The Effect of Sea Water Containing Heavy Oil on RO Membrane (유탁해수의 RO막에 대한 영향)

  • An experimental study regarding the effect of emulsions on RO is presented. Heavy oil was added to the sea water and the distilled water separately and treated for 30 minutes by a homogenizer to make emulsions. For the case of the sea water without heavy oil the permeate decreased from the beginning of the experiment. Chloride and conductivity increased with time, due to the fouling occurring as the suspended solids in the sea water accumulated on the membrane surface. Rejection rate of salt was 99.6~99.7%. As for the sea water containing heavy oil, the permeate decreased slowly from the beginning of the experiment. This result was the same for the case of the sea water only. However. chloride and conductivity increased significantly when heavy oil was added. In the second experiment with sea water containing heavy oil, the operation time of RO was reduced considerably. With addition of oil, the chloride increased greatly, while the permeate reduced comparatively. In the experiment where emulsion of $0.3{\sim}0.8mg/{\ell}$ was supplied to RO. oil concentration was about 10ppb in the permeate at the end of the experiment. In case of the distilled water containing heavy oil. the conductivity increased. However. the permeate reduced to 30% compared to the case of the sea water containing heavy oil. The case of sea water containing heavy oil showed an opposite result, but the effect of the addition of oil on RO was significant. Oil caused fouling of the RO and the contamination of the whole system, and as the result the system could not be operated properly. As a result the membrane capacity, the amount and water quality of permeate deteriorated significantly.

Comparison of Agronomic Traits According to Plant Types before Wintering in Malting Barley Lines (맥주맥의 월동전 초형에 따른 주요 형질의 비교)

  • So as to compare the differences of major agronomic traits according to fall plant types, two cultivars and eight lines which were derived from the same pedigree, were planted and analyzed. The heading and mature times, and culum length of erect plant types were earlier or longer, but the spike number per ㎡ and yield were smaller than the those of prostrate types. Also, 1000 grain weith, assortment rate and light penetration rate in erect types were greater than in prostrate types. The heading time was positively correlated with mature time and yield, but negatively correlated with culum length, 1000 grain weight, assortment rate and light penetration rate. Yield was negatively correlated with light penetration rate. If the lines with prostrate types in fall season, fast regrowth after wintering and rapid elongation of stem were bred and selected, it will be of great benefit in the area requiring sever winter hardiness.

Impact of Characteristics of Polymeric Al Coagulants PACl and Alum on Membrane Flux and Fouling of Microfiltration (PACl 및 Alum 응집제 특성이 정밀여과막 투과수량 및 막오염에 미치는 영향)

  • The objectives of this research are to investigate coagulation efficiencies of two coagulants l.e., alum and polyaluminum chloride and to understand effects of the coagulants on membrane fouling in microfiltration. The turbidity of supernatant from alum coagulation was increased with increasing doses whereas the turbidity from PACl coagulation was maintained at the low values. The observed injection volume of PACl for the same removal was approximately 30 percent less than alum, which produced a low sludge volume. The settling velocity of PACl flocs was greater than alum flocs. The results corresponded well with floc size measurements. Flux decline from alum coagulation was significant due in part to small sizes of flocs. At the low dose, alum floc had less specific cake resistance than PACl floc. However, as the dosage was increased, the increases in specific cake resistances of alum was substantial. Alum coagulation pretreatment needs careful operation to reduce membrane fouling by flocs. In general, PACl coagulants were more effective than alum coagulants for pretreatment of membrane processes because PACl showed the better performance in coagulation and membrane fouling.

Permeation Property of Each Stage in Three Stage Reverse Osmosis System for Cold-mill Wastewater Reuse (냉연공장 폐수재이용을 위한 3단 역삼투시스템에서 각 단별 투과특성 연구)

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the permeation properties of each stage in three stage reverse osmosis system for cold-mill wastewater reuse. After construction of the three staged pilot plant which had 75% recovery and equipped with seven plate-and-frame modules, the change of each stage's penneate flow and quality were investigated in the process of membrane fouling. The order of average permeate flow was first, second, and third stage at the beginning. As the operation time passed, the permeate flow of first stage was decreased, the second stage was maintained steadily, and the third stage was increased. Accordingly, the fouling was initiated at the first stage and then progressed to the second and third stage. The first stage's permeate quality showed the best and the second and third stage was the next in that order. And the order of quality was maintained during the test periods. Therefore, the permeate quality was not affected by membrane fouling.

Assessment of Power Generation by Pressure Retarded Osmosis Process from Spiral-Wound Membrane Pilot-Plant (나권형 모듈을 이용한 압력지연삼투 공정의 에너지생산에 관한 연구)

  • Pressure retarded osmosis (PRO) is a quite new technique for power generation using an osmotically driven membrane process. In the PRO process, water permeates through a semipermeable membrane from a low concentration feed solution to a high concentration draw solution due to osmotic pressure. This study carried out to evaluate the performance of the 8 in spiral wound membrane module using reverse osmosis concentrate for a draw solution and reverse osmosis permeate for a feed solution. Three different flowrates of draw and feed solution, such as 2.4 L/min, 5.0 L/min, and 10.0 L/min were used to estimate the power density and water flux under various range of hydraulic pressure differences between 5 bar and 30 bar. In addition, the effects of feed and draw solution concentration, flowrate, and mixing ratio on 8 in spiral wound PRO membrane module performance were investigated in this study. As major results, increases of the draw solution concentration lead to the improvement of power denstiy, and water flux. Also, increase of flowrate resulted in the improvement of power density and water flux. In addition, optimal mixing ratio of draw and feed solution inlet flowrate was found to be 1:1 to attain a maximum power denstiy.

