This study examined evaluation on stabilization of major and trace elements in tailings by various surface water-preventing materials. Six columns were filled with tailings of the Sinlim mine, then covered with tailings only, compacted soils, clay, soil-bentonite mixture, pozzolan and bentonite mat. After injection of artificial rain water, the leachate was sampled with times (3, 6, 9 and 12 pore volume) and analysed for major (Ca, Na, Mg, K) and trace elements (As, Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn) by ICP-AES. With exception to pozzolan type, the pH values of leachate from the other types became stabilized from 5.5 to 7.5, and EC (electric conductivity) of leachate from them decreased with times. For the pozzolan type, however, the pH and EC of leachate increased with time due to its alkalinity producing system. Concentrations of most major and trace elements in leachate decreased and stabilized with time. Consequently, soil-bentonite mixed cover shows the best ability of water-preventing and reducing mobility of elements in tailings site.
Step-drawdown pumping tests for identifying the improvement of groundwater well performance after rehabilitation treatments were conducted in three longstanding wells. Three selective mechanical treatment methods including power bubble, high-voltage electric pulse, and air surging were applied to these wells and the applicability of these methods to secure additional groundwater resources were evaluated quantitatively. Commonly, drawdown at final stage of stepdrawdown pumping tests after rehabilitation decreased by as much as 0.61~0.70 meters compared to those before rehabilitation. In addition, final specific drawdown values of three wells increased from 9% to 14% after rehabilitation. Formation loss coefficient and well loss coefficient decreased to 6.1% and 60.6%, respectively, indicating some clogging materials by precipitation/corrosion/microbe within pores of aquifer materials, gravel packs, and screens were effectively removed by applied methods. Decrease of formation loss coefficient was higher in the well applied by the power bubble method meanwhile high-voltage electric pulse method demonstrated the higher decrease of well loss coefficient. Additionally secured groundwater amounts after rehabilitation ranged from 23.3 to 32.1 m3/day, which account for 8~16% of initially developed pumping rates of the wells. From the results of this study, the effective selection of rehabilitation treatments considering aquifer characteristics are expected to contribute to secure groundwater resources for irrigation as well as to plan systematic management program for groundwater resources in rural area.
An increase of groundwater flux in BHE system creates that ground temperature (locT) becomes lower in summer and higher in winter time. In other words, it improves significantly the performance of BHE system. The size of thermal plume made up by advection driven-flow under the balanced energy load is relatively small in contrast to the unbalanced energy load where groundwater flow causes considerable change in the size of thermal plume as well ground temperature. The ground temperatures of the up gradient and down gradient BHEs under conduction only heat transport are same due to no groundwater flow. But a significant difference of the ground temperature is observed between the down gradient and up gradient BHE as a result of groundwater flow-driven thermal interference took placed in BHE field. As many BHEs are designed under the obscure assumption of negligible groundwater flow, failure to account for advection can cause inefficiencies in system design and operation. Therefore including groundwater flow in the design procedure is considered to be essential for thermal and economic sustain ability of the BHE system.

This manuscript covers the results of field investigation and lab-scale experiments to design a double-layered biofilter system to control urban storm runoff. The biofilter system consisted of a coarse soil layer (CSL) for filtration and fine soil layer (FSL) for adsorption and biological degradation. The variations of flow rate and water quality of runoff from a local expressway were monitored for seven storm events. Laboratory column experiments were performed using seven kinds of soil and mulch to maximize pollutants removal. The site mean concentration (SMC) of storm runoff from the drainage area (runoff coefficient: 0.92) was measured to be 203 mg/L for SS, 307 mg/L for $TCOD_{Cr}$, 12.3 mg/L for TN, 7.3 mg/L for ${NH_4}^+-N$, and 0.79 mg/L for TP, respectively. This study employed a new design concept, to cover the maximum rainfall intensity with one month recurrence interval. Effective storms for last ten years (1998-2007) in seoul suggested the design rainfull intensity to be 8.8 mm/hr Single layer soil column showed the maximum removal rate of pollutants load when the uniformity coefficient of CSL was 1.58 and the silt/clay contents of FSL was virtually 7%. The removal efficiency during operation of double layer soil column was 98% for SS and turbidity, 75% for TCODCr, 56% for ${NH_4}^+-N$, 87% for TP, and 73-91% for heavy metals. The hydraulic conductivity of the soil column, 0.023 cm/sec, suggested that the surface area of the biofilter system should be about 1% of the drainage area to treat the rainfall intensity of one month recurrence interval.

