  • As awareness of the problem of global warming emerges around the world, the role of carbon sinks in settlement is increasingly emphasized to achieve carbon neutrality in urban areas. In order to manage carbon sinks in settlement, it is necessary to identify the current status of carbon sinks. Identifying the status of carbon sinks requires a lot of manpower and time and a corresponding budget. Therefore, in this study, a map predicting the location of trees was created using already established tree location information and Sentinel-2 satellite images targeting Seoul. To this end, after constructing a tree presence/absence dataset, structured data was generated using 16 types of vegetation indices information constructed from satellite images. After learning this by applying the Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) model, a tree prediction map was created. Afterward, the correlation between independent and dependent variables was investigated in model learning using the Shapely value of Shapley Additive exPlanations(SHAP). A comparative analysis was performed between maps produced for local parts of Seoul and sub-categorized land cover maps. In the case of the tree prediction model produced in this study, it was confirmed that even hard-to-detect street trees around the main street were predicted as trees.

  • Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum M. cv. ‘Momotarou’) and hot pepper seedlings (Capsicum annuum L. cv. 'Nockkwang')were grown under the 24h photopeliod (12 hrs light period: 12 hrs dark period) and 6 h photoperiod (3 hrs light period: 3hrs dark period). As a result of this experiment, the following details were observed. Plant height, leaf area, total dry weight, and leaf chlorophyll content decreased in case of tomato seedlings when they were given 6 h photoperiod. But the same effect was not observed in case of hot pepper seedlings. The photoperiod, however, did not produce any significant effect on the uptake of N, P, K, Mg and Ca ions in their nutrient solutions with the exception of their Fe. On thc 10th day of treatment, leaf chlorosis started to become visible in tomato seedlings and at the same time the uptake of Fe went down when the 6h photoperiod was applied to both tomato and hot pepper scedlings. In addition to this phenomenon, the sucrose content in leaf increased in case of tomato plants which were treated with 6 h photoperiod; on the other hand, their glucose content was observed to have decreased.

  • In this study, the moisture absorption behaviors of the CNT reinforced unsaturated polyester composites were investigated along with exposure temperature and time. The tensile properties of the specimens were evaluated to identify the effect of absorbed moisture on the mechanical properties. The exposure temperatures of $25^{\circ}C$ and $75^{\circ}C$ were considered and the exposure time up to 600 hours was applied. According to the results, moisture absorption rate was increased as CNT content and exposure temperature were increased. The rate of decrease in tensile strength of the CNT reinforced unsaturated polyester composites was reduced due to the reinforcing effect of CNT compared to the unsaturated polyester resin.

  • In order to elucidate the effect of alkali promoter on chemisorption of carbon monoxide on silica supported transition metal catalysts we have investigated the infrared spectra for carbon monoxide chemisorbed on silica supported nickel with and without potassium coating within the frequency range of 1800 ~ 2100cm$^{-1}$ at various nickel concentrations and CO pressures. For the system without potassium coating the IR band intensities are found to greatly depend on the nickel conwgfra concentration although the band positions are scarcely affected. The band positions are nearly coincident with those reported by other people, but we have clarified that the 2057cm$^{-1}$ band arises from Ni(CO)$_4$ molecules physisorbed on silicagel. Besides this, the effect of temperature on CO chemisorption has also been investigated. On coating with potassium we have found that all the bands observed for the system without potassium coating suffer red shifts by 2 ~ 10cm$^{-1}$ and the formation of Ni(CO)$_4$ is inhibited. Furthermore, we have recognized that on the nickel surface with potassium coating a disproportionation may occur to yield carbon dioxide molecules.

  • Amounts of CO₂ fixed by net primary production and released by soil respiration were determined on big-cone pine plantation. Net primary production, which was determined by allometric method, was converted into CO₂. CO₂ evolution in forest ecosystems are mainly through soil and root respiration. In order to separate root respiration from soil respiration, root-free sites were made in stand. Litter removal sites were prepared to estimate CO₂ evolution through litter layer. Respiration was measured at every two weeks intervals from April 2001 through April 2002, and soil temperature and soil moisture were measured at the same time. Net primary production of this big-cone pine plantation was 25.7 t·ha/sup -1/·yr/sup -1/. The amount of CO₂ fixed by this plantation was 42.5 t CO₂·ha/sup -1/·yr/sup -1/, The amount of CO₂ released by soil respiration was 5.0 t CO₂·ha/sup -1/·yr/sup -1/. The relative contribution of root respiration and litter layer respiration to total respiration was 46% and 32%, respectively. Net amount of fixed CO₂ was 37.5 t CO₂·ha/sup -1/·yr/sup -1/ in this big-cone pine plantation. From this result, this big-cone pine plantation play a carbon sink source from the atmosphere.

