analysis with diseases, it obtained the study results as follows: As a result of significance test for the patients with rhinitis, asthma and conjunctivitis by acquiring the condition data of patients from the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service, conjunctivitis appeared to be significant in 13 cities for 16 cities at 5% significance probability, while asthma and rhinitis showed a significance in 3 and 6 areas. As described above, it is possible to obtain information about citizens' health from SNS data, such as Tweet data and it is judged that these data will provide useful information for establishing measures of citizens' health care.

A Study on the Movement Characteristics of Geotweet Users: A Comparative Study on Domestic and International Movements (지오트윗 사용자의 이동 특성 분석에 관한 연구: 국내 이동과 해외 이동 비교 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to find the characteristics of the foreign and domestic travels and to seek out the significance of the study, by grouping the geotweets users who moved abroad, according to the average and the standard deviation of moving distances. Geotweets which caused foreign and domestic travels occurred divided, after building a data mart and the moving distances of users were measured by using the Haversine formula. It has moved more often among groups of foreign travelers in countries that use the same language and have similar lifestyles. There has been a lot of movement in developed countries with well-established infrastructure in a group of domestic travelers. This study tried to draw common features, by calculating the travel distances by each user and grouped users according to the characteristics of user's moving distances. There are significant differences in national economic power, age, jobs, etc. among users from a total of 21 countries analyzed by this study, so a more precise analysis would be able to be conducted, only if the whole conditions are considered. A future study should additionally consider real factors.

The Effect of Opinion Congruency with Twitter Influentials on Opinion Expression: The Interaction Effect of Influential Type (트위터 유력자와의 의견일치여부가 의견표명에 미치는 영향: 유력자 유형의 상호작용효과를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of twitter influenctials on users' willingness on express opinions. Based on the spiral of silence and corrective action hypothesis, the contradictory hypotheses were drawn. The online expeiment was conducted to verify which hypothesis is valid. Participant were assigned to the four experimenatal conditons: a famous influential's twit which agrees with the issue; a famous influential's twit which disagrees with the issue; an ordinary influential's twit to agree with the issue; an ordinary influential's twit to disagree with the issue. Results showed that opinion congruency with a twitter influential did not influence participants' willingness to express opinion online and offline, but the interaction effect with the type of influentials was found. Opinion dissonance with an ordinary tiwtterian increased willingness to express opinion. The findings suggest that twitter influentials, particulary an ordinary influentials with differnet opinions, can motivate users to express their own opinion.

Top retweets was to evaluate the process of debate, regardless of the issue. Tweeter complements the TV so Twitter has made public opinion. Smart phones and SNS Twitter, combined with the TV and the participation and direct democracy, voters vote one instrument was realized. Should forward approval ratings, real-time Twitter subtitles on the TV screen in TV debate Twitter influence in the election will be greatly expanded.

Tweet Acquisition System by Considering Location Information and Tendency of Twitter User (트위터 사용자의 위치정보와 성향을 고려한 트윗 수집 시스템)

  • While SNS services such as Twitter or Facebook are rapidly growing, research for the SNS analysis has been concerned. Especially, twitter reacts to social issues in real-time so that it is used to get useful experimental data for researchers of social science or information retrieval. However, it is still lack of research on the methodology to collect data. Therefore, this paper suggests the tweet acquisition system by considering tendency of twitter user oriented location-based event and political social event. First the system acquires tweets including information of location and keyword about event and secure IDs for acquisition of political social event. Then we plan ID-analyzer to classify the tendency of users. In addition for measuring reliability of ID-analyzer, it acquires and analyzes the tweet by using high-ranked ID. In analyses result, top-ranked ID shows 88.8% reliability, 2nd-ranked ID shows 76.05% and ID-analyzer shows 77.5%, it shortens collection time by using minority ID.

A Content Analysis on the Domestic Public Libraries' Use of Twitter (국내 공공도서관의 트위터 이용에 관한 내용분석)

  • This study aims to identify and analyze the Twitter use of domestic public libraries. In order to identify the detailed patterns of Twitter use in library and information services, a content analysis was conducted for the 3,038 tweet data from the top 14 public libraries' accounts on Twitter use. Inductive approach was adopted to develop a coding scheme and open coding was conducted with the entire tweet. Additionally, correspondence analysis was conducted for the result of content analysis to identify how library accounts correspond to specific types. As a result, 3 main categories and 9 sub-categories of public libraries' Twitter use were developed. And the 37 detailed patterns of public libraries' use of Twitter were identified. The identified patterns can provide the libraries interested in Twitter use with guidelines.
