  • Mongolia's solar-meteorological resources map has been developed using satellite data and reanalysis data. Solar radiation was calculated using solar radiation model, in which the input data were satellite data from SRTM, TERA, AQUA, AURA and MTSAT-1R satellites and the reanalysis data from NCEP/NCAR. The calculated results are validated by the DSWRF (Downward Short-Wave Radiation Flux) from NCEP/NCAR reanalysis. Mongolia is composed of mountainous region in the western area and desert or semi-arid region in middle and southern parts of the country. South-central area comprises inside the continent with a clear day and less rainfall, and irradiation is higher than other regions on the same latitude. The western mountain region is reached a lot of solar energy due to high elevation but the area is covered with snow (high albedo) throughout the year. The snow cover is a cause of false detection from the cloud detection algorithm of satellite data. Eventually clearness index and solar radiation are underestimated. And southern region has high total precipitable water and aerosol optical depth, but high solar radiation reaches the surface as it is located on the relatively lower latitude. When calculated solar radiation is validated by DSWRF from NCEP/NCAR reanalysis, monthly mean solar radiation is 547.59 MJ which is approximately 2.89 MJ higher than DSWRF. The correlation coefficient between calculation and reanalysis data is 0.99 and the RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) is 6.17 MJ. It turned out to be highest correlation (r=0.94) in October, and lowest correlation (r=0.62) in March considering the error of cloud detection with melting and yellow sand.

  • Solar radiation is an important meteorological factor in the agricultural sector. The ground exposed to sunlight is highly influenced by the surrounding terrains especially in South Korea where the topology is complex. The solar radiation on an inclined surface is estimated using a solar irradiance correction factor for the slope of the terrain along with the solar radiation on a horizontal surface. However, such an estimation method assumes that there is no barrier in surroundings, which blocks sunlight from the sky. This would result in errors in estimation of solar radiation because the effect of shading caused by the surrounding terrain has not been taken into account sufficiently. In this study, the shading effect was simulated to obtain the brightness value (BV), which was used as a correction factor. The shaded relief images, which were generated using a 30m-resolution digital elevation model (DEM), were used to derive the BVs. These images were also prepared using the position of the sun and the relief of the terrain as inputs. The gridded data where the variation of direct solar radiation was quantified as brightness were obtained. The value of cells in the gridded data ranged from 0 (the darkest value) to 255 (the brightest value). The BV analysis was performed using meteorological observation data at 22 stations installed in study area. The observed insolation was compared with the BV of each point under clear and cloudless condition. It was found that brightness values were significantly correlated with the solar radiation, which confirmed that shading due to terrain could explain the variation in direct solar radiation. Further studies are needed to accurately estimate detailed solar radiation using shaded relief images and brightness values.

  • Photovoltaic inverters should always track the maximum power of solar cell arrays in operation. Also, they should be irrespective of the maximum power point voltage of a wide range of solar cells in tracking the maximum power point. If the current ripple of solar cells occurs, the function of maximum power point tracking drops, and normal tracking is difficult when solar radiation or the maximum power point changes. To solve this problem, this paper proposed a new maximum power point tracking algorithm with high efficiency and an algorithm to reduce the current ripple of solar cells. According to the results from the test on 4KW grid-connected PV inverter, the efficiency of maximum power point tracking and inverter output and the total harmonic distortion of inverter output current showed 99.97%, 97.5% and 1.05% respectively. So, the inverter showed excellent performance, and made possible stable maximum power point tracking operation when the solar radiation rapidly changed from 100% to 10% and from 10% to 100% for 0.5 seconds.

  • As the maximum power operating point(MPOP) of the Photovoltaic(PV) power systems alters with changing atmospheric conditions, the efficiency of maximum power point tracking(MPPT) is important in PV power systems. Many MPPT techniques have been considered in the past, but techniques using microprocessors with appropriate MPPT algorithms are favored because of their flexibility and compatibility with different PV arrays. In this paper, the author analyzes and studies two MPPT algorithms, which is named P&O(Perturbation and Observation) and IncCond(Incremental Conductance). Also, the author proposes Hysterisis-band alteration algorithm. To show the excellency of new Hysterisis-band alteration, the author suggests three references; 1) Comparing three MPPT algorithms in the steady-state condition, 2) Representing irradiation variation rapidly, 3) Showing MPPT efficiency. MPPT simulation and experiment perform in the boost converter.