  • Wood store carbon that the forest absorbed until burned or decomposed over a long period. Such materials are most used in houses except in paper and pulp, and the use of wood in houses play an important role in reducing green-house gases. Therefore, we estimated the amount of carbon stocks in Korean houses, and analyzed how much contribution such stocks offers to green-house gas reduction. As the result, the carbon stocks amount of the wood products in Korean houses was 28.4 million $tCO_2$, which is 4.6% of the total annual green-house gas emission in Korea (620 million $tCO_2$ e), and 77.4% of forest sinks (LULUCF). Even though few wooden houses which use most wood in housing exist in Korea, the carbon stocks of wood products in houses in 2010 increased to 4.1 times that in 1975 (21.4 million $tCO_2$) because the carbon stocks increased due to apartment construction, which hit its stride from the last 1980's.

  • The heterogeneous rate constants for the electrochemical reduction by $trans-[Co(en)_2X_2](ClO_4)_n$(where X is cyanide, nitrite, ammonia, and isothiocyanate) at mercury and glassy carbon electrode were investigated by cyclic voltammetry, DC polarography, and by using rotating disk electrode. The good linear relationship was obtained between the activation energy of reduction and absorption wave number of complexes on glassy carbon electrode. At mercury electrode, $NO_2^-$ ligated complex showed the large deviation from the linear relationship. The difference in the value of rate constants for $NO_2^-$ ligated complex between mercury and glassy carbon electrode was about three order of magnitude which was much larger than the other complexes. It was suggested that $NO_^-$ ligated complex was reduced by inner-sphere mechanism on mercury electrode from the larger value of activation energy and entropy on mercury than carbon electrode.

  • Diverse improvement projects such as replacing street lamps with LED, street trees, etc are currently in progress in Korea to reduce greenhouse gas so as to cope with change in climate. However, the effect of climate change policy is not exactly analyzed, because exhaust quantity and absorption quantity of greenhouse gas of the target street lamp and street trees are not arranged as information. Thus, this study studied the method to systematically manage low carbon related information of urban facilities by using GIS. It was found that low carbon information of the urban facilities is necessary to exactly analyze effect of climate change policy and the method to calculate carbon exhaust quantity and absorption quantity of each facilities should be established to build exact low carbon information of urban facilities. Further, it was found that the visualization of information related to low carbon of street lamp and street trees by using GIS easily and visually grasps and systematically controls the effect of policy coping with change in climate than the existing numeral data of exhaust quantity and absorption quantity of greenhouse gas.

  • Plasma-spraying was conducted to produced the microwave absorbing surface films on the alumi-num-alloy used for the fuselage to protect the aircraft against the RADAR detction. The surface films were produced by plasma-splaying the mecharucally mixed composite powders of the silicon carblde and Ni-Zn ferrite. This M /W absorbers were designed experimentally and fabricated trialty, as a result of which the rolative frequency bandwidth of 7.6 to 8.4% were obtained under the tolerance limits of the re-flection coefficients lower than -6dB(absorption ratio 75%), and the maximum absorption thickness becomes 0.5 to 0.5.imm, which Is much thinner than that of the conventional ones.

  • The study on the nitrogen adsorption, surface properties and water adsorption capacity of the carbonaceous desiccants derived from phenolic resin was carried out. In the nitrogen adsorption study on the carbonaceous desiccants, Type II isotherm for each sample was obtained. Furthermore, the adsorbed volume decrease with water washing of the desiccant. The $S_{BET}$ of the carbonaceous desiccants was $648.7m^2/g$ before washing and $189.3m^2/g$ after washing, respectively. The morphology of needlelike formation before washing and spherical particle after washing with water were observed from SEM micrographs. Finally, from the water adsorption effects, the percentage of the water loading capacity was 25-63%, and the capacity was good at relatively low humidity.
