  • This study was to analyze the students' engagement in regular curriculum and extra-curriculum and its effects on learning outcomes in higher education. Students' engagement was analysed by high order learning, reflective and integrative learning, learning strategies, collaborative learning, discussions with diverse others, and high impact activities. To achieve the purpose of this study, 392 students joined in K-NSSE were participated. To analyze the datum, frequency analysis, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and regression analysis were performed using IBM SPSS 25.0 program. The following results were obtained. First, students' engagement was generally very low, especially in high impact activities which has an effect on the students' achievement. And compared to the students' engagement in the college of humanity and social science, the students' engagement in engineering college were very low. Learning outcomes were influenced by the high impact activities, high-order learning, and discussions with diverse others. So to reinforce students' engagement in learning process, this study proposed a curriculum-extracurriculum integrated system. And to improvement students' engagement, teaching and learning support programs including high impact activities. high order learning, and discussions with diverse others were proposed to be developed and operated.

  • The students were instructed to prepare the materials for the reading discussion as they read books by the analytical reading, in order to make them know the efficient method of the reading discussion as activity of after reading. As the results, They understood the plot and substance of the book, comprehend the whole subject and selected the subject of the discussion better after they read books by the analytical reading than after they didn't. But it's not satisfactory to communicate their own ideas mutually during the reading discussion as before.

  • The purpose of this study was to draw social constructive implications for the child protect system(CPS) in Korea. As the value of social constructivism for child protect system, the participation and the negotiation were identified through theoretical research. And this paper examined how the participation and the negotiation were done in other government's child protect policies. In addition, the focus group members were interviewed. 11 child protect practitioners and researchers were interviewed about the problems of child protect system, law and policies, and they discussed how the participation and the negotiation were done in Korean child protect system. The result of the discussion were as follows. The democratic relationship must be reconstructed through the participation and negotiation in CPS, Korea lacks of legal basis to force the abusers to participation. And in our country, negotiation parties for children cannot be recognized. Finally, the amendment of the law and regulations concerned with the child protect system were proposed based on the FGI's discussions.

  • This study started with the awareness of the need to explore various aspects of science education and was conducted according to the necessity of practical research on science cultural activities targeting adults. Accordingly, adults' book discussions of science fiction were selected as research cases, and science-related attitudes in science cultural activities were explored. There are four participants in the study, all of whom have engaged in a book club and have not majored or are working in science disciplines. Three science fictions were selected after establishing specific standards for the selection discussed with participants. For four months, a total of three unstructured book discussions of science fiction, post-interviews for each discussion, and in-depth individual interviews after the end of the entire activity were conducted. Various data such as recorded and transcribed reading discussion discourse, post- and in-depth individual interviews, researchers' observation records, and participants' book journals were collected and analyzed using a continuous comparison method. As a result of the study, as scientific thinking is illustrated in SF, the participants also demonstrated scientific attitudes during their discussions. In addition, the textual feature(storytelling) of science fiction was found to lessen cognitive overload and the burden of understanding science by providing scientific knowledge with context. Finally they demonstrated a shift in attitude toward science, valuing science cultural activities in themselves, rather than simply viewing science as a subject of understanding and learning. The conclusions and meanings of this study based on the above results are presented to enhance a positive attitude toward science for adults even after school education.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of small group discussion and debate emphasizing maker class on elementary school students's science learning motivation and scientific attitude. The conclusion of the study is as follows. First, it was shown that the small group discussion and debate emphasizing maker class had a statistically significant effect on elementary school students's science learning motivation. This is due to the fact that the small group discussion and debate emphasizing maker class stimulates students' interaction, which is why students are more interested in class while solving problems with their peers. Second, it was found that the small group discussion and debate emphasizing maker class had a statistically significant effect on the elementary school students' scientific attitude. This allows students to have enough opportunity to express their opinions through small group discussions and debate, and I think that because they listen to others' opinions when they make new things or make new plans, so they have been able to increase their scientific attitude continuously. Third, based on the analysis of the participant students' opinions on the small group discussion and debate emphasizing maker class, all the participants answered that they were interested in this kind of class and they want to participate in this kind of maker class again. Therefore, it is thought that the small group discussion and debate emphasizing maker class can play a big role in raising the elementary school students's science learning motivation and scientific attitude.

  • The web-based discussion allows learners to participate in the learning actively and positively, and it can provide learners with the learner-oriented active interaction and learning environment. However, the web-based discussion produced communication-oriented learning environment using bulletin board and data directory and researched mainly the state and activation of the discussion, and had less system supporting dynamic discussion process. Even if the discussion made appearance partially and totally as learners' activities at a variety of web-based teaching, specific discussion-based teaching model was not developed. Therefore, a systematic web-based discussion system needs to be developed to activate human interaction and to give shape to the stages and elements of the discussion model. The paper supports dynamic discussion activities and applies Hill's common discussion model describing detailed discussion stages to develop systematic web-based discussion system.

  • In online communities, a large number of participants can exchange their opinion using replies without time and space restrictions. While the online space provides quick and free communication, it also easily triggers unnecessary quarrels and conflicts. The network established on the discussion participants is an important cue to analyze the confrontation and predict serious disputes. In this paper, we present a quantitative measure for polarity observed on the discussion network built from reply exchanges in online communities. The proposed method uses the comment exchange information to establish the user interaction network graph, computes its maximum spanning tree, and then performs vertex coloring to assign two colors to each node in order to divide the discussion participants into two subsets. Using the proportion of the comment exchanges across the partitioned user subsets, we compute the polarity measure, and quantify how discussion participants are bipolarized. Using experimental results, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our method for detecting polarization and show participants of a specific discussion subject tend to be divided into two camps when they debate.
