  • In order to improve a trip pattern in Mt. Halla climbing only to a summit, two trip programs with nature interpretation have been developed using the geomorphic characteristics of Mt. Halla which are distinct from those of mountains in the Korean peninsula. It also aims to help conservation of natural environment of Mt. Halla and to enhance the visitor satisfaction in Mt. Halla. The subalpine trip program is carried out on a 1.5 km-long trail between Wissaeoreum Hut and Janggumokoreum. Program participants are able to learn expertise about, and understand vulnerability of, a subalpine ecosystem, Consequently, the program can obtain an educational attainment getting them to recognize the necessity of preserving the subalpine zone of Mt. Halla as an important natural resource. The mountain river trip program is performed on a 1.5 km-long reach of Byeongmun River between Gwaneumsa trailhead and a gorge upstream of Gurin Cave. The program is capable of exhibiting effectively the river characteristics of Jeju Island using the geomorphic and hydrologic properties of Byeongmun River which differ from those of rivers in the Korean peninsula. Since the subalpine grassland and ephemeral stream of Mt. Halla are the visiting places which are rarely experienced in the Korean peninsula, the program participants can understand the regionality of Jeju Island as well as Mt. Halla through trip activities.

  • This study tried to estimate the concentration indices of 15 forested national parks using Gini coefficient and Lorenz curve which can be measure the degree of inequality. The concentration indices were estimated by two parts which are yearly index for the periods of 1997-2005 and travel origin area(city or province) distribution index each national park. The empirical results were as follows: first, yearly Gini coefficients showed severe inequality. Particularly, 2004 and 2005 Gini coefficients were .453 and .446. which are intensive inequality compared with other years. Second, in travel origin area distribution each national park, Gini coefficients of Bukhansan and Kyeryungsan national park were .916 and .855 which are the great inequality compared with other national parks. The other hand, Gini coefficients of Dukyusan and Byunsanbando national parks were .508 and .628 which are the lowest inequality. The national park policy manager should find out the factors of concentration and deconcentration each year and national park and decided the visitor distribution policy which visitor size and scope for balancing the natural resources use.

It's time for cultural consents to be obtained with locality and globality. And need to produce our own unique contents, glocal cultural contents. In this study, the establishment of trail path of Jeoji Oreum in relation to the Dang in the Jeju Island was investigated. By linking the Dangsan forest to the Jeoji Oreum trail path, it enables the path to contact with traditional cultural landscape. Rural villages in Jeju with the Oreum and Dang are expected to get an international attention as to have traditional cultural landscapes of Korea. It needs to be managed to retain their original form and in connection with the trail path.

  • The increased person interests in health in accordance with improved living standards result in the booming population who enjoy mountain climbing. Although there are more climbers than ever, most existing mountain paths are those which have been made naturally by people utilizing them to get to the peak and therefore cannot meet the various needs of emerging mountain climbers. Thus, this study that establish a data using numerical map and TotalStation aimed to provide them with beneficial information on mountain paths, analyzing each path using GIS. The subjects of this study are limited to Kum-Am which is in Kyungnam province, Korea. According to out research, proper slopes for the majority of mountain climbers, mostly in their from 30s to 50s, are turned out to be HG1 and JG1-JG2-JG3.

  • This study was conducted on the visitors regarding their usage and evaluation state of the interpretive media which is utilized as a self-guide environment interpretation for the purpose of accumulating basic data for the park management. A questionnaire survey was chosen and the 275 valid samples among them were analyzed. The socioeconomic and behavioral characteristics of the visitors turned out to be similar with the results from another visitor survey in the same site. Among those who used the interpretive media, the largest proportion(77%) used the information board resources of the park; the usage rate of interpretive labels of woody plants, interpretive signs of cultural assets, and LED signs were shown to be relatively high. The usage of park brochures, park web sites, visitor center exhibits, and bulletin boards were less than 40% each. Visitors were asked to evaluate the importance and performance of the nine interpretive medias using a Likert Scale whose value ranges from one to five. The result recorded averaged above 4, which proved that the respondents were perceiving the importance of all forms of interpretive media greatly. The performance of interpretive media was also evaluated as affirmative, except the visitor center exhibits.

  • The purpose of this research was to develop a web based visitor utilization analysis program for a more structured national park visitor management. Rather than employing the current human resources to understand and manage the visitor utilization, the database could classify and analyze information hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually etc, and use entrance/exit information to understand visitor usage period. Also with a web based park usage analysis program, visitor monitoring could be done without any limitation in regards to time and space. The visitor use analysis program developed by this research will not only achieve a more structured and efficient visitor management, but also will provide basic information to make park management decisions.
