Among 74 patients who came to pain clinic to treat their backache, 37 patient were randomly allocated to experimental(finger-pressure therapy)group and another 37 patients were allocated to control(transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator)group. The extent of backache was compared before and after experiment by ANCOVA test at both groups(p<0.005). The reduction of pain level by visual analogue scale at experimental group was statistically significantly bigger than control group when motion with front flexion(1.92), extension after front flexion(2.22), right flexion(1.23), and left flexion(1.21)(p<0.05).

The purpose of this study was to test the reliability of visual analog scale in assessing the degree of acute pain related to blood sugar test. A sample of 113 subjects is composed of 56 DM patients and 57 their family who are admitted in a ward of medical part of C university hospital in Gwangju. Data are collected from July, 2001 to December, 2001. The degree of pain is twice measured in a week interval. Correlations were moderate between times in DM patients group and healty group. In both measures, correlations were high between VAS score and the score of color pain circle measurement tool. Visual analog scale is methodologically sound instrument for assessment of acute pain. Further study will be needed to evaluate the correlation with physiology measurement.

Purpose: To evaluate the differences between blindly and ultrasonography (US)-guided during multiple needling and dextrose injection technique for calcific tendinitis of shoulder. Materials and Methods: We chose 36 symptomatic calcific tendinitis patients, whose age ranged from 27 to 69. Our procedures were multiple needling and injection of dextrose over the lesion of calcific deposits. The bind injection group were 19 patients whose age ranged from 27 to 64-year-old (mean 52.2), and the US-guided injection group were 17 patients ranged from 31 to 69-year-old (mean 49.0). We compare these groups by VAS (visual analogue scale) and range of motion before and after procedures. Results: There is no difference between two groups in VAS and ROM before procedure (p>0.05). Two groups revealed significant improvement without limitation of shoulder function, however, the group under US-guided revealed better results than under blind (VAS:p=0.001, Flexion:p=0.000, Abduction:p=0.000, External rotation: p=0.016). Conclusion: Ultrasonography-guided procedure showed better results than blind, so the use of ultrasonography is more promising procedure.

We investigated to compare the effects of a low intensity eccentric exercise and dynamic stretching on symptoms of delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). The eighteen women who had not participated in a regular exercise programme for the lower extremities in the previous five months were randomly assigned to one of three experimental groups: control group, a low intensity eccentric exercise group and dynamic stretching group. We measured the joint range of motion (ROM), maximal voluntary isometric exercise (MVIC), muscle soreness rating scale and ultrasound image measurement before eccentric exercise inducing DOMS, and 24, 48, and 72 hours after an eccentric exercise inducing DOMS. The exercise programme in a low intensity eccentric exercise group and dynamic stretching group were respectively performed 3 times a week for 4 weeks before eccentric exercise inducing DOMS. There was significantly different between the groups in muscle soreness rating scale and MVIC (p<.05). However, there was not significantly different between groups in ultrasound image measurement and ROM (p<.05). These results suggest that a low intensity eccentric exercise group and dynamic stretching group effectively reduced muscle soreness rating scale out of the symptoms of DOMS. A low intensity eccentric exercise group may be an effective improvement than dynamic stretching group in muscle soreness rating scale.
The purpose of this study was to investigate impact of wearing low-level current wrist guards on pain scale, range of motion (ROM), and muscle strength in elderly women with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). Subjects were 12 elderly women aged between 65 and 85 years who were diagnosed with CTS symptoms. Measurements included grip strength and wrist ROM. Wrist ROM was assessed through flexion and dorsiflexion. Wrist guards were worn. After two weeks, pain level was assessed using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Results showed a significant reduction in VAS score in the MES group after stimulation, whereas there was no difference in the control group. However, there was no significant difference in ROM between the MES group and the control group. Grip strength increased in the MES group after two weeks (p ≤ 0.001). In conclusion, clinical trials suggest that MES wrist guards might be provided as an adjunctive treatment method for CTS patients. This study provides foundational data for the design and use of auxiliary devices such as gloves in the field of MES research for pain reduction, ROM improvement, and muscle strength enhancement resulting from CTS.
This study aims to examine whether the use of a spinal column thermal massage device for patients with muscle pain is effective in improving muscle pain, and to verify whether it is also effective in improving affective depression and stress. To this end, 16 study participants (male 31.25%) were treated with a thermal massage device during 5 sessions a week for 4 weeks and 40 minutes per session. According to the study results, the subjective pain level changed by a rate of VAS -46.32% and PDI -44.86%; a significant decrease was observed in, both, VAS and PDI. The depression and stress levels changed by a rate of BDI -21.84% and SRI -11.48%; a significant decrease was observed in, both, BDI and SRI. Therefore, the use of a thermal massage device to treat patients with muscle pain is expected to have a positive effect in improving not only subjective muscle pain, but also depression and stress.
Personality characteristics of recurred TMD patients were analyzed psychologically by using the SCL-90-R. 27 recurred TMD patients, 45 new TMD patients, control I were subjected at Orofacial pain clinic, Department Of Oral Medicine and Health Promotion Center, Pusan National University Hospital during the period from 2005 to 2006. 50 general dental patients, control II were subjected at a local dental office in Pusan during the same period. The obtained results were as follows. 1. Mean values of T-scores on 9 basic scales in all the groups were within normal range. 2. The T-scores of IS, Dep, Phob, Psy in general Dental patient group were significantly higher than those in recurred TMD patient group. 3. As compared with recurred TMD patient Group & control I group by sexual subclass, there was no significant difference of the scales. 4. As compared with acute and chronic groups, there was no significant difference of the scales in recurred TMD patient group. However, the T-scores of Som, Par, Phob, Psy in chronic new TMD patient group were significantly higher than those in acute new TMD patient group, control I group.

There is exhibit a degree of pain in the occurrence and course of treatment levels or oral, pain rating scale actions, such as illness, for example, the discomfort scale because of the pain "annoying", "unpleasant" "annoyed am", "painful" represents a pain scale of the order of "painful", "hard to bear", "very difficult to bear". Depression is recognized based on the premise of the situation, because it is difficult to recognize themselves. In this paper we define the components of the depression can be seen lifestyle which can lead to depression or through a biological signal. The depression index was derived from the ontology modeling to understand the state of depression. Depression ontology components and depression index will be aware of the situation based information services for depression. Combined with the situational awareness based devices and can be synchronized to verify the results of the depression index. It will be applied to improve lifestyle factors that of depression.