Characterization and Seawater Filtration Performance of Commerical Microfiltration and Ultrafiltration Membranes (상업용 정밀여과/한외여과막의 특성 분석 및 해수 여과 성능 평가)

  • This paper was to analyze the membrane characterization of hydrophilicity, surface morphology and membrane chemical anlysis of three commercial microfiltration/ultrafiltration membranes, and evaluate the filtration performance of a seawater to assess the availability for pretreatment of desalination process. From the results of contact angle, Mem-3, fabricated with polyacrylonitrile, was highly hydrophilic. It find out that Mem-3 has more anti-biofouling property. In Field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), Mem-1 (polyethylene) and Mem-2 (Polyvinylidenefluoride) showed the sponge-like shape and Mem-3 showed finger-like shape. Membrane chemical analysis by energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) presented that Mem-2 was mostly fluoride and Mem-3 had s high ratio of N (32.47%) due to the nitrile group. The permeation flowrate per time on suction pressures using deionized water (D.I. water) tends that permeation rate of Mem-3 more increased when the pressure was increased compared to other membranes. From the results of turbidity and total suspended solids (TSS) removal, turbidity of permeate was 0.191 NTU to 0.406 NTU and TSS was 2.2 mg/L to 3.0 mg/L in all membranes, indicating that it was not suitable for the pretreatment of seawater desalination by short-term experiments.

Study on the Water Consumption of Cucumber in the Greenhouse (온실 재배작물인 오이의 소비수량 고찰)

  • 실험기간 중 실내 평균기온과 상대습도는 외부보다 각각 $1.5^{\circ}C$ 및 3.9%정도 다소 높게 나타났다. 그리고 일사량 투과율은 약 47%정도로서 6.51MJ정도였다. 포장재배의 경우가 포트재배의 경우보다 주당 옆면적, 간장 및 수확량이 많았다. 그리고 포장의 총수확량은 3,901g/p1ant로서 포트재배 평균 2,853g/plant 보다 많게 나타났다. 총소비수량은 각각 약 1,394mm, 819mm정도로서 포트재배의 경우가 약 2배정도 많게 나타났다. 실내 평균기온, 최저상대습도 및 일사량과 소비수량과의 상관관계를 살펴보면, 평균기온과 일사량과는 깊은 상관이 있었으나, 그 이외에는 상관이 거의 없는 것으로 나타났다. 작물환경요소인 간장과 소비수량과는 밀접한 상관관계가 있었고, 엽면적 및 수확량과 소비수량과의 상관관계는 조금 떨어지는 것으로 나타났다. 요수량은 포장재배의 경우가 8.6mm/g이었고, 포트재배의 경우는 10.5mm/g정도이었다.

Desalinization of Tidal Saline Soil and Water Requirement (개흙의 제염(除鹽)과 세척수량(洗滌水量))

  • Water requirement for desalinization was studied in column experiment filled with a tidal saline soil treated with gypsum partially, one half of the gypsum was mixed to the top one tenth and the other half was spread on the surface of the column soil. Different doses of percolates were collected and analysed with sectionalized column soils after the last percolation. Results obtained are as follows ; 1. One point seven(1.7) times of percolate was enough to desaline sodium from the tidal saline soil to bring the activity ratio of $Na/{\sqrt{Ca+Mg)}}$ to 0.10 at which the mean % Na to the sum of cations was $1.64{\pm}0.57$, but for magnessium, twice as much the percalate as the saline soil was still not enough, so that the activity ratios, $(Na+{\sqrt{Mg}})/(K+{\sqrt{Ca}})$ of soil, at different depth were not contract to an equilibrium point. 2. Most free NaCl was washed out into 1.4 times of percolate to the saline soil There after which the leaching of K and Mg became obvious. 3. Iso ha lime curves of sodium were prepared for water requirement to desaline a tidal saline soil to a projected Na concentration and a predetermined soil depth.

Development of Capsule Filter for Protozoan Sampling (원생동물 채집 캡슐 개발)

  • 먹는 물에 존재하는 크립토스포리디움 및 지아디아등 기존의 표준 정수처리 공정에 의해 제거가 용이치 않은 원생동물 둥을 채집할 수 있는 미생물 검출 캡슐을 개발하였다. 본 장치의 여과필터는 고분자물질을 소재로 한 중공사 형태(Hollow Fiber Membrane)로 유효여과면적을 크게하였고, Pore size는 0.1㎛이다. 채집캡슐은 탁도에 따른 투과수량은 일차의 상관관계를 나타내며, 시간당 20ℓ를 투과시킬 때 탁도 7.0 NTU까지 가능함을 확인 할 수 있었다. 일차 시제품은 89.6-94.6%의 크립토스포리디움 및 72.6-78.6%의 지아디아 포낭을 회수하였고, 이차 시제품은 92.5-93.7%의 크립토스포리디움 및 81.3-88.2%의 지아디아 포낭을 회수하는 것으로 나타났다. 동일한 조건에서 외국제품은 84.0%의 크립토스포리디움 및 66.7%의 지아디아 포낭을 회수하는 것으로 나타났다.