To analyze the influence of various groundwater flow rates (specific discharge) on BHE system with balanced and unbalanced energy loads under assuming same initial temperature (15℃) of ground and groundwater, numerical modeling using FEFLOW was used for this study. When groundwater flow is increased from 1 × 10−7 to 4 × 10−7m/s under balanced energy load, the performance of BHE system is improved about 26.7% in summer and 22.7% at winter time in a single BHE case as well as about 12.0~18.6% in summer and 7.6~8.7% in winter time depending on the number of boreholes in the grid, their array type, and bore hole separation in multiple BHE system case. In other words, the performance of BHE system is improved due to lower avT in summer and higher avT in winter time when groundwater flow becomes larger. On the contrary it is decreased owing to higher avT in summer and lower avT in winter time when the numbers of BHEs in an array are increased, Geothermal plume created at down-gradient area by groundwater flow is relatively small in balanced load condition while quite large in unbalanced load condition. Groundwater flow enhances in general the thermal efficiency by transferring heat away from the BHEs. Therefore it is highly required to obtain and to use adequate informations on hydrogeologic characterristics (K, S, hydraulic gradient, seasonal variation of groundwater temperature and water level) along with integrating groundwater flow and also hydrogeothermal properties (thermal conductivity, seasonal variation of ground temperatures etc.) of the relevant area for achieving the optimal design of BHE system.

In order to verify relevance propriety as material for improving and replacing agricultural land of soil(the rest is sorting soil) produced in treatment process of construction waste, this study executed physical, mechanics and soil analysis test with mixing sorting soil and farm land, crops rearing comparison test with replacing lower layer soil.
IoT(Internet of Things) is applied to technologies such as agriculture and dairy farming, making it possible to cultivate crops easily and easily in cities. In particular, IoT technology that intelligently judge and control the growth environment of cultivated crops in the agricultural field is being developed. In this paper, we propose a method of predicting the growth environment of plants by learning the moisture supply cycle of plants using the intelligent object internet. The proposed system finds the moisture level of the soil moisture by mapping learning and finds the rules that require moisture supply based on the measured moisture level. Based on these rules, we predicted the moisture supply cycle and output it using media, so that it is convenient for users to use. In addition, in order to reduce the error of the value measured by the sensor, the information of each plant is exchanged with each other, so that the accuracy of the prediction is improved while compensating the value when there is an error. In order to evaluate the performance of the growth environment prediction system, the experiment was conducted in summer and winter and it was verified that the accuracy was high.
In the present study, an enhanced subsurface prediction algorithm based on a non-parametric geostatistical model and a history matching technique through Gibbs sampler is developed and the iterative prediction improvement procedure is proposed. The developed model is applied to a simple two-dimensional synthetic case where domain is composed of three different hydrogeologic media with $500m{\times}40m$ scale. In the application, it is assumed that there are 4 independent pumping tests performed at different vertical interval and the history curves are acquired through numerical modeling. With two hypothetical borehole information and pumping test data, the proposed prediction model is applied iteratively and continuous improvements of the predictions with reduced uncertainties of the media distribution are observed. From the results and the qualitative/quantitative analysis, it is concluded that the proposed model is good for the subsurface prediction improvements where the history data is available as a supportive information. Once the proposed model be a matured technique, it is believed that the model can be applied to many groundwater, geothermal, gas and oil problems with conventional fluid flow simulators. However, the overall development is still in its preliminary step and further considerations needs to be incorporated to be a viable and practical prediction technique including multi-dimensional verifications, global optimization, etc. which have not been resolved in the present study.
When a warm well located downgradient is captured by cold thermal plume originated from an upgradient cold well, the warm thermal plume is pushed further downgradient in the direction of groundwater flow. If groundwater flow direction is parallel to an aquifer thermal energy storage (ATES), the warm well can no longer be utilized as a heat source during the winter season because of the reduced heat capacity of the warm groundwater. It has been found that when the specific discharge is increased by $1{\times}10^{-7}m/s$ in this situation, the performance of ATES is decreased by approximately 2.9% in the warm thermal plume, and approximately 6.5% in the cold thermal plume. An increase of the specific discharge in a permeable hydrogeothermal system with a relatively large hydraulic gradient creates serious thermal interferences between warm and cold thermal plumes. Therefore, an area comprising a permeable aquifer system with large hydraulic gradient should not be used for ATES site. In case of ATES located perpendicular to groundwater flow, when the specific discharge is increased by $1{\times}10^{-7}m/s$ in the warm thermal plume, the performance of ATES is decreased by about 2.5%. This is 13.8% less reduced performance than the parallel case, indicating that an increase of groundwater flow tends to decrease the thermal interference between cold and warm wells. The system performance of ATES that is perpendicular to groundwater flow is much better than that of parallel ATES.