  • This study proposed a model that can track MPP faster than the existing MPPT algorithm using the particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO). The proposed model highly sets the acceleration constants of gbest and pbest in the PSO algorithm to quickly track the MPP point and eliminates the power instability problem. In addition, this algorithm was re-executed by detecting the change in power of the solar panel according to the rapid change in solar radiation. As a result of the experiment, MPP time was 0.03 seconds and power was 131.65 for 691.5 W/m2, and MPP was tracked at higher power and speed than the existing P&O and INC algorithms. The proposed model can be applied when a change in the amount of power is detected by partial shading in a Photovoltaic power plant with Photovoltaic connected in parallel. In order to improve the MPPT algorithm, this study needs a comparative study on optimization algorithms such as moth flame optimization (MFO) and whale optimization algorithm (WOA).

  • In this study, the PV output and module temperature values were predicted using the Meteorological Agency data and compared with actual data, weather, solar radiation, ambient temperature, and wind speed. The forecast accuracy by weather was the lowest in the data on a clear day, which had the most data of the day when it was snowing or the sun was hit at dawn. The predicted accuracy of the module temperature and the amount of power generation according to the amount of insolation decreased as the amount of insolation increased, and the predicted accuracy according to the ambient temperature decreased as the module temperature increased as the ambient temperature increased and the amount of power generated lowered the ambient temperature. As for wind speed, the predicted accuracy decreased as the wind speed increased for both module temperature and power generation, but it was difficult to define the correlation because wind speed was insignificant than the influence of other weather conditions.

  • Solar radiation under a clear sky is a important factor in the process by which meteorological satellite images are converted into solar radiation maps, and the quality of estimations depends on the accuracy of clear sky models. Therefore, it is important to select models appropriate to the purpose of the study and the study area. In this instance, complex models were applied using Linke turbidity, including ESRA, Dumortier, and MODTRAN, in addition to simple models such as Bourges and PdBV, which consider only the solar elevation angles. The presence of cloud was identified using the Communication, Ocean, and Meteorological Satellite and the Meteorological imager (COMS MI), and reference data were then selected. In order to calculate the accuracy of the clear sky models, the concepts of RMSE and MBE were applied. The results show that Bourges and PdBV produced low RMSE values, while PdBV had relatively steady RMSE values. Also, simple models tend to underestimate global solar irradiation during spring and early summer. Conversely, in the winter season, complex methods often overestimate irradiation. In future work, the cause of overestimation and other factors will be analyzed and the clear sky models will be adjusted in order to make them suitable for the Korean Peninsula.

  • In this paper proposes a novel tacking algorithm regarding the power loss when operating a tracking system for a rapidly changing insolation to improve the power of PV hacking system. The tracking system of sensor method used in a conventional PV power station is unable to exactly track a sun position when lacking in the intensity of radiation and has the problem is malfunction of tracking system by a rapidly changing climatic. The tracking system of program method spends too much energy on the unnecessary operation of tracking system because that is unable to adapt itself to a outside factor of climatic environment. In case of tracking an azimuth and altitude of the sun in realtime, therefore, the actual PV power is less increasing than the power of tracking system fixed a specific position. To reduce the power loss, this pap proposes a novel control algorithm of the tracking system. Also, this paper is analyzed efficiency of traditional solar tracking method and proposed method, prove validity of proposed algorithm through demonstrable study.

  • Global warming and heat island make the outdoor air temperature ascend. Tall office buildings are covered with glass window facades as a design aspect and the portion of window area to facade area is increasing. Hence, cooling load for solar radiation passing through glass window is rising. Cooling air to a certain room is supplied equally despite the face of the room in most office buildings. Especially, the west part of the office cannot maintain the required temperature that occupant needs because of the solar heat coming through windows.?In this study, we projected the water spray system to reduce the solar heat transfer and to reflect the solar ray through windows. We perform the experiments to evaluate the performance of the solar heat protection devices. We measured the room temperature of two separated office rooms for solar heat control devices. The investigation's results show that the water spray system is sufficient to the coated glass and the venetian blinds for the decrease of the solar heat inflow.
