Rheological Characteristics and Debris Flow Simulation of Waste Materials (광산폐석의 유변학적 특성과 토석류 흐름특성 분석)

  • Abandoned mines often cause environmental problems, such as alteration of landscape, metal contamination, and landslides due to a heavy rainfall. Geotechnical and rheological tests were performed on waste materials corrected from Imgi waste rock dump, located in Busan Metropolitan City. Debris flow mobility was examined with the help of 1-D BING model which was often simulated in both subaerial and subaqueous environments. To determine flow curve, we used a vane-penetrated rheometer. The shear stress (${\tau}$)-shear rate (${\dot{\gamma}}$) and viscosity(${\eta}$)-shear rate (${\dot{\gamma}}$) relationships were plotted using a shear stress control mode. Well-known rheological models, such as Bingham, bilinear, Herschel-Bulkley, Power-law, and Papanastasiou concepts, were compared to the rheological data. From the test results, we found that the tested waste materials exhibited a typical shear shinning behavior in ${\tau}$-${\dot{\gamma}}$ and and ${\eta}$-${\dot{\gamma}}$ plots, but the Bingham behavior is often observed when the water contents increased. The test results show that experimental data are in good agreement with rheological models in the post-failure stage during shearing. Based on the rheological properties (i.e., Bingham yield stress and viscosity as a function of the volumetric concentration of sediment) of waste materials, initial flowing shape (5 m, 10 m, and 15 m) and yield stress (100 Pa, 200 Pa, 300 Pa, and 500 Pa) were input to simulate the debris flow motion. As a result, the runout distance and front velocity of debris flow are in inverse propositional to yield stress. In particular, when the yield stress is less than 500 Pa, most of failed masses can flow into the stream, resulting in a water contamination.

  • This work carried out to analyze the physicochemical properties and investigate the assessment of heavy metal contamination of stream sediments of the Yudeung and the Gab streams in the Daejeon area. The pH of stream sediments of the Yudeung stream shows the range of weak acid and weak alkaline. Most of stream sediments contain about 80% sand grain and have low water and cation retention capacity. Hence the stream sediments are not suitable fur various plans to grow up. The analysis of heavy metals in the stream sediments shows that the concentration of Pb, Cr and Cd increases from upstream to down stream. It is likely that the trend has a relationship with the water. Contamination of stream water. The authors recommend that clay materials be replenished in the stream sediments to increase the self-purification capacity and to make the suitable condition for growing up of various plants, and that water quality of the stream which can Influence into the contamination of stream sediments be monitored.

  • 차량 운행이 많은 고속도로, 주차장, 교량 등의 불투수 면적에서 발생하는 비점오염 물질은 차량에서 발생하는 배기가스와 연료, 부품 등이 비강우시 노면에 축적된 후 강우시 유출되는 특징을 가진다. 고속도로 휴게소의 경우 넓은 부지에 주차장이 위치하고, 대부분 불투수면으로 설계되었으며 차량이용대수에 따라 수질오염물질, 중금속 등이 축적되어 강우시 초기에 다량의 오염물질이 유출되는 특징을 가진다. 특히, 휴게소 노면 배출지점에서 강우시 약간의 탁수 유입과 함께 유기물, 영양염류의 농도가 다소 높았으며, 중금속은 주로 Pb, Cu, Zn의 농도가 높게 나타나는 것으로 연구 되었다. 본 연구는 고속도로 휴게소에서 발생하는 오염물질의 특성을 파악하기 위해 실시하였다. 휴게소 및 고속도로 인근에서 평시 발생하는 오염원의 차량 기인 여부를 판단하기 위해 비강우시 고속도로 노면 및 휴게소 오염원 배출 지점에서 토사 및 입자 샘플링을 실시하였으며, 이를 통해 입자에 흡착된 중금속 오염도 및 차량기인 여부를 판단하였다. 본 연구를 통해 고속도로 휴게소에서의 초기강우시 오염물질 처리방안 계획 수립시 기초자료로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

  • To investigate the characteristic and the cause of the yellow water zones in the estuary of keum River, physico-chemical measurement and analyses were made on seawater samples collected from 18 stations in May, July, august, October in 1992, and February in 1993 respectively. The yellow water zones were recorded as grade 9 on the forel water color meter and appeared consistently at the stations 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 15 and 17 through out the year. The organically polluted matter gradually increased in the study area. The nutrient concentrations of inner waters of water zones were higher than that of the surrounding waters and were over red tide criteria levels. But abnormal aggregation of phytoplanktons could not occur because of lack of light and high current velocity. In Conclusion, this yellowish colored water zone was caused not by abnormal aggregation of phytoplanktons but by inorganic matters such as sand or soil particles, $85\%$ of which consisted of suspended solids.

