A compressor Performance Prediction Method for Analyzing the Off-Design Effect of the Gas Turbine Cycle in IGCC Power Plant (IGCC 발전소용 가스터빈 사이클 탈설계점효과 분석을 위한 압축기 성능예측 방법)

  • 기존의 천연가스 가스터빈 시스템을 IGCC 발전소에 적용함에 있어 야기되는 탈설계점효과를 고려할 수 있는 압축기 성능곡선의 예측방법을 제안하였다. 압축기 성능해석방법으로는 익렬요소방법에 전압력손실, 유동편차각 모델들을 결합하여 사용하였으며, 본 방법에 의한 예측결과와 실제 압축기 성능실험결과를 비교하였다. 예측결과가 다양한 압축기 운전조건에 대해 시험결과와 비교적 잘 일치하였으며, 이를 통해 본 예측방법이 IGCC 공정설계 및 성능평가시 가스터빈 탈설계점 효과를 분석할 수 있는 기본 모듈로 사용될 수 있을 것이다.

  • 우리나라 주요 수자원인 댐 저수지는 여름철 성층현상으로 인해 많은 수질문제가 발생하여 산기식 수중폭기장치를 설치하고 있다. 그러나 산기식 수중폭기장치의 설계인자들은 대부분 lab-scale의 실험연구를 통해 검토되고 설계에 반영되고 있어 실제 댐 저수지에 적용하기 위해서는 현장적용성을 고려하여 개선될 필요가 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 실제 댐 저수지의 현장조건을 고려하여 CFD 모의실험을 통해 산기식 수중폭기장치의 설계인자인 무차원변수 DN (Destratification Number)과 탈성층 영향반경 및 효율을 검토하였다. 그 결과 현장조건에서의 DN값은 lab-scale 실험조건보다 더 넓은 범위를 가지며, 단위수심당 탈성층 영향반경은 DN값이 증가할수록 감소하는 것으로 분석되었다. 또한 탈성층 효율은 DN값이 증가할수록 선형적으로 증가하다가 증가율이 감소하면서 일정해지는 것으로 분석되었다.

  • 양흡입 펌프 회전차 내부 유동특성을 수치적으로 고찰하였다. 수치계산은 설계점과 2개의 탈설계점에서 이루어졌으며, Patankar에 의해 제시된 SIMPLE 알고리즘을 이용하였다. 설계점에서는 양 회전차 채널 내부에서 대칭 형상을 갖는 이차유동 특성을 발견하였지만, 탈설계점에서는 비대칭 유동특성을 발견하였다. 수치해석 결과로는 유량감소에 따라 양흡입 펌프 회전차 채널내부의 이차유동 특성이 달라진다는 사실을 고찰하였다. 또한 양흡입 펌프 회전차 단면에는 모퉁이 와류가 존재함을 알 수 있었다.

  • In this work, a steady-state performance modeling and off-design performance analysis of the 2-spool separate jet turbofan engine named BR715-56 which is a power plant for the narrow body commercial aircraft is carried out for engine performance behaviors investigation and condition monitoring using a commercial code MATLAB/SIMULINK. Firstly, the engine component maps of fan, high pressure compressor, high pressure turbine and low pressure turbine are generated from similar component maps using the scaling method, and then the off-design performance simulation model is constructed by the mass flow matching and the work matching between components. The model is developed using SIMULINK, which has advantages of easy steady-stare and dynamic modelling and user friendly interface function. It is found that the off-design performance analysis results using the proposed model are well agreed with the performance analysis results by GASTURB at various operating conditions.

  • In this study, a program for the off-design performance prediction of multi-stage axial-compressors is developed based on stage-stacking method. To account for the increased losses at off-design conditions, generalized performance curve is applied. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of the choice of generalized performance curve and stator exit angle. For this purpose, we tested various generalized performance curves and stator exit angles. In conclusion, Muir's pressure coefficient curve gives a good prediction results regardless of the efficiency curve for a low-stage compressors. On the other hand, for high-stage compressors, The combination of Muir's pressure coefficient curve and Stone's efficiency curve gives a optimistic results. Stator exit angle has a small effect on overall performance curve.

  • Micro gas turbines are designed with low turbine inlet temperature and pressure ratio. To overcome the efficiency defect of the simple cycle, adoption of the recuperator is an inevitable choice. In addition to the design performance, we should also pay attention to the off-design performance of gas turbines since they usually operate at part-load conditions lot a considerable amount of their lifetime. This study analyzes off-design performance characteristics of micro gas turbines and addresses the importance of the recuperation process doting the part load operation. Comparative analyses have been performed to evaluate the part load performance differences among various design and operating options : simple vs recuperative cycles, single vs two shaft configurations, various operating strategies for the single shaft configuration, and current vs advanced engines. Major finding is that maintaining high turbine exhaust temperature is crucial for efficient operation of micro gas turbines.

  • Slip factor is defined as an empirical factor being multiplied to theoretical energy transfer for the estimation of real work input of a centrifugal compressor. Researchers have tried to develop a simple empirical model, for a century, to predict a slip factor. However most these models were developed on the condition of design point assuming inviscid flow. So these models often fail to predict a correct slip factor at off-design condition. In this study, we summarized various slip factor models and compared these models with experimental and numerical data at off-design condition. As a result of this study, Wiesner's and Paeng and Chung's models are applicable for radial impeller, but all the models are not suitable for backswept impeller. Finally, the essential avenues for future study is discussed.

  • Design and off-design program is set up to analyze the performance of a plate heat exchanger. The program is verified by comparing the results with the experiment. The comparison shows that the predicted overall heat transfer coefficients are in good agreement with the measurements. Also the off-design performance according to the variations of inlet water temperature, flow rate, and the number of plates is analyzed to study the performance characteristic of a plate heat exchanger.

  • The effect of built-in volume ratio of expander on the performance of a two-loop Rankine cycle system for engine waste heat recovery of vehicle has been investigated. In the case of positive displacement expander in the various operating condition of the vehicle, it can operate in both under-expansion and over-expansion conditions. Therefore, the analysis of off-design performance for the expander is very important. Furthermore, the volume and weight of the expander as well as the efficiency must be considered in the optimization of the expander. This study shows that the built-in volume ratio of expander causing under-expansion at a target condition is more desirable considering the off-design performance and size of the expander, based on the simple modeling of off-design operation of the expander.