Enzymatic Synthesis of Meth.yl Fructoside by Immobilized Invertase (고정화 전화당 효소에 의한 메틸 프룩토시드의 합성)

  • Methyl fructoside was synthesized from sucrose and methanol using an immobilized invertase. The enzyme was covalently bound by glutaraldehyde on porous silica coated with polyethyleneimine to give loading capacity of 120mg of invertase per one gram of dry porous silica and effective activity of 100U per one milligram of bound invertase. Polyethyleneimine coating imparted a hydrophillic character, good activity retention and high loading capacity to the surface of porous silica as well as hydrophillic microenviroment in the vicinity of bound invertase. The immobilized enzyme was formed into an alginate-enclosed silica bead to have enough activity for methyl fructoside synthesis from aqueous methanol-sucrose solution. Using the alginate-enclosed biocatalyst the yield of methyl fructoside was obtained as high as 55.9% from aqueous 30% (v/v) methanol and 0.291mo1/l sucrose with 2U/ml activity at $25^{\circ}C$, pH 4.8.

  • 연안매립 및 신항만 건설, 해안선 정비사업 등과 같은 대규모 공사는 인근 해역에서의 해수유동의 변화와 해수의 혼탁도 증가 및 퇴적물의 침식과 퇴적에 의한 해저 지형의 변형을 초래하고, 이로 인해 기존 항로의 매몰과 해양생물 생태계 변화 등과 같은 문제점을 유발한다는 것은 잘 알려진 사실이다. 특히 한국의 서해연안 대부분과 남해연안 일부에 분포되어 있는 미세-점착성 퇴적물은 사질성 퇴적물과는 달리 퇴적물에서 부유된 토사 입자의 침강 속도가 아주 작아서, 파랑과 조류 등과 같은 해수유동에서 의해 쉽게 이동되어 현저한 해저 지형의 변형을 초래한다.   • Surface soils sampled at several sites in Seoul, Korea were analyzed to determine the concentrarions and distributions of PAHs. Results are as follow; 1) The Bap concentration in soils was found to be the highest in the industrial area (128 ng/g) and lowest in the residential area(19 ng/g). 2) The Py concentration in soils was highest in the tunnel area (1,110 ng/g) and the lowest in the Achasan area(18 ng/g). 3) The BghiP concentration in soils was higher in road (538 ng/g) and tunnel (532 ng/g) areas than in others areas. 4) It was shown that the PAHs concentrations in residential areas were affected by combution of fossil fuel, those in industrial, road, tunnel, terminal and commercial areas were affected by vehicle exhaust.

  • 도시대기중의 분진은 입경 분포에 따라 공기 역학적 직경 2.5$\mu\textrm{m}$를 기준으로 미세 입자(fine particles)와 거대 입자(coarse particles)로 나누어지는 쌍극분포를 보인다. 미세 입자는 주로 화석연료의 연소, 자동차의 배기가스 등과 같은 인위적 발생원에 의한 것이며, 거대입자는 토사의 재 비산, 해염 통과 같은 자연적 발생원에 의한 것이다. 미세 입자는 오염된 도심지역 분진수의 90-99%에 이르는 높은 비율을 보이고 있고, 폐 깊숙히 침투하여 폐 질환을 일으킬 수 있다.   • This study investigates the concentration sudden rise in fine particle according to resuspended dust from paved roads after sudden heavy rain in Busan on August 25, 2015. The localized torrential rainfall in Busan area occurred as tropical airmass flow from the south and polar airmass flow from north merged. Orographic effect of Mt. Geumjeong enforced rainfall and it amounted to maximum 80 mm/hr at Dongrae and Geumjeong region in Busan. This heavy rain induced flood and landslide in Busan and the nearby areas. The sudden heavy rain moved soil and gravel from mountainous region, which deposited on paved roads and near roadside. These matters on road suspended by an automobile transit, and increased fine particle concentration of air. In addition outdoor fine particle of high concentration flowed in indoor by shoes, cloths and air circulation.
